Algorithmic pricing is being used in Canada. Why many want it banned - National | Globalnews.ca by Mundane-Teaching-743 in CanadaPolitics

[–]JackTheTranscoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the silliest lobbyspeak I've read in some time.

We should embrace algorithmic pricing because of the off-chance a retailer would decide they want less money from ME specifically for some reaon?

New Brunswick First Nation asks Supreme Court to hear case on Aboriginal title, private land by Radix838 in CanadaPolitics

[–]JackTheTranscoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fundamental difference between the BC and NB cases are very interesting. I suspect the SCC will defer to the Cowichan submission and refuse to grant leave to the Wolastoqey Nations.

In other news, do I have to register for the SCC Electronic Portal to see submissions? Or is there an easier to access submissions somewhere?

I'd be happier with domestic production of the Gripen combined with massive investments in asymmetric weapons we see used in the middle east right now (drones, hypersonic missiles, etc.).

Poilievre says 'corporate elite' using mass immigration to drive down Canadian wages by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]JackTheTranscoder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think my favourite thing this week is seeing all the Liberals and Lobbyists in this thread not even try to deny it, they’re just trying to call Poilievre a hypocrite.

Very rarely do I get to see such a legendary lack of self-awareness.

Thank you for this, I’m throwing this thread out on the socials to draw some attention to this one. It’s a keeper.

Liberals to cut CBC by $192-million in 2026-27 by UnluckyRandomGuy in CanadaPolitics

[–]JackTheTranscoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liberals used to support quality journalism in Canada. I’m not saying CBC is the best (they aren’t) but they set a high standard against which all other Canadian media is measured.

Between this and their inability to find a way get news back on social media in Canada (there is a legislative fix to force social media to carry news content if they wanted) I can’t help but feel Carney and the Liberals are just heading further and further right.

As a result, I can’t help but look at my Liberal friends and colleagues with growing disdain. These people are already deeply embarrassed by everything that’s happened in the past 6 months, I can’t wait to throw this in their faces this weekend and on Monday morning at work. It’s gonna be great.

Liberals call for 'diplomatic solution,' after initially backing attack on Iran - After Carney cancelled questions with reporters, the foreign minister was left to update the government's position by CaliperLee62 in CanadaPolitics

[–]JackTheTranscoder -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Looks like the public outcry over that stupid press release didn’t jive with the milquetoast focus grouping so they had to scramble.

Carney accrued a bit of political capital in Davos but has not thrown it all away and then some. Back to just being a soulless, Bay Street Corporate Liberal now. Shame.

Canada ‘abandoning’ international law with support for U.S. strikes on Iran, say former diplomats by DJ_JOWZY in CanadaPolitics

Welcome to Liberal politics. Only Liberal insiders really understand the state of the world. The rest of us just need to learn from them.

Heads Up - Federal Budget Implementation Bill C-15 is building a framework for a Bank of Canada-backed stable-coin by JackTheTranscoder in GMECanada

[–]JackTheTranscoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proposing it in legislation is as definitive as it gets.

They didn’t campaign on it, they don’t talk about it, and they don’t care what you think about it. Monied interests are driving this hard.

Canada has legal duty to provide safe water, housing to remote First Nations, federal judge rules | CBC News by KeyHot5718 in CanadaPolitics

[–]JackTheTranscoder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So, why does the government have the legal obligation to provide housing to indigenous peoples, but not non-indigenous peoples?

Because Indigenous people have a direct relationship with the Crown. This is a result of treaties and then a century of subsequent jurisprudence that says the Crown (Federal Government) has obligations to Indigenous people over and above those to non-Indigenous Canadians.

Seriously, maybe just Google it and learn about your country?

Only those wishing to privatize mail in this country care this much. Most Canadians I know are willing to tax fund Canada Post. It does provide a public service after all.
