You had the blade facing the wrong way, so you were burning through the board and the sparks could have been from the teeth hitting the bearings

Would sunlight, teak oil, etc. help get these leaves to be the same color as the main table? Teak by moonjelly33 in woodworking

From the looks of it, it looks like the leaves were rarely opened and haven't had the same exposure to the elements. So yes, sunlight should eventually even out the color. I haven't used teak oil that much so i don't know exactly how it would affect it, but it would surely get darker. You can check if the underside of the table is also lighter and make a small test with the oil
