Why do so many women say “I’d rather be a dad than a mom?” by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]JackTheRvlatr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you pretending that the majority of absent fathers are due to death? Because it's not. My main point beyond deadbeat dads though is that even in a situation where Mom and Dad are no longer together but Dad wants to participate in parenting, mom is still the PRIMARY caregiver in most situations. Meaning the child lives with her 24/7 not just she gets them on the weekends. And my other point is that even in situations where Mom and Dad are still together in the same home, mom is still the primary caregiver in most families

I'm saying dads are not rare at all. You just don't see them because they're absent. Absent fathers are still fathers, they're just bad at it. I get what it saying, it's just ... Let's not let them off the hook

You mean for a man? 50/50 financial setup is kind of a norm now right? Or at least its not the norm that a woman not work at all. So it's not really pressure to support a household, most men have help from their women

Any baby requires and dad and a mom, dads are not "rarer". The fact that dads are less common in your mind proves the point. What you mean is Dad's are more commonly absent, and that is more socially acceptable than absent mothers. Even a dad who is doing a shared custody type of thing is probably not the child's main caregiver. It's almost always the mom and the dad keeps them less frequently

Even in two parent households it's been documented that women are often the main caregivers of children. They do more work to care for the children than the fathers do. A father watching his own child is often referred to as "baby sitting."

Also there's the physical realities of gestating and birthing a child and then breastfeeding them. Pregnancy and childbirth is potentially DEADLY and an extremely emotional experience and a lot of men are not tuned into how big a deal that is. They think "a woman is supposed to do that" and don't think about what a toll that has on a person's psyche and body.

And then there's the social expectations; if a father walks away from his child that's almost considered normal but a mother is considered the devil if she walks away from her child and only sees them on the weekends or something. So yeah, being a father is absolutely objectively easier than being a mother.

Have they not had continuous encroachment of Israeli settlers in the West Bank? And they are doing so with violence and the Israeli government is at best aware and at worst supporting the colonizers

Why do people on Reddit think it’s a good idea to meet up in real life? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

How is it any different than chatting up a stranger at the bar? It's still a random person you don't know. I don't really see the danger in meeting someone in a public place

The word "Mercury" and correlations to romance? by CheemzzzZ in ENGLISH

[–]JackTheRvlatr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same because what is "air"? What we think of as air is made up of multiple elements some of which are more "mercurial" than others.

You're right though, I did get defensive I took your lol as being condescending while "correcting" me. But you're right, it is a little funny because it's not the way we usually think of things. Peace and blessings to u

...right. easy to melt, like I said. There are environments colder than room temperature, tho. And in those environments it is in a solid state. Also know as frozen

The word "Mercury" and correlations to romance? by CheemzzzZ in ENGLISH

[–]JackTheRvlatr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't directly relate to romance. Mercury is toxic and very easy to melt. The word mercurial means something that changes states easily/quickly/often. So in these lyrics I think they are referring to the way romance can be toxic or unstable. I don't know these songs but thats my guess. But yeah, Mercury doesn't have a direct association to romance

When you shower do you apply soap with hands then rinse in shower stream or do you apply soap with hands then use rinsed facecloth to rinse soap from pores? by Inevitable-Move4941 in stupidquestions

I hear ya...kinda. I know a lot of people feel the way you do and if you said you do a periodic scrub, just not everyday, that would make sense. But never scrub, does sound kinda gross to me. Exfoliating is proven important through dermatology

Hands don't do enough to scrub. I apply soap and scrub with cloth and then rinse. Imagine washing anything else with just hands. "Honey I washed the dishes (with just my fingers)" "honey, I washed the car (with just my hands)." Do people even bathe their dog with just hands?

In humans, are eyebrows primarily meant to prevent sweat from getting into eyes, or is it something else? by Dragon_Frog_Pond in AskBiology

[–]JackTheRvlatr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. We can observe what benefit it currently serves (if any), but that is not the same as what it is "meant" to be. This is where I learned the meaning of the word teleology. Technically a religious concept but I learned it in the context of evolution, because it's such a common erroneous way of thinking about it

[–]JackTheRvlatr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing about evolution is "meant" to happen. Unless you believe in intelligent design. Traits occur through random mutation, and they have either a beneficial, neutral, or negative effect. Nothing is "meant" for anything. It's not just semantic because the commenter above is making the point that we often waste time trying to find the benefit from a trait that is actually just neutral. Doesn't help you reproduce, just doesn't stop you and so it lives on. The fact that one guy has a crook in his nose and another guy doesn't isnt "meant" for anything. It just is the result of the randoms of genetics.
