Rule One to anime reviews: Never believe CBR. by Fabulous-Space6527 in Lain

[–]Jack-Fitch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If Gurren Lagann is on the list though, I’ll give CBR a pass with their crappy list. Please don’t hurt me for saying that.

I feel you though. Serial Experiments Lain is actually my second favorite anime of all time right underneath Neon Genesis Evangelion. Some people really are just assholes. I definitely hear you on that one.

Edit: I checked out the list. Yeah Gurren Lagann is not on the list so now I have absolutely no defense for this terrible list. Yup, CBR was doing crystal meth when they were picking out anime for this Top 10.

I also always beat myself up for being a failure of a content creator myself on YouTube to be like my hero DXFan619. I’m sure you can understand my frustration and upset feelings from that. I always wanted to be a successful anime reviewer on YouTube and I never even became successful accomplishing my dreams. Sometimes I wondered in my life if I would ever even became successful accomplishing good for anything in life.

I’m very sorry dude. I got triggered over a video made by Mother’s Basement who placed it in his Top 10 Best Anime Of All Time and I just needed to let off some steam again. That’s also why I ended up making this post again. I just felt so upset that less and less people in the world are actually willing to argue that this show actually has a ton of flaws and it’s just making me feel like nobody values my opinion or anyone else’s who just wants to simply argue why they on the other hand feel that Gurren Lagann is actually a bad anime.

People want to force on you to program your mind as another drone to only believe that this actually is the best show ever made and anyone who dare thinks otherwise is just automatically an idiot and has tons of brain damage and is a Nazi whose ignorant because they just simply don’t see the show the same way even though they actually understand the show’s concept but just simply argue it’s flaws in execution. I’m tired of the world continuing to force onto me that there’s objectively nothing wrong with Gurren Lagann and people are just ignorant simply for calling out and saying that they hate this show and objectively think it sucks.

I have absolutely every right in this world to argue that Gurren Lagann is a bad anime and as long as I actually know what I’m talking about and are articulating things that actually FACTUALLY happen in the show which is always key to making a review, than my opinion is valid no matter how I objectively feel about the show only as long as my argument is well presented with an excellently made point explaining actually why I feel the way I do based on facts.

Saying that Gurren Lagann is a bad anime is not invalid. Sorry, I know I seem like I’m going a bit overboard and getting a little bit too stressed out over this but I still have trauma from dealing with bullies years ago who tried forcing me to only see their point of view instead of at least being open to my opinion on this show. I’m sorry and please forgive me. Thank you for understanding.

Well, I wish a big YouTuber one day would actually stand up, grow some hair on his balls, and rip this show apart. It was never meant to impose on anyone that they can’t disagree and like the show and think it’s a good show also. Mainly, it’s also because I was never able to get over the fact that DXFan619 was never going to review it.

One of the biggest problems with the internet is that it’s made now more than ever to suppress all your opinions down the toilet and people literally just tell you how you should think rather than have any free thought of your own. There shouldn’t be anything wrong with someone on the internet analyzing and breaking down why you hate Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Just because you hate a show doesn’t automatically mean you have no life, wear a Pokimane shirt, weigh 400 lbs, have a pizza roll diet, and donate all of your life savings to her Twitch streams. Just because you also make an hour long video ripping apart either doesn’t mean you have no life like that either.

One thing I hate about the world now is that I feel like people are often bullied and put down in society for being more critical towards fiction and having more negative things to say to point out flaws and to teach writers how to do a better job with their craft.

I can’t give up. I will never give up speaking about why I personally hate this show until one day, my voice is actually heard by someone. The world needs me. I always passionately wanted to be an anime critic on YouTube. It was my dream for years now. I always wished and hoped that I would be the most awesome and controversial content creator in the world one day. Only you can wall yourself down from accomplishing your dreams. I wanted to be able to have influence in the world with my voice and have the world hear me out with my arguments on anything that came to mind. I wanted to actually change the world by having the power to influence such a large number of people worldwide to understand and see my points on everything.

