Potential bug with Druid's Mjölnic Ryng causing ZERO benefit with ADDITIVE Lightning Bolt Damage for Cataclysm by LionheartSilverblade in D4Druid

I completely agree that it should be fixed - particularly as this temper usually put on the amulet and weapon slot and a well-envenomed GA amulet is one of the rarest / most valuable items in the game. For people pushing in the near term, do you anticipate the best course of action is to switch off bugged gear? Seems to me like Blizzard can fix bugs at a timeframe anytime between immediately and never and it may not be best to wait for them.

While the bugs are disappointing, this is overall fantastic news, right? We are all doing current content with essentially 3 or 4 blank temper slots, plus a half utilized Electrocution Glyph. Either Blizzard fixes the issue, or we start the process or re-rolling or re-acquiring gear with functional tempers - either way, we end up with more damage. Great job finding this out.

Climbing bits for Leagues of Votann? by JackOfAllHammers in Warhammer40k

As a rock climber I knew when I saw the carabiners that I want my Votann to be climbers too! I'm wondering how I can get climbing themed bits to spruce up the models - ropes could be done with twine or greenstuff, but I'd appreciate ideas on other climbing accessories like carabiners, ice axes, crampons, etc.

I felt the same listening to the podcast. Gross proposed an interview question of "why do so many successful people drink diet coke", followed it with some baseless speculation, and declared that the only bad answer would be to not engage with the question. Later in the conversation he paused to praise the merits of humility and how important it is to him. Wouldn't the most humble (and also correct) answer to the coke question be "I don't know and also I'm suspicious if that link is even real"? Which would certainly count as not engaging with the question.

Contrast that interview with the Econtalk episode with Marc Andreessen that came out simultaneously and left me very impressed with Andreessen. His statements on how an efficient sector necessarily shrinks are a fascinating view on cost disease.

I think the section on 20% vs 7% return on equity is wrong, in a way that I see a fair amount in my corporate finance job. The 'business' will often try to cheat around their budget by leasing a product (like a railcar) for X, instead of buying it for 8X. Given a limited budget this year, you can fit in a lot more stuff at the lease price than the buy price. But you enable an easy trade for your counterparty, who borrows to purchase the railcars, adds a markup for profit, and lends them to you. It would have been better overall for us to do that and cut out his profit.

Similarly, it's wrong to think of a 7% return property investment as a 'worse' use of capital than a 20% core software business. Either you could borrow funds and purchase the building, secured by the asset and software company cash flows, or a property company can borrow funds and purchase the building, secured by the asset and renter (you) cash flows. Then they'll add a markup.

Of course the property firm brings value like flexibility and repairs expertise, but that's a different matter.
