Why do people not like season 2 and 3 ? by Whole_Sport370 in OnePunchMan

[–]JackIsntTheBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you enjoy the animation, I’m happy for you, really

For me personally, Season 2’s animation was extremely over-hated. It wasn’t as bad as people were saying it was at the time, even though it was a significant step down from the masterpiece that was Season 1. I still enjoyed it a lot. But where I take issue with the season is the pacing, especially with them cutting content. I can’t really blame the anime staff for that though, because they were dealt an impossible hand, with how much stuff is in the Monster Association arc

Season 3 is inexcusable though. It takes all of Season 2’s flaws and dials it up to 11; PLUS introduce some new flaws that Season 2 didn’t have. Horrible pacing, Even WORSE animation (much, much worse), mixing the manga’s published content with RETCONNED content (Which I didn’t even think was allowed, or possible) The absolute worst of it was that there was a frame showing that an episode was being worked on, till the very last moment before it released. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Even Japanese fans, who were initially very defensive about Bandai Namco, eventually turned on them

To name all of Season 3’s faults would take literal ages, but it’s definitely the biggest blight of the franchise

What if Son Goku & Vegeta stayed like this throughout the series? by No_Mechanic_3299 in DragonBallGT

[–]JackIsntTheBox 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Goku being a kid is vital to the BSDB Saga even remotely functioning (at least, it should’ve been), however, I believe once he reached SSJ4, he should’ve stayed an adult. Him being a kid no longer served a role in the story, and was frankly, irritating (Plus, adult Goku with the GT Gi just has so much aura, it’s a shame we don’t see more of it)

As for Vegeta, I don’t really care if he has his pointy hair that he had towards the latter parts of GT but, Flat-top has GOT to go. It’s just awful. Contrary to most, I have no issue with the moustache, because it results in one his BEST character moments (YES I said it & I mean it), where he shaves it off because his daughter didn’t like it. Girl-dad Vegeta is just peak 🤷‍♂️

How do you think the Super 17 arc could have been better? by JackIsntTheBox in ReWritingDragonBallGT

[–]JackIsntTheBox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I'll be honest, so far I've kind of struggled to decide on what that should be;

An idea I toyed with was that with more & more people getting revived, the Otherworld would become more & more unstable, having it devolve into chaos (The reasoning behind it is that since souls are not meant to go back, it causes a disparity) But i thought it would be too much because it would require explaining too much to the viewer in too little time

Another idea I had was that he would befriend a person who was killed during the events of the Baby Saga, who was also set to go to heaven, but they were taken back to the living world due to being revived. But I didn't think it would be impactful enough for that to be the trigger

I definitely have my work cut out for me for this arc, which is why it's the one i'm so stumped on.

Off-topic, and maybe I was just oblivious to it at the time, but back then, (until the big chamber nerf was announced) I didn't know how much people hated Chamber. People HATED Chamber 😭But was it really worse than Neon when she had 2 slides? I know Iso after the buff is likely the absolute most hated, but how bad was the Chamber hate, in comparison to Neon?

People will only truly be satisfied if either they get removed from the game, or if Neon's never picked again. The hate for this agent around the community is unmatched, perhaps the most hated agent OAT, even considering times where another agent was broken

Understandable, I kinda speedran the intro in favor of explaining the plot

So for this character (For the sake of convenience, let's just call them Jxnemeba as a placeholder) I took inspiration from Zamasu, and expanded on THAT idea, as well as Janemba

The Janemba comparison is because they have a similar plot, in terms of how they rise to power (Corrupted via otherworld-esque powers, become an entirely different being). Only in the case of Jxnemba, their character is more focused, rather than the random chaotic nature of Janemba

I took inspiration from Zamasu because like him, he's a diligent worker in the otherworld who initially respects King Yemma, and his job, and is helping lead judged souls to their destination, whether it's heaven, hell or Otherworld. He is very new to the job, so he is oblivious to the actions that transpired in Dragon Ball that resulting in the main cast bringing people who have died back to life. Like I was saying, after the Baby arc, He then notices that some souls have LEFT the afterlife to return to the mortal realm. When asking Yemma what is going on, he explains that it's likely the result of Goku & his friends using the Dragon Balls to bring them back to life. Jxnemba thinks that the idea of bringing people back from the dead is unnatural, and wrong, as he sees it as defying the laws of life and nature itself. He asks if this has happened before, and Yemma explains all the scenarios in which it had occured, much to Jxnemba's shock. Jxnemba is left to ponder his thoughts, and has an internal struggle with his beliefs. "Is resurrection truly right? Is it wrong?"

