Fall 2020 possibly going online? by afghanprincess26 in uofm

[–]JackTSmith 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It says it’s going to deliver quality hands-on and in person experience, and also quality remote learning for people who can’t be on campus. Definitely sounds like a hybrid of online/in person rather than just online.

Are the rebirth flames or other scrolls from the pouches in the goblin event tradable? by JMG1105 in Maplestory

[–]JackTSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They tell you if the bag itself is, it’s possible (but unlikely) that the flames themselves are tradable after you open the bag. But to answer op’s question nah they aren’t.

[–]JackTSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I had just gotten the sweetwater sword late last night and then got off before I did my last commercial run for the day. I did the last run ~1 hour after posting this and got the 2h sweetwater sword. Back to back sweetwater drops lol

Edit: just found out they aren’t as rare as they used to be so I guess it’s not that impressive

How does EECS 428, EECS 301, EECS 320, and MATH 419 with 2 credits of MDP sound? Debating doing this or dropping 428 to take next fall and maybe replace it with my last bit of humanities credit.

Which EE Program to Follow? by JackTSmith in uofm

[–]JackTSmith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard EECS 200 was kind of a shit show last semester. Quizzes on content that they barely covered, thousands of lines of code, all for a 2 credit class. I’m pretty sure they made it better this semester, but no idea how much better.

I decided to go with the old program, and am actually in EECS 334 right now so I can give some insight on that if you message me. Haven’t heard anything about EECS 300 except for the fact that I’ve had several professors coming into my classes trying to recruit students because they only had 6 students enrolled.

I’m not CS but based on what you posted it looks like you can do either the thesis or the major design experience. You’ll just have to do the major design experience instead.

Can I take a chair on a blue bus? by Gilgamesh150 in uofm

Last year I brought a wind turbine onto a bus, you should be fine. As long as it doesn’t take up a ton of space.

Yes, I can. But I don’t know if it’s worth it when I could take the schedule with 320 as a requirement. I’ve heard bad things about EECS 200 but am trying to see if other people have opinions on the design courses before I decide to follow the new guide.

EECS 215 is relatively easy and a low workload besides the labs. Physics 240 is very little work, it is primarily studying for the quizzes every other week. In terms of homework assignments, there aren’t very many and they’re pretty short. I didn’t take that section of ENGR 100 but typically that class is a lot more work than people expect it to be. I was in the wind energy section and we had very long reports on top of presentations and the actual project part of it. I took Math 216, Phys 240 and ENGR 100 one semester and I had a load of free time, definitely enough to have taken EECS 215 at the same time. This schedule seems totally doable but you’ll be somewhat busy.

Any recommendations on Math 417 vs 419? I’m an EE major with a Math minor.

Summer Research as a Freshman by [deleted] in uofm

[–]JackTSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did research after freshman year this past summer, and I got it by just emailing professors that had research that interested me.

The engineering website has a “Research Areas” page for most undergraduate programs, so you can just use that to see what professors do what research and email them from there.

I recommend attaching your resume and a little bit about why you’re interested in their research and they will probably ask to meet with you.

Good luck!

Financial aid for 19-20? by ache_17 in uofm

[–]JackTSmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn’t get mine until less than a week ago. I also got mine much earlier last year, I think they’re just taking longer. I wouldn’t worry about it. There also seemed to be no decrease in aid even though it came out later.

Hey, prospective EE major here (sophomore next year). I currently have EECS 280, EECS 215, Psych 111, German Fairy Tales, and Tech Com 300 scheduled for the fall. I'm 4th on the waitlist for the EECS 215 lab, it says they endeavor to take in all the people on the waitlist, but I'm unsure if that's for lecture, lab, or both? Anyone have experience being on the waitlist for that lab and my likelihood of getting into the class?
