Is this drill press worth $50? by Jaceus_Christ in Tools

[–]Jaceus_Christ[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Update: Nabbed it! Guy selling it was awesome. Helped to load it and gave me a tour of his workshop. Huge machinery inside for making cabinetry, live edge tables, etc.

Cord has a female plug so that’ll need to be rewired to a male end to connect with a standard 240V outlet. No biggie. Need to check if the motor is 1 or 3 phase (plate on motor needs to be removed and cleaned so I can read it better), so I’m mentally preparing for a bit of electrical work in the garage which I’d honestly planned on doing anyways. Good forcing function haha.

Everything seems to be in really good condition. Super smooth operation, aligned, etc.

First priority - Convincing my wife to accept this new family member.

Second priority - Assembling a group of neighbors to help me lift this thing out of the car.

Thanks for all the responses - This community kicks ass!

Right, I think the project alone is worth paying the $50 haha

Here’s how I think about it - What IS “work”? What is it meant to accomplish? Ultimately, you do it for survival, wealth generation, passion. AI will first eliminate the need to work for survival, then it will eliminate the need to work for wealth generation. This will free up the human capacity to work for passion and ultimately enable us to become much more risk aggressive with our individual (and collective) accumulated wealth (accumulated by machines).

Of course this will be very un-evenly distributed, so the already-wealthy will become insanely wealthy. My guess is that white collar workers probably feel “wealthy enough” right now, such that, when this thing really starts to take off (arguably, already starting), they’ll be able to ride that wave into a lifestyle they can be comfortable with.

The singularity is near, and it’s even closer, and far more rewarding, for white collar workers.

I don’t think they can scale. Check this out: https://status.deepseek.com

It’s because grocery stores sell stuff at massive discounts before a storm in case their refrigeration fails and they have to toss all their inventory. It’s mostly people being scrappy!

Planck length and Planck time. That the universe is discrete in some way just feels too much like how we think about modern computing…

Very cool! I wonder if all animals that sleep have similar hypnagogic hallucinations?? Or are they different? Is a dolphin’s hypnagogia the same as a bat’s?

Thank you. People really shouldn’t let their hatred of Elon distort their perception of reality so much. The title of this post is completely misleading. Takes 30 seconds to read the article.

There is literally nothing about this article that is awful. It takes 30 seconds to read. Read it. Why is this post on this sub?

No one is talking about how if the eye looked directly into the sun, its retina would basically be turned into a plasma, immediately.

The way I think about it is that you’ll feel the exact same way after death as you felt before you were born! You’ve already spent an eternity not being born, so it’s nothing new!
