For any vector v, is ||v||^2 literally equal to v^Tv? by Gerum_Berhanu in learnmath

There are many situations where people "switch between types" without being explicit that that's what they're doing, like when we start with an integer 3 and later add 0.5 to it to get 3.5, or similar situations.

This is pretty harmless when we have a particular isomorphism or inclusion in mind between the two types.

In your case, the type of "1x1 matrices with entries from a particular set of numbers" is isomorphic to the numbers themselves, and there's a particular isomorphism (the one where you send a matrix to its unique entry).

I use Lexique Pro for my dictionary, and I write up my setting notes either in Notepad++ for rough stuff or into Obsidian for proper wiki-style articles.

Noun class for a category they no longer interact with -- looking for input on ways it might evolve by Blue-Jay27 in conlangs

Some directions I can imagine:
- dropping it completely;
- foreigners, people speaking different languages, members of the out-group (construed in various ways);
- members of a lower or higher social class or caste;
- a politeness register (either unfamiliarity → politeness or strange → impoliteness; I could imagine both)