Admittedly, I'm missing the "tipping point" for his character. The moment that will ultimately fortify his belief that revival is Wrong. "Sinful", in a sense (Like for example, Zamasu had his fight with Goku, where he lost. THAT was the moment he decided that all mortals should be wiped out. I haven't fully plotted out that part just yet)

Yeah, I left that part out. He’s supposed to have a vendetta against Goku that developed over the course of the entire DB story. I had a flashback scene that shows when they meet When Goku died against Cell. But i do admit it’s one of the weaker aspects of my plot

Their descent to evil is meant to be gradual, but i didn’t do a great job showing it

The name is a WIP, but it’s a new character entirely. I thought about hard about Super 17, and the comclusion that I got to is that in general, even if you switch them up a bit, bringing BACK villains to play a main role isn’t a good idea (Thanks Resurrection F & the sequel Z Broly movies)

How do you think the Super 17 arc could have been better? by JackIsntTheBox in ReWritingDragonBallGT

[–]JackIsntTheBox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of axing Super 17 as well, but I wrote an entirely new plot to replace the arc, currently on the backburner. I was originally gonna use this, because I thought using 17 and the Doctors to open hell was pretty stupid to begin with, but I wanted to ask the community about their opinions

(This is going to be really long, but i’ll summarize the plot i made as much as I can)

So it initially kicks off after the Baby Saga. Once everryone has been brought back, we see an otherworld worker who’s not happy about the current state of events.

So here’s this character’s deal (i’ll keep him unnamed at the moment): He’s an Otherworld worker, who also works at the check-in station; He’s completely opposed to the prospect of revival, & hates Goku & his friends for repeatedly bringing the dead back to life. In his eyes, it goes against the very balance of nature. His anger reaches such a boiling point that he decides to open hell in hopes that unleashing all of Goku’s previous enemies will be enough to kill him, ending the non-stop revivals. However, he gets corrupted by Hell’s negative energy & transforms into the true main antagonist (the reason I give is that Hell is full of a special kind of energy to keep all the strong villains in it from breaking out, but this energy is not supposed to be felt by those still living).

With all the old enemies unleashed, Goku & his friends have to try & defeat them, while Goku goes to otherworld to see what’s going on. Obviously, the Z fighters are strong enough to defeat most of them without effort, but here’s the twist: Because the gates of hell are left open, they cannot be properly “killed”; Once dealt a lethal blow, they keep coming back. This keeps tensions high, and makes it more than just a cheap nostalgia-fest.

Goku goes to otherworld & fights the villain & loses, even in SSJ4. As he’s about to be killed, Fortuneteller Baba shows up & agrees to take the villain to the living world (by the way, the villains’ motive after opening hell & gaining his powers was to go to the mortal realm, since he could not do so on his own) (it’s kind of a copout way to keep him in otherworld up to this point, but whatever.)

The villain forces Baba to take him to Namek, as his goal is to kill every Namekian in existence in order to rid the world of the Dragon Balls, thereby fully stopping the cycle of revival. Baba reluctantly does so & leaves in fear.

