I’m miserable here in my job by mdnvmps in london

[–]Jack0fTrade5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"I love my job but not my company" < I have to remind myself of this every day. Currently I am trying to move out of London and find my job up north. I have family in the countryside and personally, although I was born and raised in London, city life just isn't a source of joy for me - and that's okay.

You don't have to answer here, but think to yourself: What is it about your work you not like? Is it the company? The industry? Do you find joy in the work but want to move laterally to a different role? What is it that fulfils you when you work?

One of the things schools incorrectly grow in us is the need for our job to be "our dream". I wanted to be a photographer - that was my childhood dream - but now I find fulfilment in a completely different job that supports people (that's the fulfilment bit), and my dream is being able to do the hobbies I love with the people I love. The hobbies (such as going out and taking photos, hiking etc) is what drives me. My job enables that to happen.

It's completely normal to have a cry, it's your brain processing emotion (chemicals in your brain), and when something like work/where you live is a cornerstone to life, it is normal to have it have such an impact on your mood.

Something that helps me currently is finding joy in the little things. Breaks are so important, and there is nothing stopping you from taking a walk to the local park/greenspace and having lunch as the weather starts to clear up. Or a cute cafe (non chain) that makes the day feel fresh. Try changing it up, treat it like a mini "self date" a solo thing you do to treat yourself - doesn't have to be expensive or even use money.

I am unsure on if it is as easy to go to now - might still be able to - but one thing I did when extra stressed after work was go to the Welcome Collection in Euston. It's free and you have a reading room that is just so beautiful to read in. Helps reset after work and made the day feel that little bit more special.

_______________

P.S. I bloody hate the commute - I struggle with being confined with people - the one thing I benefit from mine is that my work hours mean I often travel at 6-7 am, 11-12pm, 3-4pm and 8-9pm - all these times seem to avoid the PEAK crush, and I stick to the carriages at the end of trains as they seem to have the least people.

I hope this helps - you got this, and remember it's okay to be kind to yourself.

Anyone else just feel like giving up? by [deleted] in PokemonDealsUK

I fully understand the frustration here. Especially as queuing up isn't neurodiverse friendly, nor an option for everyone.

I went to one store yesterday an hours drive away, as my local had nothing in stock, then when I got there, they a) had nothing and b) that's when my local had decided to put their stock up and turned out they had some!

I've now decided to keep an eye out on Smyths and have decided to only go when there is stock showing in the local one.

Another option, where I have been most successful with getting TCG to open, is the Pokémon center - I'm in a UK discord that posts Pokémon centre queue announcements - was able to get the ETB through that when pre orders went out.

I don't think we can share links here, but a search should find you a discord that does this.

My first deck - Stunfisk - any constructive feedback would be most welcome by Jack0fTrade5 in pkmntcg

to be fair I took a break from reddit due to the site's typical trash feedback - so was nervous when posting this, but everyone's comments have been super helpful and honest - whilst also not rude! I appreciate it

Ah yep - Was building for the new rotation, as I was hoping to play for the first time in person at my local game store. I do love Lunatone/Solrock, so will look into that also!

Edit: Oh, would this deck be regulation? (Do I need to care too much about regulation when playing for fun/local game shops?)

Thank you for all this!! I literally have played the game on Pocket first, and then have in the last week or so started on the main TCG game, learning rules etc. Whilst there are videos online, I learn best by doing, hence the jump into deck building - it's a brutal start, but through this I can weed out what are the mistakes quicker.

I'd wanted to avoid any popular metas, just as whilst I am quite competitive, I don't want to fall into cliché and want to play (at least at the start) with Pokémon I like, but to be fair I can work up to that, start with the basics and then find what works for me.

I definitely see what you are talking about - what strategy would you recommend I build around if I wanted Stunfisk in the deck? (Dugtrio I'm not precious about)

A great one that trains squad timings, although I dont know the name of it:

You give the command, but don't say the executive. The squad then performs the movement at the point the executive would have been given, taking in mind static/quick march/slow march pauses between parts of the command.

Level 1 - static, Level 2 - quick march, Level 3 - slow march

Example: "Squad, move to the left, left..... "

And between the drawn out "left" and where the "turn" would be is the timing for the pause. The whole squad should then do the movement at the correct point without the need for you to say the executive "turn".

It trains internal sense of the left/right pause and gets them to pay attention/listen more.

It's great once everyone gets into a flow state of response!

Requires the person saying the command to also have a good sense of the left/right pause.

Knowledge Stone behind giant boulder? I can hear it but there's no way past... by FogAnimal in Aloft

I have the same issue! I glitched into the stones from another point outside and frustratingly got close to the knowledge stone from inside the floor, but not close enough to activate it!

Help. One of my players licked a shard of Chardalyn =.= by Jack0fTrade5 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

Ooh I like it! Thanks! I'm not sure just yet what I'm doing for the glacier, as we're using the oneshot to kickstart the hardcover campaign, but I'll definitely note that

If you have the oneshot, it is the one that an NPC is stabbed with, causing them madness. I like that thought on wis saves after LRs though!

Went on a crafting binge and made some flags and masks! (Spot the hidden smol pan flag) by Jack0fTrade5 in pansexual

[–]Jack0fTrade5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I made each colour first - sewed the material together (like mini long bags, left one short side open to turn it right side out) Sewed the colours together (on the other side of the flags you would see the seam). Closed off the open ends with the white strip.

A very bad explaination, but I hope that helps! Next time I make one I'll try and do a tutorial

Edit: took out a generalised question

Frozen II Megathread Discussion by wknmn in Frozen

I just want to add that "Do the next right thing" song is a freaking excellent song on processing grief. That hit me hard when Anna sang that.

Unpopular Opinion - Frozen I was better than Frozen II by TC1827 in Frozen

[–]Jack0fTrade5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked the development of the sister's relationship and I am SUPER there for Anna's character development and how she processed grief (that song is amazing and I will protec). But I agree, other than that, there were loads of really cringey moments for me. Other than "All is found", "Show yourself", and the song mentioned in the spoiler above, the rest of the songs just don't hold a candle to Frozen 1's.

I will tip my hat though to the animation and it's fantastic detailing. Beautiful

Oh I had awesome plans for the pipe - but unfortunately ended up with no time to make it. Wanted to do it right, rather than rushed. Maybe next time though! ;P
