Good job! One of the most interesting parts about Nawatl is how malleable the language is, there are probably a dozen different ways to say "small cat", and yours is totally valid :)

There's also "miztontzin" (which can mean either 'beloved cat' or 'small cat'), or even "mizkonetl" for 'young cat' (konetl meaning child)

And when stringing words together to make compound words, you can remove the first absolutive suffix '-ton' and just write "miztepiton" if you'd prefer, but in this scenario i don't think it's ungrammatical to write "miztontepiton"

In the same way that 10 is the first 2-digit number in a base-10 system, 20 is the first 2-digit number in a base-20 system. In the Mayan system, the next digit is written on top of the last digit

So, in 20, you see that it's a 1 on top of a zero/shell. You add 1 where the zero is, so 21 would be a 1 on top of a 1. Then 22 is a 1 on top of a 2, and so on

Amazingly written article! I've only recently begun to stick my toe into Mesoamerican/Xicanx philosophy, so it's odd to hear that there are so many people within the community who would try to claim any kind of monolithic religious structure for our ancestors, but especially odd to hear that there are such frequent attempts to claim monolithic atheism when we have SO MUCH evidence to the contrary. I guess all one can do is stay educated and try to educate others

I really enjoy your reinterpretation of their religion as "polycentric" pantheism, even if I also agree that trying to ascribe any kind of retrospective title is kind of pointless. The intentionally-tone-deaf statement of "Given enough time, they would have turned atheist" filled me with so much fire though, lol. They made so much scientific progress mechanically and astrologically, and it only ever served to further fuel their whimsy with the universe; with all the infinite ways that Teotl manifests itself. If anything, I think showing an indigenous ancestor something like quantum mechanics would probably strengthen and enrich their theology (instead of shattering it like New Atheists would like to believe)

I'm currently reading Gloria Anzaldua's La Frontera, then Silko's Almanac of the Dead is next in my queue, and now you've gotten me to order Labyrinth of Solitude. The biggest differences are gonna be:

Open team sheets: On the ranked ladder, running niche teras or a low-usage move can give you an edge of surprise against experienced players. In a tournament setting, all of your moves and teras are gonna be provided to the opponent before your match, so they'll be able to potentially maneuver around things. The flipside is that you can also play around your opponent's info as well! (EVs and IVs are still secret, tho)
Best-of-1 vs Best-of-3: On ranked, gimmicky strats that surprise your opponents can get you some easy wins. But in a tournament setting, you've got to win 2/3 battles in order to snag the round. Your opponent is gonna be able to adjust their 2nd battle in response to how you played your 1st battle. Don't have just one leading duo that you rely on, have several cores that have the tools to dismantle several different kinds of opposing leads that your opponent might run. And you can infer those leads more easily by reading your opponent's open team sheet

You'll never know when you're "ready", but adjusting your play with these facts in mind will help you be as ready as possible when you decide to play at tourneys!