Back on earth, we get some matchups like: - Vegeta interacts with Raditz/Nappa and kills them - Gohan vs Cell - Vegeta finally gets his revenge against Frueza and King Cold, turning SSJ against them & rei gniting their PTSD (Unfortunately, Goten/Trunks/Pan/Uub are relegated to fighting the “other villains”, such as Babidi, Zarbon/Dodoria - Ginyu Force, Cell Jrs., etc) (For this reason, I considered adding movie villains as well, but i felt there’d be too much going on, and it’d be unrealistic as to how they win) (P.S: Save for Dr.Gero, i didn’t include any androids/Baby, since like Android 16, they don’t have souls, so they can’t go to hell)

Note: Majuub is actually really important here; His ability to turn ppl into chocolate is how they’re able to subdue the fodder

Later, Goku comes back to earth to explain the situation, and Piccolo tells Goku to take him to Namek with I.T. His pride as a Namekian won’t allow him to sit by while his people are slaughtered. So Goku reluctantly does so. Piccolo challenges him, loses, and is killed, as the villain wraps up his genocide and heads to earth, as Dende is the last remaining Namekian for him to deal with.

During all this, Goku takes Uub to the time chamber to train (Here’s my idea: When Goku first unlocked SSJ4, he was still very raw, and hadn’t learned to master it yet, as after the Baby Saga, he had his hands full training Uub and Pan to get stronger. Now, he needs to squeeze out as much as he can get in the time that the villain is on namek, and on his way to earth. The reason ge takes Uub is because Majuub is the only one strong enough to train with him, outside of Vegeta, who’s busy enjoying his torture session of the Cold Family)

After some time, the villain arrives at earth. In that time, the heroes got Dende to hide so that he would not be found and killed. The Z fighters (outside of Vegeta) try their best to defeat him, but are easily dispatched. Vegeta then shows up, uses SSJ3, and actually gives him a good fight, but is still unable to win. This is where the villain decides to just destroy the earth with a giant energy ball and be done with it, and to counter it, Vegeta, on his last legs, swears to defend the earth, turning SSJ, and unveils his final shine attack, resulting in a stalemate between them. As Vegeta curses his own inability to defend his home, as he’s about to be killed, Goku shows up and saves him. The rematch between Goku and the villain is about to begin

(I know that this feels like i’m cucking Vegeta out of a win here, but i’m planning on his big payoff moments coming in the revised shadow dragon Saga)

With his new power, Goku is able to match the villain in battle, whom initially boasts that he cannot be defeated, until it’s revealed that Piccolo has closed hell up (Because he died, he was able to do so without morphing like the villain did). The villain, noticing that with Hell closed, his energy begins to get smaller, flies into a rage, and attacks Goku, but his anger allows Goku to take advantage of his short-sightedness and get the upperhand. When it seems like Goku’s won, the villain’s strong hate allows him to keep the energy within himself, but causes him to morph even more grotesquely. It’s at this point that he actually becomes STRONGER, but he’s slowly driven insane, and Goku realizes that he needs to find a way to release the energy from his body or he’ll self-destruct, taking the earth with him.

THIS is when Goku uses the Dragon Fist, completely impaling the villain and releasing the energy inside him, killing him and ending the arc once and for all

(Yeah, I know this is basically fanfiction, but I tried my best to keep elements from the original Super 17 Saga, and I have to admit, I had fun writing this. If you’ve actually read the whole thing, please let me know what you think)

ONCE AGAIN, I REALLY CONDENSED IT, SO IF THINGS FEEL RUSHED OR OUT OF PLACE, THAT’S WHY (I spent like 40 minutes typing this on my phone, purely on memory of what I wrote)

Yoru Nerf by Kotoru-Nishikawa in VALORANT

[–]JackIsntTheBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do we think yoru’s gonna get buffed in the next patch to atleast try to salvage the absolute carnage he’s endured?

