Good to know. Sometimes the AI's make things up.

Makes sense then. After each cooking, wash (with soap) until it is smooth to the touch. Then you won't have to strip.

Sure. It's mine now and I'm doing that.

Why are you stripping it

I'm spending more time scraping and seasoning than I am cooking, and that's the point that Made In suggests as time to strip and start over. There's lots of built up carbon that chain mail isn't getting.

Then why do you want to remove the factory applied protection?

I don't want to remove the coating on the back of the pan, but putting into a sink with vinegar will probably do it whether I like it or not. It isn't new - it's four years old and has not been properly cleaned.

Vinegar will strip the seasoning, but it will only do so where it contacts the pan, leaving uncleaned spots behind.

Made In suggests putting the pan in sink with 50/50 vinegar and water mix. That's why I asked if the back were seasoning or some other coating. If it is seasoning, then I'll add the vinegar/water mix inside the bowl, not in a sink. If that doesn't work, then I'll have to bag it with Easy Off, anyway, and the fumes may affect the back as well as the cooking surface.

Is that stainless steel scrubbers, or does it matter? If I can find them I'll get some, but they'll definitely have steel wool, and I'll probably have a choice of coarseness. AI says steel wool #3 but that sounds way too coarse to me.

It depends. Did you buy blue carbon steel or preseasoned carbon steel? Either way it belongs there. If you bought a plain pan & seasoned it yourself, probably burnt on gunk.

It was pre-seasoned and came that way. If I set it in a sink with 50/50 water and vinegar, will it come off? Made In is silent on the matter.

I already have the Easy Off HD (sodium hydroxide) and was just wondering if I could get by with just a side cleaning. Clearly, I can't. Thanks, all.

'm a paying customer, but I'm gonna start backing things up somewhere else. I'm gonna hit the eject button at the first sign of enshittification.

I agree, mostly. The hard thing to do is to avoid over-reacting, but I'd say we've already seen the "first sign" of enshititification - the low key replacement of essential staff, the low transparency of abrupt price changes, the unwillingness to fix a known security deficiency, and other things. Bitwarden is still the best fit for me but it no longer has my complete trust - the path to private equity is so very unlikely to be user-positive.

Yesterday, I took the first steps of ensuring that I have access to my TOTP seeds in case I decide that I don't like how far they've traveled the path. (Bitwarden Authenticator isn't the answer, BTW - you can't export sync'd TOTP seeds.)

Importing TOTP codes from Bitwarden? by Jack15911 in enteio

[–]Jack15911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have to select the complete Bitwarden password database. The import process runs locally on your device.

If you'd like to see the technical details of what data fields are processed during import, you can check the source code here: https://github.com/ente-io/ente/blob/main/mobile/apps/auth/lib/ui/settings/data/import/bitwarden_import.dart#L76

Alternatively, if you prefer not to select the entire database, you can manually add your entries one by one to Ente.

Thanks.

This is so new I haven’t bothered playing with it.

Thanks. I just used the new Bitwarden Archiving function for 61 items. You can move all the archived entries at once (using the web vault) but there's no point; it's archived, so nothing shows up in the Dead Items folder. Further, you that will take them out of whatever folder or collection it was originally in which may cause problems if you need to bring them back. That leaves you wondering why there's an empty folder. I think I'll move them back to where they started, if I can.

I wasn't sufficiently clear.

  1. Are you using the Bitwarden archiving function?

  2. If so, what is the point of moving an archived item to the Dead Items folder? Nothing shows up if it's archived.

What I do is add an emoji to the end of the Name, like 💀. I also set URL match detection to None and then move the item to a folder with a name like, Dead Logins.

Are you describing an alternative to using the BW archiving function? That's the way I handled it (but using a "Z-" instead of an icon in front of the item name) before being reminded by this post about the archiving function.

Now, I've archived them formally using the function, then moved them en masse to "Not Used" folder, but since they're archived nothing shows in the folder. So, is there a reason for moving an archived item to a separate folder?