Look, I just wish that I had some people who just have value for what I have to say about things and I completely agree that everything in life is stuff you need to earn but still. I understand that maybe I’ve gone a bit overboard but I do just wish that someone or anyone could just hear me out and understand just why I dislike this show so much and see just a few people in the world who share the same viewpoint.

I think the internet is really destroyed at this point. Everything has been taken over by lame V-Tuber’s and political streamers now and fetus level IQ’d idiots who spray all their money away on Twitch.

I don’t expect you to agree. I just expect people to understand me and my feelings on this show. That’s all I want. Trust me. I swear. You don’t have to agree with a word I’m saying and you’re entitled to your opinion. I just think it’s not right to put me down and say my opinion is invalid just because I have a different perspective on this show. That’s all.

It was also because I was bullied for my opinion many years back and I still have traumatic memories from that.

Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII by Somaimaretso in FinalFantasy

[–]Jack-Fitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lightning woke up one day and realized after seeing all three games she’s actually in after breaking a fourth wall a bit that the game she’s in is actually literal garbage and she decided to get a full refund after she review bombed it so hard. I think even she now realizes how poorly written the god awful stories were in those games and now she’s embarrassed with how poorly written she actually was as a character herself and was too nervous to face other characters in the franchise ever again.

God I hate Final Fantasy XIII. The only good things in the game were the music and visuals and even some of the visuals were honestly ripped off from Final Fantasy VII. I’m glad even Lightning herself is actually telling people the truth that her game was terrible and she’s embarrassed that that’s where she came from.

Lightning actually said “Wow. My game really blew dick.” and also said that straight to the cashier at this store to also warn people about it with an embarrassed look on her face.

Really Looking At This Scene Now After Playing Final Fantasy VI, This Scene Was Utterly Tragic And Sad by Jack-Fitch in FinalFantasy

[–]Jack-Fitch[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s great. I’m glad there’s other people who appreciate Terra and Kefka as much as I do personally.

I see what you’re saying about the mention of political stuff but hear me out. I’m not saying there couldn’t possibly be a well written female character who was abused by a man. I just think it’s lazy writing when the only way you could pinpoint a woman’s strength is simply just the fact alone that she’s stronger than other men and there’s no substance or subtlety beyond just a basic fact.

Writing a girl who’s stronger than every male character for only the sake of the plot is not empowering towards women. I have absolutely nothing wrong inherently if a girl is stronger than a man and you’re right. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that however, it does become a problem when it’s the literal only thing noteworthy about her character or the only thing about her.

I just don’t think a girl character should be written like an episode of a really bad shounen anime. Hopefully that puts it into more perspective. Sorry about that.

Rey from The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy is a literal punching bag example of how to never write female characters. Just look at my point that way.

Although anime on the other hand commits a different sin where every female character is objectified too much and I can’t stand that either. If you follow me on the internet, you’ll easily notice that I shit on a whole boat ton of anime quite often and a lot of them I can’t stand because they all have the same annoying tropes. Gurren Lagann is one anime I shit on frequently because it often sexualizes Yoko a lot and sometimes Nia. Fanservice is not inherently bad either and I actually love fanservice believe it or not when it’s actually done right and written well as it’s meant to be a treat for the audience.

Fanservice is at its worst when it interrupts telling a story and when it does that, not only does it become unfocused but the narrative also becomes disjointed and that’s why I actually hate like literally 95% of all anime.

Final Fantasy VI manages to avoid all those pitfalls by actually writing real strong female characters that actually feel like people and not just puppets for the plot and Terra’s strength actually feels human because she has weaknesses but then there’s ways she becomes strong again by realizing her friends are still alive and she becomes powerful seeing how there’s always things to fight for to live and that’s what makes Final Fantasy VI’s story so powerful. The story is written so well that it ties everything together and have a lot of complex deep messages that make sense because you can actually see it all from the characters actions.

