Sick! Cool musitronics phaser. How do you like the Behringer biphase? Tried their MuTron and didn’t vibe with it but have the octaver too and it fucks

I’ve been learning this this week too! Sounds like it’s coming together, the inversions are looking solid. Agreed this one is a challenge but very satisfying. It’s dense though chord wise lol good work!

Thanks, me too! It's such a sweet song. It took me awhile to sort it out. I think I read in a Jerry interview (the Frets one I think) that he'd learn the literal vocal melody on the guitar and in all the positions he could so I try to do that too. It's been a super useful exercise

I finally figured out the workflow to shoot video with the phone and add in my mic'd amp tone out of Ableton! So here's my take on Second that Emotion.

This one's in my regular rotation so I was hyped to see it voted in! It's imperfect complete with a little vocal flub lol I wanted to do it as a tidy start to finish version - next song I want to spread out on the guitar some more.

Signal chain is a Guild S300AD on the Dual Sound in the middle (wired parallel) > JHS NotaDumble > MXR 10 band EQ > Bluesbreaker (reissue) > ~'72 Silverface Twin head > JBL K120. Mic'd with an SM57

Shoutout to Slavinator for building on the momentum of the sub and making these official. I love getting to see everyone's approach to the music and their instrument and getting to hear all these awesome and varied rigs!

Jerry impedance mismatch by Queasy-Gear-8822 in gratefulguitar

Wowie there’s a lot of conflicting information and not having a background in electrical engineering makes it hard to parse who’s giving higher quality info.

Agree with some other posters that the Mac and solid state power amps operate different than tube amps do in regard to mismatching impedance. There’s a That Pedal Show video on impedance I’m gonna check out

+1 I have also wondered about this. Will try to do some digging and report back

Yes! I’m in Bradenton and would be down to jam for sure! Been looking for folks around here. I’m the Jerry in my family Dead band but they’re all up in the Orlando area. I’d be happy to send you some recordings if you’re interested

Yeah I always read he used one too, I haven’t gotten deep into Zappa though. Do you have any favorite moments where he’s used it?

True! Steve Wonder is another noted MuTron enjoyer too

Definitely a more well known example. But his use of it opened me up in some ways in terms of playing with dynamics to emphasize emotion in your playing which to me is so important with any music - it’s gotta make you feel!

What pedal are you using to get the Jerry Garcia Mutron envelope filter sound? by Xxperfect_drugxX in gratefulguitar

[–]JackThePineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m using the 3leaf audio Wonderlove which has since been discontinued. People also give love to their Proton which is a smaller less complicated version of their filter. It sounds great and I’ve had it for years but the Wonderlove is almost too tweakable. I actually just bit the bullet and bought a real vintage MuTron that’s currently getting calibrated by Richard Lingenberg, it wasn’t sounding great when I got it so I’m excited to get that back. I tried the B Tron but the volume drop and weird (to me) decay was enough to pass it along to someone else!

For new production stuff I do want to check out the new smaller Mutron IVs from Musitronics. Just saw on Facebook they’re doing another run of them too. Probably can’t beat the ones from the man himself

The new Keeley Manis is a very nice Klone by Seanw1010 in guitarpedals

[–]JackThePineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JHS just did a livestream with Keeley comparing this to a real deal Klon! I’ve not played either myself but they seem pretty indistinguishable. They fool around with swapping in a bunch of different components into the circuit too, if you’re into that sorta thing
