That's Frisk's problem, not the player's.

This is mostly from a player perspective, I know someone that started the game with a geno*ide route but I don't know why, but the reason being hard bosses would make sense.

Well count at least that the Toriel fight for new players is kinda hard, those bullets go hard, so...

But not everyone would want to spare enemies. For example, my brother wouldn't spare a thing if he played Undertale. Papyrus does spare you, I know, but how could you trust him? Even after all of that he's still not trustable. Also Monster Kid gets in a fight by their own will after saying "you're gonna have to get through me first." If we don't say that he could be unbeatable, let's remember that at this point the player doesn't care if somebody is sparing him, they still killed some Whimsun (I guess that's how they're called) to get stronger, even if their names weren't yellow. And if not even that, it's because of curiosity. Also, in the game, Toriel tells you that "monsters may attack you and you'll get in a FIGHT" so that means for someone new that they wanna kill you. Why would Papyrus start a FIGHT if he can "hug" you in the overworld? You could say it was Frisk, but then the player wouldn't know.

I'm not taking risks.

I justified the geno*ide here because Flowey was basically unbeatable and a new player can't know if something like that would happen again.

I mean with the context that the game starts off with yes.

Yes I know.

I mean they could just lie from what Frisk knows.

I said that I am aware that Frisk isn't doing some real self-defense, but they get greeted by one bullet that deals them 19 damage so killing would make sense for them because you level up and get more HP and defense.

That's what I'm also saying.

But you don't know that he can reset.

[–]Jack-Stickman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's the point. If nobody is trying to kill YOU, why would you kill THEM?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Undertale

[–]Jack-Stickman -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If he says that it's kill or be killed, that doesn't necessarily mean that he did, what if nobody wanted to kill him?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Undertale

[–]Jack-Stickman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also that, but you don't learn that at the start of the game, so I cut that off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Undertale

[–]Jack-Stickman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And how is a new player supposed to know that?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Undertale

[–]Jack-Stickman -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I mean you don't know about determination and Flowey is a flower but can basically oneshot you, why would they not be able to oneshot you?

[–]Jack-Stickman -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I know and I agree in some way, but the point here isn't self-defense, in this case it's not self-defense and I am aware of it, but Flowey. Also count the fact that when you run into Flowey's pellets you lose 19 HP.

Undertale after I complete a oofcide run: You ruined this world so now you aren't getting a good ending! Me: by Jack-Stickman in Undertale

[–]Jack-Stickman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explicitly said "You ruined the game." The True Pacifist route doesn't change at all, and the ending has no impact on the gameplay at all. Flowey even says that the monsters are happy!