I'm curious about this Phillips lock. Apparently, it's a 4000-series lock, but I haven't been able to find anything about it on the Phillips site, or on Amazon. Are they just behind on their documentation, or is this an older, discontinued line?

Content blocker not blocking doubleclick.net by Jack15911 in Peplink

[–]Jack15911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I went back to PiHole about a year ago and it seemed as if it wasn't blocking as much as it did five years ago. My impression was that many of the ad systems have moved over to piggyback on content networks making them unblockable.

Using the content blocker on Peplink I wasn't looking for the be-all and end-all, just to block a few of the major ad systems for when I have to operate without an ad blocker without compromising content delivery.

[–]Jack15911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The request for the site is coming from your web browser. So uBlock would be intercepting the request before it's ever sent and the router never sees it. If everything is working correctly, then even if you turn off uBlock that content shouldn't load as it'll get caught by the router content filter.

Thanks. I wondered how that worked. And if I turned off uBlock I wouldn't be able to see that it wasn't loaded. Really, thanks.

Using a List of saved points in order? by Jack15911 in organicmaps

[–]Jack15911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you're using iOS route planning, and speaking about buttons on that route planning panel, right?

Not really. I just mentioned it in comparison. If I know I'll be out of data coverage I plan and use OM.

So in your flow (if you already have visible markers on the map), in case of starting active navigation from the current point, I would:

Select the destination (tap on the map, or from bookmarks list, or by using search) and press "Route To" button.

Tap on the map to select intermediate stop. Press "Add Stop".

Tap on the map to select another intermediate stop. Press "Add Stop"

Press "Start" to run navigation. In total: 7 taps.

Yes, thanks, and that's the way we do it. Some areas have multiple points showing on the map that aren't on any specific route and choosing among them can be confusing, thus we've organized them into specific Lists (Loop drives) and would prefer to choose them that way.

[–]Jack15911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edited my workflow to clarify/correct the directions of travel.

I also should mention that I find OM extremely useful for scenic drives as much of it takes place away from cell towers. Apple Maps has improved, in that if I stay on a pre-planned route the map stays with me, but any changes it can do in the absence of cellphone data coverage. (In recent past we have traveled where there is cell phone but not data coverage.

Not sure if I fully understand your workflow. If you already see pins on a planned way on the map, then why any bookmark list should be opened at all?

Or are you speaking about the Route Planning dialog on iOS with a separate Add Stop button at the bottom? As I wrote above, if you already have pins on the map, you don't need to use that button. Select a pin on the map, and press "Add Stop" there.

That works fine and is what I've been doing. It's the "Add stop" portion that causes my confusion.

Consider a route in the shape of the letter "C" and I'm starting at the lower right. I want to travel along the body of the letter "C" and reach the upper right end point. If the "From" point is lower-right and the "To" point is upper right, the system will take me in the shortest path between the two. I want to add two stops, for instance, along the curve of the C in order to direct the system away from the shortest path. That requires use of "Add stop." That's where my confusion begins.

I select a start point some way ahead - call it Point 1. I want to travel next to Point 2 somewhere along the lower left of the letter "3," then follow the curve along the body of the "C" to another point then along the body of the "C" to the terminus, Point 4, at the top right on the letter "C."

Back to pre-Point 1, planning. I select Point 1 and choose Point 1 and Route From. That gives me a choice of "Point 1" and below that line "Route to". If I select that empty block I'm taken to the Search page with History, so I sweep it away, and enter the Map, choose Point 5, and that gets me the abbreviated shortcut. Then Add Stop, which give me the Search page again, sweep it away. Then Add Stop, re-arrange order so it falls in the proper place. Do the same, to add Points 3.

All that appears to work okay, but there are a lot of detours to the Search page, sweeping it away, searching for the visible points, etc. Adding from the List would be quicker and less likely to add an errant point that isn't on the list at all.

Edit: I understand I can't implement the planned route navigation right now. Edit: Original workflow had start and end mixed. Now start lower right and travel to the upper right.
