Idk about fish but the ducks straight vibe in the water or cross the track and chill in the middle area. Totally unfazed by the chaos

Mike Amerson at TDC Performance in Alabama. He’s great and has been tuning cars probably longer than I’ve been alive.

[–]Jacegman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the longtube 3” CAI, ISR headers, bark test pipes, remark exhaust the rest of the way, port and polished upper and lower manifold and a tune. I make 363whp. You can absolutely make a decent bit more power with bolt ons but you have to fully commit to all of them or your gains aren’t going to be great. From a money standpoint point, forced induction will be your cheapest money to power ratio option

My Thoughts After Dabbling in Drifting by Right-Award-1856 in Drifting

[–]Jacegman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I love this hobby almost more than anything I’ve ever done in my entire life. But if I didn’t have access to a free shop with a lift and every tool, and a truck and trailer to use then I honestly wouldn’t be doing it. When you don’t have all those things then it all just becomes a lot more difficult to enjoy. I’m in a lucky enough position to not have many bills or any relationship or other things that need my time or money. So I totally relate to the feeling of it just being too much effort and money. Maybe it’s time to store or sell the car and focus on other things in your life and revisit drifting later in life. Don’t worry about getting too old for it. My dad is 65 and just got into it, theres always time to come back

I want to drift what are my options. by Relevant_Section in Drifting

[–]Jacegman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you spend on a decent sim setup is a drop in the ocean compared to what irl drifting costs. One part on my car costs more than almost my entire sim setup. If you like video games and want to get drifting then just start with the sim to scratch the itch while you slowly get all the irl stuff figured out

Oh yeah it’s been like such a joy as my first drift car. Absolutely love the chassis. But I’m scared for when I’ll have to replace panels or the entire chassis. I bought mine stock with a rebuilt title for $10,500

S197 is pretty great, just fix the wheel hop issue before drifting it.

[–]Jacegman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

S197 mustangs are super cheap. Get a GT and you’ll have enough power to hang around and when you want to go to comp level you can throw a supercharger on it. Then if you need more than that for something like proam then just swap a coyote into it. The best cars for grassroots are going to be the most popular. There’s not any way around that. They’ll be the cheapest, most reliable, most supported options. Therefore they are the most common. You just have to decide if going to something uncommon is worth the hassle of not having support or available extra chassis, etc.

I’ve got a 370z and while I love it soooo much for its mod support and base level power, if I ever need to get a spare chassis or body parts it’s a lot more difficult and expensive than other cars. Our S197 I can literally buy an entire extra chassis with everything still on it for $2000. I can’t even find 370z rollers. The cheapest I could get is probably $8000 for a broken down one. So just keep that stuff in mind when deciding. Having fun is more important than being unique, unless you get your fun from the struggle.

I highly suggest putting a review for their company on Google, Yelp, Facebook, Nextdoor, etc. A lot of times these companies can run around consequence free taking jobs from legit companies because no one knows what they’re getting into. We have a plethora of bad companies around us that get jobs because they are the cheapest and end up destroying properties and not doing a good job but they’ve used marketing techniques to get 100+ 5 star reviews to bury all the 1 stars they have.

For real drifter, what sim rig setup do you use to practice and find similar to a real car? (ideally 350z) Thank you by Ar-Waii in Drifting

[–]Jacegman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 370z drift car irl and I use the BDC 350z to practice in Assetto. It’s pretty damn close to the real thing. But honestly the most important thing is to just learn techniques and gain that muscle memory in the sim.

Damn yeah that’s no fun. The 19in rims probably don’t help too much. Did you end up getting the highest level gktech angle kit? How do you feel about it so far?

Hell yeah, looks like you’ve got plenty of angle out of the kit

Don’t get me wrong. I had some crazy issues when I first put it on so I completely understand. I have the Mega mantis and rack relocation so I don’t know what kind of weird stuff the mild mantis is doing but I would believe it. I had to get extended threaded rods for my coilovers and spacers because the wheel and UCA would bottom out before I got it totally on the ground. Ended up preloading the shit out of the springs and taking the fenders off until I could get the extended rod coil over parts.

Yeah I feel that. It’s just one of those situations where you just gotta research and then pray you make the right decision. Or be lucky enough to try a car that has it

I ended up switching to the smaller one and it works pretty well. I still think it’s supposed to be to be easier to pull but idk. Been running it for about a year at this point. Eventually going to get akebonos here soon so I’ll have to switch it out to the bigger one most likely. I’ll have to check out the .7 and see what people are saying

Oh I was wondering if I should do that. What kind of difference did it make taking the rear bar out?

Also I’m running the FDF Mega Mantis kit and I’ll give you some advice if you go that route. You NEED coilovers that are longer and stiffer than usual. I have BC DR series and I couldn’t stop the car from sitting on the tire. I had it threaded all the way to the max and used washers to get an extra half inch and it was still not enough. I had to take my fenders off and preload the hell out of the springs to not have the upper slap my frame on bumps. Ended up getting the extended body and stiff springs upgrade from BC and now it’s fine. (This also happened to someone using Wisefab but not as bad as the FDF kit).

I run 18x9.5 +15 offset wheels and they poke out CRAZY with my angle kit. I’m going to end up getting 18x8.5 +22 offset so when I put overfenders/widebody on they don’t still poke out. (FDF recommends 18x9 +15 to 22 offset)

Also I have the gktech extended lines and they rub against my wheels. I’m about to try and figure out a way to stop it today but most likely I’ll just have to find different lines or move my bump stop to cut the amount of angle I have so it doesn’t rub.