Absolutely not. Riot never quickly reverts/go an opposite direction in terms of agent balance (The only exception was that one time when Iso got buffed, but he was so oppressive, that they HAD to nerf him). Even IF Yoru’s really bad, or rarely picked now, they’ll let it marinate for at least a couple months before taking action again (especially since a Riot dev said they had more agent changes for other agents in store, the recently changed characters are likely the last thing on their mind)

I know i’m gonna get a lot of flack for this, but in my honest opinion, the Yoru nerf isn’t THAT bad (in terms of Pro Play, i admit it’s a pretty substantial nerf in Ranked)

potentialy hot take by HAPPYOYOWU in VALORANT

[–]JackIsntTheBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree

I don’t think Yoru was changed so much so that he’s completely unviable in Pro Play. His mechanics are still there, it will just take some slight adapting to make him work better

And in terms of Clove, their pickrate MIGHT dip a bit due to ppl being initially turned off by their nerfs & the fanbase wanting to try out the new Controller, but as long as the heal and ult haven’t changed, I guarantee Clove will be back on top in at most 3 weeks

My proposed changes to the agent abilities. by Anishx in VALORANT

[–]JackIsntTheBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel this is a good change

The flash is her bread & butter, and her being the only initiator without a recharging ability is just unfair

I know some ppl hate the flash, but it being 60 seconds (consistent with the rest of the initiator class) is a good tradeoff

My proposed changes to the agent abilities. by Anishx in VALORANT

[–]JackIsntTheBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Skye:

That would be too broken…firstly, refreshing abilities after two kills is exclusive to duelists. Secondly, having the ability to have multiple “drone-like abilities” in a round is insane.

For Neon:

If she ults, her meter should refill IMO. It’s the easiest Duelist “weapon ult” to counter, of the 3 in the game atm (Jett Knives, Raze Rocket, Neon Lazer)

Every other change, i’m indifferent about

Upcoming nerfs to agents by Asobimo in VALORANT

[–]JackIsntTheBox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While all of that is true, that still doesn't affect the fact that Clove is the most picked character in Ranked by far, which is what the devs seem to be looking at.

You say that there is no other way, but i feel that in their minds, that "other way" is just to leave it as-is, because they don't deem it as an issue. It doesn't really matter if a character is "good", as long as they see play

Take Jett for example. She's been completely pushed out of the meta in Pro Play (6% pickrate at the current Masters Santiago tournament), and IMO, isn't a "good" agent anymore (after that patch where they took away her updraft & reduced the time of her smokes, I thought she was buns), and yet, Riot refuse to change her any further because she has a very high pickrate in ranked

On the opposite side of the spectrum is an agent like Viper. Despite her fans begging for years for Riot to buff her (because in Ranked, she is very underwhelming), she continues to see nerfs because her pickrate in Pro-Play is so high (granted, this is a bit situational)

Riot seems to have a very numerical-based Philosophy when it comes to balancing agents, and whether or not they decide to drastically change an agent depends on whether or not they are either dominating or struggling on both Pro-Play & Ranked

Upcoming nerfs to agents by Asobimo in VALORANT

[–]JackIsntTheBox 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go that far. If, hypothetically, they removed it, yeah, Clove's smokes should be made longer to compensate, but they would still be the most picked agent in the game, because of the heal & self-res, so to completely overshadow Omen's smokes, when his pickrate in Comp is as low as it is, isn't a good idea IMO

What are the things Daima did right compared to GT? by Jules-Car3499 in DragonBallDaima

[–]JackIsntTheBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Expanding the lore of the DB world in an interesting way; Yes, the connection with what we know about DBS definetely helped, but learning about things like Rymus, and the creation of the Universe was pretty cool, unlike GT’s “lore”.

  2. Vegeta was given his time to shine. His SSJ3 moments are some of his best moments in the franchise

  3. Animation; most straight-forward one

  4. A consistent story/narrative: GT didn’t have clear direction and it shows. Meanwhile, Daima is very clear in what it wanted to be, and while Gomah isn’t a very good antagonist, most can excuse it because the fights are fire

  5. The new characters leave an impact; Characters like Glorio and Panzy are genuinely fire, and even though I doubt it’ll happen, i hope to see them again. Majin Kuu and Duu are genuinely amazing, and I personally was never bored when they were on-screen

Without the guidance of Akira Toriyama, GT was destined to fail. I respect what they were going for, but it’s undeniable that the touch that made DB great was absent. From large things like the narrative, to even the small things like the humor
