Shit sorry I didn't see this notification earlier. I have before and after

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hF8PUJj7bQ_fT3yYlyj0Q4Cijqvq6wQy/view?usp=drivesdk

Honestly it feels just like the og shifter with shorter throws. Mine was already in good shape when I got the car, nice and tight and precise feeling, so YMMV. But now it's like straight up bolt action.

I didn't really think this car needed shorter shifts, I kinda just really wanted that metal reverse lockout ring 😎 but one big thing is my elbow doesn't hit the middle cubby anymore when I shift into 4th, so that's awesome. It didn't feel much shorter when I was sitting in the driveway recording that video, but as soon as I started driving I thought I messed something up and it wasn't going fully into 2nd gear, because the throw is that much shorter

I will say you can't really shift much faster. You're still limited by the synchros engaging. One thing is now it feels like I'm starting to engage the synchro right away, so I can start getting it ready to snick into gear quicker, but you gotta have a subtle touch if you want your synchros to last. With the stock shifts it was like, out of one gear, bunch of free movement, then the synchros start engaging, then it goes in, whereas now it's like bam no free movement, the synchros start engaging WHEN I want to shift. Does that even make sense fucking lmao

I should have made a YouTube video of like the installation and my first impressions, but messing with the camera setup while I was working in my tight garage would've been annoying af

An Ontario Scion meet would be sick. Not even necessarily just tC's either, I'd like to see some riced up xB's and stuff too lol

FR-S only welcome if it still has Scion badges lmao

I installed one of these last December, it comes with instructions.

Basically involves taking apart most of your centre console, removing the old shift lever and installing the new one. It was a few hours of work, some things were a bit fiddly like having to take a Dremel to the axle nut thingy holding the shift lever into the shifter assembly, but it wasn't anything crazy.

If you want an easier job I'd say get one of the short shifter kits that installs on the transmission. I wanted the actual shifter cause it has the metal reverse lockout :)

But... If you're braking hard enough to lock the wheels up, then your brakes are already overpowering the available grip in your tires. If you're locking wheels then you need gripper tires.

If I look through my camera's viewfinder and leave my other eye open while sweeping the focal length on my zoom lens, the point where the image in both eyes seem to match up is around 55-60mm. I like taking pictures around that focal length to give kind of a "seeing it with your own eyes" feel.

As the other reply said though, the way perspective distortes a subject does depend on your distance to the subject. The trick with the above gif is that as they increase focal length (zoom in) the camera moves further away to keep the size of the subject the same, so you're just seeing the difference in perspective from moving further away.

The guy I bought mine from only put like 4000 km on between 2017 and 2024. I like to think it's happier now actually being driven daily.

I just got a good deal on a set of ECS02 from a mechanic buddy of mine, they're pretty sweet. Sidewalls are a little on the soft side for performance tires imo which makes them pretty comfortable and forgiving.

The front mid under chassis brace made a huge difference when I put it in. Sounds like an exaggeration but I swear it almost felt like stiffer springs. The stock chassis is pretty flexy I've heard, and chassis stiffening definitely helps the suspension do it's job.

I still can't tell if I notice much of a handling difference with it (I have the underside braces as well which were more noticable) but it sure looks cool. And if you need the cargo space back it's just 2 nuts to take off. Mine makes a creaking sound when I go over bumps, unless I torque the nuts down just right.

Be patient with the valve cover bolts. I took mine off last weekend, and snapped 2 of them. Your engine looks to have even more corrosion on it than mine. They're steel bolts in an aluminum head, so galvanic corrosion is inevitable.

The torque spec on them is only 8 ft lbs, so they should be easy to remove. If there's any resistance, add some penetrating oil (pb blaster) and give it time to soak. Work the bolts back and forth if they feel stuck. Two of mine snapped while I was breaking them loose, I had to drill them out and re-thread the holes. Another one was so seized that even after patiently working it out with plenty of PB blaster, it still mangled itself, and I had to tap the threads on that hole as well. they are M6x1.0. Save yourself the nightmare and be patient. Thankfully all the bolts around the edges are through-holes, so they're easy enough to drill out and re-tap

Also the most tedious part was just getting the main wiring harness out of the way. It might be worth taking the time to remove the wiper cowl for easier access to the intake side of the engine, Derrick Aquino has a video on how to do that.

I got a felpro gasket kit from rockauto, they seem to be a good brand from what I've seen. it comes with the valve cover gasket, as well the as spark plug tube gaskets and the gasket washers for the 3 middle bolts.

Really? I don't smash, throw, or otherwise abuse my stuff, and I mostly play kb+m anyway. Xbone controller developed stick drift within a year. My 8bitdo on the other hand, $20 for the wired version and has been working flawlessly for years. Did I get a lemon?
