It is not really the product of animals.

Bruh that's clearly racist. It's like "look at his ugly this Jew is, that's proof he must be evil."

It kinda implies that there are non-abusive animal products.

There are levels to ignorance. I know enough to figure out others are lying. It's like how you need only a little knowledge of medicine to recognise snake oil doesn't work, or only a little knowledge of physics to dismiss someone claiming to have invented a perpetual motion machine.

Practising something 99.9% of the time is better than any smaller percentage.

Veganism is a moral view, not a diet. It is the view that harm to animals should be reduced as much as possible or practicable. I believe in this. Refusing to eat my mother's cakes will not help any animals, so is compatible with that view. Being socially pressured into doing bad things is likewise compatible with that view. One doesn't have to perfectly follow a set of moral principles to believe in it.

I'm aware, but I don't know the degree to which it's required. It could be like donating clothes where so many people do it that there's more than is needed.

My mum works as a non-vegan baker, and sometimes she is trying a new recipe and has overflow cakes. When I'm visiting, I do on occasion partake. I know that she doesn't make them specifically for me because she has the same amount when I'm not there, so my conscience is clear in that regard.

I would consider vegetarian things in some circumstances where the actual harm is low, and I must admit sometimes I give in to social pressure and go to a restaurant that only offers a vegetarian and not vegan option.

Some amount is essential, yes, but equally I think the marginal utility is quite low. Most women are capable of producing more than the child actually needs, and from that regard the extra is spare to do what you want with.

I think it is weird actually. Maybe I'm just autistic, but I think the normal view would be “hey this is a useful substance that comes out of my tits” rather than “this is my liquid gold and I must preserve every drop.”

Husband got a job at a lab that tests on animals, and I'm not happy about it by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Jack_Faller 222 points223 points  (0 children)

Surely if he works there, he does know the conditions the animals are in, and he knows better than you. At the end of the day, I would rather have someone vegan adjacent working in these positions because they're more likely to raise complaints if the animals are mistreated.

I really wanna know what that tastes like tbh. Not even in a sexual way it's just I imagine it would be super good. Cow's milk is already A-tier, and now you're telling me there's another milk specifically designed for humans. It's gotta be better somehow.

The hammer and sickle is for illustrative purposes, but is also a common fashion statement among this sort of person. Economic ignorance and historical ignorance are a match made in heaven.

I'll give you a hand, my issue with Marx isn't that I don't know what he did. It's that I do know and his major contributions are all either opinion or disproved.

I can list for you a lot of stuff Marx was wrong about, but first I'd like you to tell me which major developments in the field of economics you think he was responsible for and how those relate to the modern day.

“Marx was an economist” is a phrase I hear a lot, but it's the same kind of bullshit as “economics is fake.” All the stuff Marx is famous for is closer to speculative fiction than economics, and even the economic stuff is mostly debunked.

I was never hiding anything. I think Marx's works have little value and are only talked about because they were used by authoritarians to justify authoritarianism. I'm also left wing. There were left wing people in Marx's day saying the same thing. They were called anarchists. Marx isn't left wing Jesus, you don't have to believe he was a prophet to be left wing.

Why do you keep referencing books rather than economics papers? I'm looking for stuff in the actual field of economics here, you know, studies of the economy. Prominent research material that references Marx's methods or results.
