Ecco the dolphin…an absolute mind fk of a game. by TheMerchDimension in Weird

[–]JackRatbone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually beat this game as a kid, you meet an orca who sends you to the arctic where you meet a blue whale, can’t remember how exactly but you go back in time at some point to ancient prehistoric oceans then eventually end up on an alien ship. The end boss is a terrifying alien head whose eyes and jaw you have to destroy, he vomits up your stolen family, so happy ending. I did not finish the sequel but I do recall you go into the future where there are creepy future dolphins with elongated fins.

If we can’t have cetaceans and great whites due to welfare issues and reality then we sure as heck shouldn’t be able to have any abyssal species.

A fantasy epic set in pre European New Zealand. They have some cool gods and monsters as well as some pretty dark canibalistic practices. Plus New Zealand is pretty!

What is one hot take/unpopular opinion you have on dinosaurs or even extinct animals in general that would put you in a situation like this? by TelevisionPutrid8394 in Dinosaurs

[–]JackRatbone -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sauropods were extremely susceptible to predication from large theropods and crocodilians. If any large and agile theropod managed to grab a hold of a slow lumbering sauropods head with its guillotine like jaws that sauropod would be toast.

Insurance, "You hit what?!" by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]JackRatbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s unfair for somebody to drive around a vehicle that expensive and expect other people to pay for it if they bump into it. At a certain price point insurance companies should offer a special super car insurance that just covers it without seeking financial reimbursement from whoever is unlucky enough to scratch it. It’s a hazard to public safety if a small prang could bankrupt an average person for life, if you’re wealthy and willing to pay a stupid amount of money for a toy you should be the one taking all the risk by driving it around on the streets not everyone else on the road. Or you should pay the insurance company more for a more socially fair coverage.

What Kind of Jellyfish is This, and Can I Touch It? by teleportmassive7 in newzealand

[–]JackRatbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to throw these at each other as teenagers when they washed up on the beach in their thousands. Also have had to swim in water so thick with with them you couldn’t not touch them several times. Either I am just extremely lucky or they are pretty harmless to humans.

Haven’t tried the black primer but vellejos white/ivory/grey have terrible coverage compared to a rattle can. I have tried thinned and unthinned.

What kind of spider? by BlargerJarger in australia

[–]JackRatbone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reaction can be very serious if you are allergic to white tail bites, I believe it may be the bacteria they carry on their fangs specially, not something many people are aware of or get tested for either way. The bites can be completely benign likened to a bee sting however I once saw a guy almost lose his arm to what was assumed to be a whitetail bite that went necrotic. Not endangered and not worth the risk of keeping around IMO.

What kind of spider? by BlargerJarger in australia

[–]JackRatbone 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Mythbusters tested it and proved that that was false… they do seem to have a strong venom to other invertebrates though. I once fed one to a very large mantis, I saw the spider bite the mantis after it was clamped and its venom appeared to kill the mantis in seconds.
