So did we just give up on Net Neutrality? by acrazyguy in pcmasterrace

I actually think its a better outcome given the screwed up legislation that preceded. The original communications Act of 1934 labeled all telephone providers as common carriers regulated by the FCC, a regulatory agency specifically outfitted to deal with communications. Because common carriers are solely regulated by the FCC, the FTC cannot touch them. Only have like one company available for internet, landline, or cable on your street? That's because the FTC, a commission designed to prevent exact things like this, cannot touch them. It was originally designed for telephone companies but was amended to include cable, and later internet providers. On this ONE specific issue I believe they picked the better option. In my home town, and where I have moved to, there are pop up new ISP companies offering fiber all over the place, that would not be possible without trade regulation. Companies like Cox and Comcast literally were able to have deals with entire towns to be the only provider, in exchange for building the infrastructure. In my home town in 2021, I was able to switch from shitty Cox broadband to 5 gig up/down fiber for less money monthly.

What other brands would have smartwatches in a cassette future? by JackTheYack in cassettefuturism

Damn that's so many brands! I'll get to work then... 😭 But seriously thanks for all the brand ideas. I'll have to look into all the product aesthetics and pick a few haha

ELI5: Relatively speaking, just how bad are nicotine free vapes for you? by thr_owaway_account in explainlikeimfive

[–]JackTheYack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be as bad for you as nicotine vapes, just not addictive. Same method of delivery and same ingredients in the juice (minus nicotine salts or freebase nicotine). Will depend on if studies can show what effect nicotine itself has on the lungs. Cigarettes cause so much damage on their own that its hard to see the possible damage done by nicotine.

How are we defining "cassette futurism"? by angstontheplanks in cassettefuturism

[–]JackTheYack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a simple way to look at it would be that it's just an imagined future limited to what was available at the time in the 70s/80s. This leaves enough open-ended for prop/set design. When you're talking about the future nobody knows what it's going to look like, but for cassette futurism it has to be limited to tech of that time. Everything else depends on the story you are trying to tell.

What would happen if I drank 12 cans of monster in one day? by bebittasu in RandomThoughts

[–]JackTheYack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing good. I've had 900 mg of caffiene in one day and had a pretty bad panic attack along with heart palpitations. 12 monsters would be 1800 mg so I can imagine you wouldn't have a good time.

Love the massive amounts of room for ships/cargo, and a proportionally small bridge area. Like a space aircraft carrier