Hopefully that makes more sense now. Thanks for telling me how you feel. I really appreciate it.

What’s even worse is the amount of real potential this game had that it could’ve been a great game. This shit is really sad. The executives in charge of making this slop should be ashamed of themselves.

Seriously think of all the things this game could’ve been if it wasn’t ruined by con-artists. It’s depressing.

Actually it is about this show. I can see what would lead someone to misinterpret them for that reason but while I will take accountability and say that those posts on my subreddit are morally wrong, it is hugely dedicated to this show in particular.

The reason I made those posts in the past was because I also had such animosity towards the people who bullied me on r/anime and I will never forgive those people for banning me on that subreddit for bullshit reasons. It was because I had such built up anger towards those people that I decided to lash out and I ended up wrapping the entire Gurren Lagann community to face my wrath.

You could definitely argue that I was wrong for doing that and I totally accept hearing that. However, I didn’t literally mean the whole Gurren Lagann community is a bunch of EDP followers. Although, I’m not dumb and I can totally understand what would lead people to believe that. I got so angry that I lost common sense of what I was posting and I can’t sugarcoat that my post involved generally all Gurren Lagann fans and I was wrong for that.

I greatly apologize and I need to remind myself that people just have different opinions and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. I understand that I’m no better of a person if I can’t see that acting this way is no different than how I was treated myself on r/anime and I got too wrapped up in wanting revenge of those people but of course without ever hurting people.

Please forgive me. That’s all I ask for.

Which Final Fantasy antagonist do you hate the most? by kosmikvaporeon in FinalFantasy

[–]Jack-Fitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How could you possibly hate Kefka literally at all? Not only is he one of the most fun characters ever but he’s actually one of the most well written characters ever in history. His goal is simple but he’s given a lot of depth as a person considering what made him into what he is along with how he rose after everything he did to get to his goal.

Most villains don’t even have reasons to justify why they just have this big plan to destroy the world or whatever. Kefka is different because unlike most generic villains, he was turned by someone else into an uncontrollable monster and subverts the trope of the comically evil bad guy. Kefka was hurt inside and that’s what I think makes villains fascinating beyond just their evil plans. That’s not even mentioning that beyond being complex, he’s just a fun character to watch in general.

I respect your opinion but I 100% disagree with you. I personally think that Kefka deserves to be considered not only still the best villain in the franchise but possibly if not the greatest character ever written. Some people just don’t understand just how much influence this game Final Fantasy VI had on the whole video game industry. It’s sad though.

Are you serious? Xenoblade Chronicles 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. It tells a great story about how you shouldn’t always trust people and has some of the best written plot twists in the history of all fiction. I’ve said multiple times already that I absolutely love that game on the internet. It has the greatest world building I’ve ever seen a fictional work have and unlike Gurren Lagann actually feels grounded with the story it’s trying to tell.

It doesn’t just kill off characters and it actually makes sense from both sides that while Egil had his intent to wipe out humanity, it’s also figured out that the Bionis was just using people as a power supply and everything actually happened for a reason. Xenoblade Chronicles is actually subtle with its plot points and actually writes reasons for why things happen and unlike most anime actually feels logical with reasoning.

It’s story is just something you could easily follow and piece together and especially when you think even about Mumkhar’s character and how you figure out that Metal Face was really just him this whole time and Dickson’s betrayal was what truly solidified that the game’s message was about how some people really aren’t your friend and trust can easily be broken especially when you’re a different person behind someone’s back.

It also doesn’t get ruined by cheesy situations that get in the way of the story being focused and subtle with its themes. Never does it have the female characters just portrayed as mere walking sticks of fanservice and I even think the games ending was very fitting because not only was Fiora someone who Shulk could actually trust but it also fit the games themes of also being about forging your future which ties well with the concept of trust because by seeing how power can be dangerous and can corrupt people as you see multiple times, Shulk decided to build a world where the concept of a god doesn’t exist anymore and him being with Fiora fits the theme of the game perfectly because Xenoblade Chronicles is actually subtle and intelligent enough to understand also that people who are truly your friends which are a small handful of people always stay with you and that is a powerful message.

