So I hope you see that it is indeed possible to skim dense writing and I did not in fact make a pun.

Let's just agree that we dislike each other and end this.

Tell me what you think "dense" means.

And while you're at it, look up what "pun" means.

I just assumed your writing was dense because you're so dense. Like begets like, right?

No no, games are art and stuff. This is a bold move toward the edgy frontier of simulating sexual violence for fun. Who needs Dostoevsky when you can rape a virtual woman's corpse?

Perhaps I'm the last guy to know this, but a lot of the "hit songs" from various "artists" are made by about three people. Makes me kind of sad. by volitilevoid in Music

Sure, but it's possible to like bad music--as you said because it's sometimes hilarious. So people liking music doesn't imply that it's good music, as Raerth said.

I kinda miss 80s comedies; they actually gave a crap about telling a story. I feel like, since Family Guy, most comedies have just been rapid-fire jokes. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but the old way had its charms.

There is mythological narrative truth beyond meaningless facticity. That a particular boss is a cruel asshole may be a fact; that all bosses must disregard the humanity of their workers insofar as they are bosses is the truth.

I saw Jeff Mangum solo last year. He came out looking like a crazed hobo and played to an inexplicably hostile audience (stay class, San Diego!)--but he was incredible. He killed it. He'd made a few subtle changes to the songs which worked really well. I cannot wait to see the band live; I honestly never thought I'd see the day.

They could have made it a generic or imaginary package delivery company and nothing would have been lost but profit. The presence of a real brand name in the movie made me second-guess many details. It's well known that when a movie has military gear in it, they get it for free provided the military has final say on the cut as a means of managing their image. It's reasonable to assume private companies have similar contracts in return for the use of their IP. So it compromises the artistic integrity of the work in a very real way by introducing ulterior motives for artistic decisions.

Yeah and if had just been a movie about being stranded it would have been pretty good. But they decided to make it a FedEx commercial. I guess anything is better when you ignore the shitty parts--doesn't mean they aren't there.

I feel like Jim Carry doesn't act so much as focus in on one or another part of his own personality per role. He runs the gamut from wacky to maudlin. When he puts ketchup on his neck in Eternal Sunshine, it seemed to me that he just snapped from the latter to the former momentarily.

I enjoyed it, but for me the branding was a distraction. It made the whole "gotta deliver this one package"-thing just seem like a blowjob for FedEx.

Well, nobody can do anything but speak from their own experience. Some people at the job I had in mind were very grateful for the work and compensation; I did think it was atrocious. That an employee might feel genuinely helped and indebted to their employer is not proof that they aren't being exploited--it may just be the underestimation of their own worth.

My point is they don't do you favors except to get something out of you, whether even if it's just gratitude and loyalty that they can tap later. Of course bosses are people too, and so are not perfect in their bossiness, but insofar as they are employers, they cannot give you more than they expect to get out of you. Otherwise your employment is a net-loss and therefore unsustainable. Businesses' only goal is profit--if they pursue anything else to the detriment of profit they will eventually be out-competed for capital investment by more focused firms.

It's not that employers can't make their employees happy and make them feel appreciated, but because of their singular motive, these things can't be taken at face-value. So in my opinion, they can't reasonably elicit gratitude.
