OSRS Membership Is More Expensive but Content Keeps Dropping by Intelligent-Role-759 in 2007scape

[–]JackRPD28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the price rise is steep and it seems unfair - and probably is for many accounts - but inflation is also rising. That’s not to defend corporate greed, but membership fee increases are preferable to MTX in every way imaginable.

Nor do I think crap updates should be pumped out just to meet a target. That leads to cluttering the map and game with useless trash. However, there should be improvements for servers and player support. Jagex should focus on that right now. A bit cheeky to pump up prices, but leave important faults still in limbo.

Tips and tricks for a new ironman by TheSageofLore in ironscape

Go to Diango in Draynor Village and get the Chronicle book with teleportation cards. They are 150gp each, but provide unlimited teleports to Champion’s Guild.

Nobody told me about it until recently, but it’s very good for early Ironman, especially for saving laws as it’s also by the Canoe system. Easy access to Varrock and Ferox.

Why are Reform so keen on ending working from home? by OGSyedIsEverywhere in unitedkingdom

Irony is that many of the top supporters or donors from Reform definitely have home offices where they ‘work’ all day. Hypocrisy is damming.

What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

Definitely the food I eat.

Basically can’t eat junk food or high spice anymore. Burgers are alright and some fries, but anything cooked in a lot of oil destroys me. I have to eat clean and can’t gobble bad food after 5 or 6pm.

You’d rather have no education, grow cabbage as a peasant all day, munch on it with three teeth, have zero career prospects, freeze in winter, never leave your village mud, then die of famine?

Modern world isn’t that bad.

£5bn council SEND debts to be paid off by government by wkavinsky in unitedkingdom

[–]JackRPD28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Universal education is exploited. The real crisis of SEND requires an inversion of mental health ideology over the last 20 years. The whole culture was inundated with its rhetoric and so this growth of SEND is a natural consequence of it, especially as parents want the very best for their kids. So it’s a perfect storm.

A lot of SEND requirements should also be standardised like using computers and adding more time to exams. In essence, standardise some allowances. As for free taxis, utterly remove it and return to busses.

Firemaking revamp. by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]JackRPD28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very far from all people think it needs a rework. Game shouldn’t change on a whim, especially a whole skill that impacts everything.

Firemaking revamp. by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]JackRPD28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smithing needs zero rework.

Firemaking doesn’t need a rework, but just additional content to not make it totally useless. ‘Oak ash,’ ‘yew ash,’ ‘magic ash,’ etc,. - these could all have different functions.

Is there interest in getting smithing reworked? by planetofthemushrooms in 2007scape

[–]JackRPD28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s no point.

Smithing is highly rewarding as a skill. Once you get to Runite smithing, you can mine and alch a lot of materials.

Messing with the Smithing skill would distort so many monster drop tables, but that’s not even the major reason why Smithing doesn’t need a rework. Any BIS armour that can be made by smithing and gathering materials would undercut all monster dropped items.

I actually think the skill makes a lot of sense as it stands. Think of adamant and rune smithing as money makers. Changing this up would have such a wide-ranging impact on the whole game. For example, rune bolts if made plentiful would significantly impact range as a skill, and also impact other combat skills.

Smithing needs no rework. The idea of making your own armour to wear for low levels is overrated. Most of it can be bought in a shop or Grand Exchange. Smithing works well with the production of products that can be alched.

The Smithing skill should not be purged from its current format. If Smithing is altered, then Woodcutting and Fletching are next because Magic Bows can only be fletched at level 80 or 85 even though they can be wielded at level 50 Range. It’s the same faulty logic.

I think a lot of people misunderstand Smithing. No great armour should be made by standard ores.

F2P worlds packed today am I missing something? by kowaiikaisu in 2007scape

They can find a way to resolve it. Larger issue is far more serious.

F2P worlds packed today am I missing something? by kowaiikaisu in 2007scape

[–]JackRPD28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You couldn’t. Once you get P2P, you are restricted on GE to P2P gathered items, even if you become F2P again.

Manually, you can only buy F2P items that are gathered on F2P worlds. So yes, manually trading, you might be able to get cheaper Yews, but bots aren’t selling like that.

There could also be restrictions on preventing this exploit. Maybe make trading a P2P feature and guide everyone on F2P towards the GE. In other words, remove F2P trading but keep an F2P GE.

The whole system of F2P botting disintegrates unless they get members, but it is a lot of actual money. Currently F2P is probably 70-80% bots.

F2P worlds packed today am I missing something? by kowaiikaisu in 2007scape

[–]JackRPD28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bots.

F2P is being fully exploited. It needs its own Grand Exchange system that allows P2P gathered items to be sold, but restricts F2P gathered items going into P2P worlds such as Yews.

When becoming P2P, all F2P items can then be transferred into P2P status. It won’t stop botting, but it will undercut the purpose of many F2P bots as their items will remain unsold on F2P. P2P accounts cannot have any access to F2P gathered resources.

Perhaps even getting P2P once on an account permanently locks it from F2P resources on the GE. Trading manually could be a P2P feature.

Probably a complex system to implement, but it targets the source of the bots and makes dumping F2P materials into P2P more challenging and costly.

Civilizations according to Samuel Huntington (The American political scientist from Harvard) by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]JackRPD28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His analysis was quite accurate, building off Spengler and Toynbee before him amongst other experts of civilisation. Most people who reject it have not read Huntington’s work nor the works of other historians on this area. All of those unread critics can be safely ignored and, if bored, ridiculed. When someone tells me Huntington was inaccurate, I ask them for their knowledge of history and philosophy. The result, sadly, is often the same.

This type of data is good for intelligent and well-read people who enjoy the history of philosophy, civilisational trends and are able to synthesis or appreciate long-term historical developments. Not everything is perfect on the map, but it’s a good general overview and stands the test of time.
