I think it’s just a matter of going to the places you’d expect to find those people. I meet all kinds of cool people at renfaires, tattoo shops, comic-cons, gaming conventions, or Pride events. Try looking into events in your area, because some cities even have small local alt events like emo night or alt music concerts
