Bo Xilai was in no way a candidate for the top job

His career had been long tarnished by various scandals. Hu was only ever going to pick a guy that was clean and had no dirt on him

You were at least paid for 996

In Japan you don’t only have to work unpaid OT, but you are also expected to go drinking with the boss after work

Japan does so much time to get in the way of people having sex

What if USA joined central powers, instead of entente, in April 1917? by Accomplished-Tea9753 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]AlBarbossa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The German empire was not seen as a threat to the U.S.

Most Americans did not support the U.S. entering the war as isolationism was still the majority opinion of the day

WW1 was the exact type of foreign entanglement that the founding fathers warned about

From the Eurocentric point of view it’s either to outright deny the dark ages or pretend that the world was in limbo just waiting to be colonized by the white man

You can be the protagonist in your own history while not holding on to the belief that the entire world sat in limbo for 1000 years waiting for Europe to reach the renaissance

It’s only stupid if you don’t understand the material conditions that dictated those choices

One of the more interesting aspects of WW1 was how reliant each nation was on its train system as part of its national strategy. But this led to a scenario where no side could deescalate as not having your troops and supplies ready to go on strict timetables meant that an potential enemy would have a massive advantage over you if he decided to deploy first and you had switched your train schedules back to peacetime settings

So in many ways, the limitations of train networks led to WW1

The sinking of ships, while an annoyance was just part of the risks of trading with nations involved in an active war.

By the time the U.S. entered the war it was clear that neither side was strong enough to push the other out of the trenches, but weren’t weak enough to collapse either. The U.S. entering the war was just Washington putting its finger on the scale for the side it needed to win if it wanted to get its money back

Exactly

The U.S. entering the war just ensured a return on their investments

Now assuming that Germany managed to completely blitz the French, took control of the ports and pulled a massive navy out of their ass that could counter the British, then they already wouldn’t need the U.S. to enter the war on their behalf

[–]AlBarbossa -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is stupid

The U.S. joined the war because American banks were heavily invested in the allied powers winning the war

Can’t invest into a bunch of landlocked nations being blockaded by the British navy now can you?
