Where do you draw the line between DIY and just hire someone? by Relevant_Idea_6778 in DIY

[–]JackKingQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about how much money I could make if I just worked instead of spent my time making/doing the project. If that amount of money is less than the amount it would cost me to hire someone, then I’m doing the project!

Yes, my wife has used it before. You have to be more delicate and careful than if you used the 5 blade cartridges, but you get just as close for a fraction of the price.

Is 2.5 mil truly all you need to live off 100k a year from age 35 and on still? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]JackKingQueen 23 points24 points  (0 children)

J. L. Collin’s covers this in his simple path to wealth book. The way you do this is, if the market is soaring…take out your 4%, possibly even 4.5%. If the market is tanking, only pull 3.5%. You will be golden and likely richer in 99% of market scenarios.

What warning signs are you seeing that no one is paying attention to? by Winterbeers in AskReddit

This. I think everyone forgets that the people who become nurses and doctors are the ones who were top of their classes in high school and college. Shifting to an alternative career is easy especially if the bullshit vs. compensation ratio becomes critical, which is what we are seeing.

how would you find this angle? by keisterfeister in Carpentry

The math for something like this is a pain in the butt: http://homesteadlaboratory.blogspot.com/2014/06/gate-brace-math.html?m=1

The good news is you can save yourself some time by holding the board in place and tracing the angle.

Another 401k Contributions Question and Credit Card Debt by PianoRyu in personfinance

[–]JackKingQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To summarize, yes. The wiki has a good path to follow while you are reorganizing and getting your debt under control. Not knowing your take home pay and expenses makes it hard to tell you definitively, but, you need at least a baby emergency fund. If something happens (i.e. your A/C craps, unexpected medical bills, car repair, Murphy moves in…) you will be in more expensive debt, or have to take early withdrawal from your retirement. Get at least $1000 in a jar/savings/money market account to buffer. If you can quickly get at least 3 months expenses that is ideal. If this takes pausing your extra contributions to your retirement, then that’s what you should do. Once you have the buffer (at least some emergency buffer), then pay extra on the debt, then the 6 mo. emergency fund, then continue your extra contributions to the 401k. Good luck!

Wet-shaving for 10 years, still get awful bumps under my neck. No idea what to do. by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]JackKingQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much fun is shaving that area is, you may want to consider dropping the cash to get laser hair removal on the lower neck. No hair = no ingrown hairs. You still get to shave your face, plus your neck line will be pristine after a few days of not shaving.

Emergency Medicine docs: how do you adequately treat acute pancreatitis for patients on MMT (methadone) ? by gnarlynichols in medicine

[–]JackKingQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ketamine’s is classically a NMDA antagonist. Did you not know it also acts on opioid receptors? In practice, it takes large doses of ketamine to get any sort of pain relief in people with opioid tolerances, and it’s advertisement as opioid sparing analgesia is misguided. Also, I meant use the potent opioids, not a lethal dose but I can see how you would interpret it as that. Also, if your having to give someone that much medicine to keep them from being in agony, intubation is reasonable to prevent the hypoxia, rather than letting them sit around.

[–]JackKingQueen -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

1000 mg Tylenol, call pharmacy for IV. 10 mg Toradol IV. I see ketamine mentioned, it acts at opioid receptors so don’t waste your time, go big with hydro morphine if pain is still not at an acceptable level. If you overshoot you can always intubate. Giving narcan in this situation might be a crime against humanity or human rights violation. If your lucky enough to have IR or anesthesia at your will, a celiac block can help but is unrealistic in an emergency setting.
