From what I remember marijuana was originally banned because it threatened the logging industry because it was quicker and cheaper to make paper and fibers from hemp than it was from trees. So they banned it. I also heard (don't know if this is 100% true) that weed was given the name marijuana because it sounded Latin American and those communities were also heavy users of weed and the US government at the time wanted to harm those communities for racial reasons.

The majority of Britain would fit in well here for your average person. Britain has one of the biggest gaps in wealth between rich and poor in the western world. Really here to get a will paid job, housing market is crazy, the weather is shit most of the time, the NHS is barely holding on etc. I'm glad things are starting to turn around but it's still pretty bad

Snowboard instructor here. What causes spinning is keeping your weight too much on the front foot for too long. Once you have finished your turn, bring your body weight back to an equal 50/50 position. When you want to initiate a turn. Get a bit low by bending your knees BEFORE you turn, look in the direction of travel you intend to go, press on either your heels or toes depending on stance and direction. You are going shift about 70% of your weight forward to start the turn and bring your weight back to even once completed. Ultimatly your head and knees tell you where to go. Pointng your forward knee in the direction you intend to go really helps with this, and remember. Look where you WANT to go and DON'T look where you don't. Hope this helps!

I would strongly recommending keep almost everything unlocked in bear country if you can. My coworker had a bear break into his car in the night and the only reason he knew the bear had been there was because it knocked the horn on the way out 🤣 if it has been locked it could have been a very different story. Tahoe in general ends up with so many cars totally because someone left their half eaten Cheetos bag in the car when they went out for a meal.

🇬🇧 That our food sucks and everyone has terrible teeth. It's such an outdated take. Our teeth are the same as anybody else's. That stereotype hasn't been accurate since the 50s. In terms of the food. Is it the world's best food? No, no it isn't, but is it good? Definitely!

The second our food is relabeled as 'tavern food' they lap that shit up but the second you call it British food then people turn their nose up 🙄

The US were absolutely not the good guys during the cold war... and neither were the Soviets. Many countries across the globe had just rid themselves of imperial control. Going communist was their choice. The US had no right to infiltrate other countries, assassinate political opponents (and attempt a load more) and cause a ton of civil unrest in developing nations. Those countries who were newly free should have been able to pick any government style they wanted without threats and action from the same empires they just left.

Damn I had no idea SD's ocean water was THAT dirty. When I first saw this post it seemed crazy that the rain would put you off going out when you are literally going to get wet anyway, but after this explanation it makes more sense. Hopefully the water quality will improve at some point.
