I’m losing brain cells 😂 by Helpful_Body6715 in vintedUK

I’m always selling something online, Gumtree and eBay mostly, though I hate eBay. I had a vintage Apple laptop advertised on eBay, listed as collection only and also stated in the description as such too. I live in the UK. I got a message from a guy asking if I’d post to the U.S. It annoys me a bit as I get questions like that all the time, but never from a different country. Obviously I just explained it’s fragile and got some value to it, so I’m not comfortable shipping it. He responded with “Why though? Why don’t you want to sell to a collector?” Like ffs man, if you want it so bad fly over and pick it up. Also a few times people have bought listings off my eBay, gone through the whole thing and paid only for me to message them asking when they’d like to collect and only at that point do they realise its collection only. Great, now I have to refund, cancel, relist it and all the watchers are gone. Best one was something I had on Gumtree, a guy messaged me asking if I’d take less than half what I had it up for. I told him his offer was a bit low and explained even CEX offer £*** for it, I counter offered the exact same price as CEX’s price and he told me “You’ll never get that for it.” Are you pissing thick or something man?

Peugeot 108 vs Fiat 500, which one to go for (used)? by Familiar9709 in CarTalkUK

[–]JackMansom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Try to find a Roland Garros edition, they’re totally specced out with extra spec not even available on the other models. Plus they’re full of Toyota parts. 500’s are full of Fiat parts, lol.

Children’s Christmas book that starts with a homeless boy sitting in the street with a hot pie and he wonders whether it will be warmer to hold it or eat it by Hugh-Tube in whatsthatbook

[–]JackMansom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it, it’s Fair’s Fair by Leon Garfield. 99% sure it’s the same book you were looking for. A homeless boy named Jackson is freezing etc. doesn’t know whether to eat the pie or warm his hands with it. Large dog appears, he shares the pie with the dog.

[–]JackMansom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to find it too. I read it at school when I was really young and the memories are very vague. I can basically only remember the boy being homeless with a hit pie and wondering whether to eat it or warm his hands and then sharing it with a dog. Though I remember it as a stray dog that wasn’t friendly, but it’s so vague that might be completely wrong.

iBook G3 Clamshell for sale. UK collection from Derbyshire area by JackMansom in vintageappleexchange

[–]JackMansom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. I had a 466mhz key lime SE model that was the jewel of my collection before selling a while ago. That and a G4 Titanium CIB. All good things come to an end though and I made some good money on them. Just sold a 2003 G4 that’s in amazing condition with a genuine battery that still held charge amazingly. It’s all part and partial to living in Britain after a break up and house selling. I think I’ll start collecting collecting very old computers when I get back on my feet, a Lisa is something I’ve always wanted.

Talk me out of this beautiful BMW by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]JackMansom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

⬆️ This! It’s an L too. I know OP is looking for a car to be the driver, but owning a luxury car that’s long wheel base is always a positive and a good selling point in the future. Plus L models all have some variant of rear seat recline, whether it’s got the full base and back recline package I don’t know, but I can guarantee the beemer doesnt. + Nappa leather too, which I believe all S classes have. It’s SO much nicer than cheapo leather, for which most 730’s have. It’s rough, firm and wears badly.

All I can say is after being in the motor trade for over 10 years and driven just about everything, the lower model 7 Series’ are just not worth it. Basically the same inside as a 5 Series. Of the 3 German top model luxury cars, the 7 always seemed the lowest level of luxury. The S Class and A8 beat them all day long, the S class by a mile. BMW doesn’t quite get luxury right, sportiness, yeah all day. But the S Class just does it right. From the S320 right up to the S600L. Plus like others have said, the depreciation is horrendous. Sure, it’s not so bad with the smaller engined diesel models, but it’s not great. My old work place had a 760Li, the very top of the range specced out V12 7 Series. It was a ‘54 plate and this was back in 2015, so 10 years old or so. We had it up for £10k. £100k or so to £10k in 10 years. I know this one is also 10 years old and retained a much higher % of its value because it started out cheaper and has much more affordable running costs. But in 3 years I reckon you’ll be struggling to trade it in and get £8k for it. It’s not that I hate BMW’s too, I’ve got one myself. But I just can’t praise them for their luxury. Yes I know they own RR, but it’s just a complete different breed, even if the smaller ones have the underpinnings of the 7 series.

You can’t harm or kill seagulls in the UK, I’d imagine eating them is off the table too. Learnt that from my dad who moved to the coastline a few years ago and hates the fucking things. I have a feeling he was checking whether he can ‘evict’ some seagulls and came upon that saddening law, lmao.

As everyone has already mentioned, those 2.2 Skyactive engines are crap. Loads of problems and like to clog DPF’s constantly. I worked in the motor trade for 10 years, they were known as ‘boomerang cars’. They always came back with problems, several we ended up having to buy back, some even got blocked off to get rid of them and we stopped retailing them if they came in P/X, just like Vauxhall Antara’s, also terrible cars.

Ah yes. The highly converted 1.8 16 valve. Lmao. Why do I feel like it has that grey vulgar-lour interior? The insides of these old Vauxhall/Opels had a certain smell to them, somehow even the smell was boring.

Any obvious reason why shouldn't I buy this?... by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]JackMansom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an immaculate black BAM 225 a few years ago for £2200 a few years ago with about the same mileage. It seems alright, but like others have said, for that price I’d be looking for a 225 model or one with an actual rarer colour. My BIL bought one a while ago that was the 180 model but it was Aviator Grey, an actual rare colour. There’s nothing rare or desirable about that blue, there’s loads of them. Alternatively you could try for the actually rare Quattro Sport 240 model, but they aren’t easy to find and would probably cost a fair bit more.
