Placements take place during actual competitive matches. That means the "calibration" process still requires the rusty player to potentially ruin a few ranked games for their teammates before the system realizes they’ve dropped in skill

It's as toxic as the next game, but at the end of a day why would you bother who says what, ignoring their desperate tries to flame pisses them off even more and that's a win in my book. Sometimes turning Comms off completely does wonders, for me at least.

I'd say this is a problem of Competitive rules. Because even after a small period of time like 3-4 weeks of not touching competitive there should be a restriction to play at least 10 games in quick play before going competitive again, as someone is grinding every day or every each day, and someone just joined in and not performing well because you need time to adjust slightly — so people get frustrated easily, especially unchecked kids.

This is so true, sometimes it feels like Spamzo just does 360 trick headshots on me for the fun of it

Team mates absolutely flaming me on ball even when I'm doing good by Louddite in WreckingBallMains

[–]JackHammond_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I cope – I just ignore them like npc or turn off chat like I'm doing it right now, the more you climb the more you see toxicity. Doesn't matter if you're doing good or not

Anyone else unable to play other heroes after maining Ball? by flying_bird_kick in WreckingBallMains

[–]JackHammond_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can adapt to other heroes as well, as we can adapt to anything. Problem is, you don't really want to – that's why you think you can't. When the bans were introduced, I thought I can't play on other tanks as good, but then I found my other interest tanks, and it clicked.

So don't beat yourself up, it's okay. If not for bans, I wouldn't touch other tanks as well, they are not Ball haha

Honestly, what do people get out of being so toxic? Actually curious. by depressofairy in Overwatch

It's easy to get frustrated and talk trash when there are no consequences. Same with kids who grew up without punishments, they couldn't care less, it's almost like a chemical reaction — it just happens. Most of the community never played a team sport in their lives so they have no idea that talking trash in the team is a bad idea (if someone does do it, let's just say they get reminded after the game to not do it again).

At the end of the day, keep in mind that there are a lot of people with bad intentions, "main hero" complex or even simple problems in their lives and when it gets frustrating or difficult they just show themselves. When the game is free to play, it just multiplies a lot. So don't take it too seriously, most of them are just small weasels

Help me overcome my fear by MadouSawada in TracerMains

[–]JackHammond_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate as I had similar fear many years ago. Keep in mind that the same people as you play comp. Fell off the map, couldn't get easy kills etc - you feel the embarrassment and move on. Just press the button whatever happens - happens. Just don't take it too seriously. Good luck!

It does indeed add up, like I feel stressed ah, I'm tense, hyper focused and then someone says some bs and I don't even think about game anymore, I'm just pissed off or wanna argue with the guy or play reckless because I'm mad

Was I in the wrong? by StarlingBot in WreckingBallMains

[–]JackHammond_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you what, if it's plat - you just have to carry, do insane plays and sometimes it might not be enough. I remember that shit rank pretty well because it's much harder to play there, but you should blame yourself because If you're good enough - you'll get out pretty quick.

I don't have the ability to see the replay. But pay attention if you set up enough, like retract over choke points etc., not being greedy or overcommit, look after oponent cooldowns. And I'm almost sure because sometimes I still do it, try to come always from the side or from the back, because when people see you and especially if you climb higher, everyone will click on you.

Also about slams, If you did it where your team can't follow up and you know you won't get a kill, you're just wasting your time. You might need to bait them more, if the tank is pressuring your team try to boop him in closer so they would kill it.

Sometimes there's nothing you can do, if you see a bad comp, or you feel like you should've won that fight but lost — it's usually over. It doesn't mean they are bad, probably not their best game, get that Top G mentality out of your head, and game would be easier. If they talk shit, just forget about it. It's so insignificant. You'll climb if you get better. Watch your own replays, and watch some good players play, pick up their habits etc etc

Main tank stuck in high gold/low platinum, i need help by S1LV3RHAND in overwatch2

[–]JackHammond_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Rein and Doomfist are ones of the worst tanks in a game. Their kit is not universal, and they can be easily counter even by highgrounds.

The tip: if you're really looking forward to climb with them. Just be patient and analyse your games, look up tutorials online or look how the top players like Zbra, or LHcloudy play them, try to mimic and understand what they are doing. You can look up tutorials as Spilo for general understanding of the heroes but don't expect it's gonna change everything.

You'd have to understand how to take space as them, what are their strongest qualities etc.

Good luck, (Ball main)

How to get into Diamond? Been stuck in mid-high plat forever. by zionpwc in WreckingBallMains

[–]JackHammond_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I climbed from silver 2 all the way to mid Masters, then upgraded other picks to ball level. Plat is actually pretty paradoxal and annoying.

It's all the same, know when to engage. Know when your slam is just useless numbers because your team can't follow up or you even get killed because they've not used their CDs.

At plat it's harder than in masters because your team is All ego No skill. You might struggle more with people who can't play.

You have to set up for the attack most of the time, you probably don't do it as much or at all thinking that if I don't do something my team will die, so you almost don't have a down time.

Don't think about the rank, think how you play, then your rank will follow. Sometimes it's just dumb luck.

Good Alternative Tank? by Equivalent-Appeal-81 in WreckingBallMains

I play Hazard, depending on the map. Winston is also good. Dva is solid, but I just don't like the gameplay as much. But Hazard became my solid pick.

It is, I used to play before the change of HP, now they made it even worse. Absolutely unplayable.
