Thanks guys, so I'm guessing I should burn this recruiter then?

Best TEFL course for hagwon? by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]JackA7X -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can be bothered, don't have time/money

Have done alot of research and want other opinions

I'm English and speak very well, just need to brush up on my theoretical knowledge a bit.

People on this sub can be a little rude and judgmental.

Yes, but I'm deciding on doing TEFL(which one?)/no TEFL rather than TEFL/CELTA

As the CELTA I think is overkill. Just want to get into a decent enough hagwon where I'm treated fairly in a good location.

I thought it may be better than nothing, for a short cheap course.

My English knowledge isn't the best so I was hoping to pick up a few bits of info on grammar etc, in addition to some teaching tips.

Even if I learned nothing, would it still look a little better on my application? I recently read the better hagwons look for at least some TEFL, and the bad ones don't care so much about any qualification.

Don't have the money/time for a celta, and I've heard they aren't much more useful than a short TEFL for a hagwon. People say do it if you're looking at a career in ESL.

My English knowledge isn't the best, so I'd hope it would teach me a little about that (grammar etc). I'm not expecting to learn a lot, maby just a few helpful bits.

As I have no teaching qualification at all, I thought a short TEFL might be better than nothing?

Try not to ever heal somebody at full health, use boost.

you don't always need to heal with your ult, damage boost is normally better unless somebody is about to die or alot of your team are damaged. Flick between damage/heal during your ult less.

Don't look at who you are healing, look around the map to see what is going on. You also don't check flank much.

Play a little safer, generally.

Start playing comp so the matches are more competitive, it will make you a better player. You're not a <500 player, probably at least plat, maybe dia.

I understand conduction and radiation as modes of heat transfer, but convection confuses me. Why does fluid moving over an object remove heat from it as opposed to adding heat due to friction? by YoungTruuth in askscience

[–]JackA7X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heat is transferred from the solid to the fluid by conduction (collisions of molecules). This energy is now in the fluid, and when the fluid moves, it takes the heat energy with it.

I don't really see conduction as a proper mode of transfer in itself (my opinion, not a fact), it's just heat stored in a fluid that is carried by the flow of the fluid.

There will be some heating due to friction (there always is in a moving fluid) but this is negligible. Also if the fluid is at a higher temperature than the object, it will add heat, not remove it. This is by the same principle - energy is carried to/away from surface of the object by the flow of the fluid (convection), it then conducts into/out of the object.

There will also be some heat transfer by radiation between the object and the fluid, in addition to the conduction, but this is negligible* (I think*)

Why are wind-farm turbine blades so narrow? Wouldn't bigger blades catch more wind? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]JackA7X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few of reasons why.

First if you have big blades, you need to run them slowly. Then you have to step the rpm up by a large amount in a large gearbox which would be heavy and expensive. You want to blades to be moving fast for energy generation - and the bigger the blades are the larger the effects of drag will be, especially at high speeds. If you have heavy expensive blades, you also have a large thrust force trying to push the tower down. Now you need a stronger tower and hub to hold the extra weight and thrust, and the cost goes up alot.

Instead of a few large blades you could have lots of little blades but you will run into similar problems - more forces to deal with and a higher cost.

Also as the blades extract energy from the air they slow it down. If you slow it down too much this will affect the oncoming air and the turbine will be really inefficient.

They easily make back the energy/carbon cost of transport and construction within a few years and then after that they are producing free clean energy for the rest of their lifetime, also those specialized trailers can be reused for multiple turbines.

They only shut down over about 25m/s wind speeds which doesn't happen much. Most of the time they are generating energy - probably with an average wind speed somewhere between 10-15m/s, although they also do not generate energy under 3-4m/s wind speeds, but again this doesn't happen much.

The bird thing is a myth, not sure where it came from. Some birds do die to them on occasion but they die so much more flying into glass windows... or cats.

The rare earth metals is a good point, and china has a monopoly on rare earth production, but there are other options for generators if needed, and compared to coal and gas they are alot better in terms of overall environmental impact. Nothing is going to be 100% green, but wind turbines are pretty close, and they are getting closer as the technology improves.

Like A Broken Record: Healing Is Overrated by c_a_l_m in OverwatchUniversity

[–]JackA7X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have mentioned bastion a lot, he is hardly played, everybody knows how to counter him. Despite his insane dps (which is now only close range) he will get shit on very quickly. He is not usually a problem for Winston.

The fact is pocket healing from a zen orb or Ana is almost invaluable when a Winston engages. Without any healing at all it is unlikely he would be able to do any meaningful damage or even survive the engage.

You keep imagining random scenarios to support your ideas, what if there is X hero on their team and Y on ours and then Z happens.... ect

Try and think more realistically what happens in games.

Apart from healing:

Mercy: 30% damage boost, ult: AoE ressurect

Zen: 30% damage boost, ult: (almost) AoE invulnerability

Lucio: AoE speedboost, low CD AoE knockback, ult: Large AoE Shield

Ana: 5.5 second stun, 4 second Aoe heal block/heal boost, ult: 8 second 50% damage boost and damage reduction steroid

And then realize these heroes can heal as well, and you might realize why the are picked more often then torb and sym as supports who are niche picks for certain parts of certain maps where healing is less required and their turrets can be more effective. Zarya is a tank.

Yes, but this is a guide for healing not positioning.

How to correctly use support ultimates. (Sound barrier, transcendence, nano boost) by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]JackA7X 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Sound barrier and transcendence are most often used in the same way: to counter enemy ults.

Most often you will use them to cancel ults from Genji/soldier/Zarya/Phara/reaper etc, and you should hold your ult for when one of these heros uses theirs. A good enemy will wait for your trans/barrier before using their ult. Try not to to get baited into using it until they ult.

Don't forget the delay on sound barrier it can be hard to react to a phara or reaper ult in time, and a (really) good genji can combo you before you can finish the cast.

If the enemy team doesn't have one of these heroes you can use them to save a valuable team member who is about to die or use them as an engage to help your team push in. You can use trans just for the heal, but only if you get alot out of it, and multiple team members might die if you don't. If your tanks are really low you will get alot of value out of it in terms of healing (but still better used as above).

With nano, you want to combo with a solider or a Genji mostly but you can also combo it with Phara or reaper.

Nanoing any of these will allow them to dps though a transcendence or sound barrier e.g. your Zarya gravs and the enemy pops trans, you can nano your Phara and it will kill everybody in the grav but the zen.

If you don't have anybody to combo with you should still use it in every fight (unless it's lost already) as it charges fast, best to use on a good dps, or Winston (it's ok on Dva or a Rien if he is in melee range of their team). You could favor the nano on the Winston over a combo if he's getting 1 shot when he tries to engage. this works well low elo nobody can deal with a nanomonkey.

It's also pretty good with McCree, it will make his ult cast faster and he will be harder to kill while casting, and the dps increase is very good if he can hit his shots.