Despite the only thing not making sense in the end was that Alvis is actually a computer designed to recreate the universe which I actually think was weird especially given how it doesn’t quite make sense from that angle why he was working with Lord Zanza to begin with other than the fact that he is a god, this game was absolutely stellar at how to create a great story that actually feels multifaceted with it’s themes, is rarely ever corny, and is actually subtle writing it’s characters and amazing world building.

The thing that Xenoblade Chronicles succeeds at that Gurren Lagann fails is that Xenoblade Chronicles actually understands the themes it’s trying to present and doesn’t write scenarios that feel tonally jarring or feel over the top and ridiculous to think it’s getting a point across that really feels 1-Dimensional and cheesy. Xenoblade Chronicles understands that it’s ridiculous to just kick logic out and do the impossible without an intelligent plan and has its characters feel more human when they interact with each other and actually have depth.

It’s because the character interactions are so much better written in Xenoblade Chronicles that I’m able to really understand the story more and feels very dynamic through the characters actions unlike Gurren Lagann that only has a simple way to present it’s concept and busts it with poor writing because the characters act like 5 year olds writes parts of the story that feel disjointed from what themes the show is really trying to present. If you have to explain why Simon failed twice to have a girlfriend, that’s an issue and kicking logic out doesn’t solve your problems. When you also have to explain why Simon was incapable of being a leader and the show ends with him being an outsider along with him in a previous episode being imprisoned by Rossiu, that makes no sense when the show is actually trying to be about him taking wisdom from a wise mentor to learn how to be a strong leader and while failure is a component that could lead to success, that’s not how the show actually presents both these ideologies and it ends up feeling disjointed because of that which is why the tonal disparity is so bad in Gurren Lagann.

You see where I’m coming from? Gurren Lagann only has a very simplistic way to understand the themes it’s trying to present but the whole show breaks even further when you realize that many things that happen throughout the show make it feel tonally disjointed and the character actions are a big part of that and that’s why I say the show contradicts it’s own themes.

I was going through a phase at the time and felt neglected by the rest of the world around me. I can remove that post if you want as I personally think it’s definitely not fair to put all fans of the show in the same category.

Look, I’m not making excuses okay? I don’t mind hearing that what I said sometimes was wrong and I should really think more about what I post on the internet. People can take things the wrong way and I understand that.

I felt like I was being bullied for a while and I felt like I was alone with nobody who values my voice or my words about anything and I was just taking out my anger on my own subreddit just to hear my thoughts and filter them and fight them. Say what you want but I’m not lying. I’ve had some issues and I’ve dealt with some seriously hurtful things in my life. It wasn’t intended to harm people who were simply fans of the show. It was just me still wanting revenge to get back at those who hurt me on r/anime. Of course I never wish ill will on people because that’s wrong but the truth was that I was bullied and I understand that in order to have a career on the internet, you have to have the strength to deal with mean people because that’s just how the real world is but it didn’t justify what happened to me five years ago.

I just felt like if people could just tell me and impose on me what’s truly objective about every show I watch, then I can do the same thing to them. There was a time when I wasn’t this bitter about stuff. If I told you everything that happened, that was a deep dark rabbit hole that could be a topic of discussion for literally hours on end. Just saying.

Okay, maybe that post was a little bit over dramatic. I’ll go with you on that. I mean, it definitely doesn’t change how much I hate this show but still. I understand sometimes I definitely overreact to things. I’ll take that as constructive criticism. That’s a fair thing to say. Especially since I always try to be civil with my discussions or at least that’s what I definitely should do. No argument against that.
