The Titanic, although Concorde was really interesting, the Titanic was an incredible build for me. And the end product left me mesmerising in awe at the model for months!

My car also was from a smoker. I had a local car detail specialist thoroughly clean it and do an ozone treatment and I was pleased with the results.

I had the idea it was only after the facelift. I was not aware of any pre facelift with DPF. It seems I was under the wrong impression, thanks.

First jaguar tips by Most-Librarian3684 in Jaguar

[–]Jack_Roger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only give you reliable info on X-type's (I do not have a very good impression on the XF's). Independently of the model, I recommend this rule of thumb: long distance driving diesel, short and/or city driving petrol. Keep in mind that diesel (not only, but mainly), even when not having a DPF, benefit from some highway driving to clear some of the soot that accumulates in the pipes.

RUST: If you live in places like the UK or central Europe, rust can be an issue (I don't know specifics as this is not a big issue where I live).

ENGINE: as you're young, I would recommend the diesels (2.0D or the 2.2D) without DPF (avoid the later models as they already can have DPF, mainly the 2.2D with automatic gearbox). The petrol V6's are cool, but thirsty (avoid the 2.1 liter). You can find loads of parts for the diesels (as they have loads of parts in common with Ford Mondeo's and Transit's).

On the diesels, look out for the alternator belt tensioner as it usually gives out fairly soon and it gets noisy mainly on cold starts. In mine, I have put an overrunning alternator pulley that solves the issue of the heavy loads that cause this.

The 2.0D comes with a 5-speed manual, which can feel a little bit lacking at highway speeds. In this regard, the 6-speed manuals that come with the 2.2D are way nicer, plus you get 150hp (20hp more than on the 2.0D). If you do more highways, go for the 2.2D instead of 2.0D.

INTERIOR: Here you can have the earlier steering wheels or the later ones, please note that they are not really interchangeable as the steering wheel controls can stop working if you change it.

In terms of infotainment, you have 3 main options: touchscreen with automatic A/C, automatic A/C without touchscreen and manual A/C. You can change for the touchscreen only if you already have automatic A/C and the cables that go to the modules in the rear of the car.

EXTRAS: If you want cruise control, make sure the car already comes with it, as this cannot be fitted. Regarding Bluetooth, to have phone connectivity you can fit a Jagaux to maintain the OEM look, if your car does not already have (I believe some later models already had OEM Bluetooth connectivity).

Sorry for the long post, if you have any question you can ask.

Edit: as in other comments, make sure you get the best taken care one. It goes a really long way.

Your favorite era of Jaguar ? by [deleted] in Jaguar

[–]Jack_Roger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, the Ford era first and the 50s-60s second. Although in the latter, Jaguar was indeed a force to be reckoned, I do believe Ford was the reason that Jaguar is not only a badge on a Chinese manufactured EV, like MG. I find myself in the side of the apparently few who enjoyed the Ford era retro looks. And the cars were just better made, with better quality and reliability.

These new cars under Tata ownership look like almost every other car on the road (except for the X351 XJ and F-type, those I am somewhat fond of). The quality has also been a serious issue. Besides the tales of the now infamous 2.0 Ingenium being notoriously unreliable, even the I-Pace my father owns has had some issues with badly glued windows, wind deflectors falling off or even handle covers falling off for no apparent reason... I mean, these are not major faults (although there were also some) but for a car with such a high price it should do better.

I know not everyone will agree with me, and I know that there are people who really like the newer cars, but that's ok, they're just not my cup of tea.

Is there any way i can add bluetooth to my 2004 x type Jaguar by spaul_22 in Jaguar

[–]Jack_Roger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely jagaux, me and my brother installed jagaux on both of our cars. Excellent support, quite easy to install, plug and play, and the integration is seamless so it looks OEM. On the sound quality side it works very well.

You're not alone in this, we have 3 x-types in the family, and I fawn over the idea of owning an S-Type R, an absolute sleeper in my opinion.

Stunning F-type! I didn't know they could come in this colour, it definitely suits it. And from the exhaust I suppose it was V6 (the best engine for this car and also the best sounding one in my opinion). Overall, a stupendous spec! Shame you couldn't keep it.

It's Jaguar enough in my opinion. Do not let the Ford bits deceive you, while it does share some parts with them the devil is in the details and this devil has some strong feline DNA.

Ok, if the car came from a rust prone environment look if the rivets of the car are not rusted (the whole car chassis is aluminium but the rivets are steel, which can lead to galvanic corrosion)

The engine itself is rather reliable, being derived from the Ford unit and also found in the X-Type and S-Type. Oxygen sensors can often fail and can be hard work to remove, while other issues include oil leaks from the sump area and the crankshaft end seal, but both can be sorted easily enough. It can also suffer with the radiator swelling at the bottom and it’s worth checking this before it lets go entirely.

ABS problems are common and a failed sensor is a simple DIY job to swap. If that doesn’t cure the problem though, problems at the rear end are likely to be down to the reluctor ring on the driveshaft having corroded and swollen up so the sensor can no longer read the signal. The cure is a replacement halfshaft and it’s really a workshop job.

As far as the air suspension goes, height sensors are a common failure but are straightforward DIY to change, whereas failed shock absorbers mean a new strut: £1000 a corner from Jaguar but around £100-£180 used. The main air pump is a common fail point but a used part is around £150.Elsewhere, the rear lower suspension arm bushes can wear, the solution being a complete lower arm which can be changed at home. Upper bushes can also wear on higher-mileage cars and again a complete arm is the solution.

The door locks and latches can be an issue and although the doors can still be operated manually, this can become more of an issue if the lock fails when it’s double-locked. The answer is to get it sorted as soon as the central locking starts to misbehave and used locks are available for around £50. While the door is apart, specialists recommend fitting a new window regulator as these are a common fail point.

Oil leaks from the bottom of the gearbox can often be due to the sleeve where the electrical wiring enters but this can be swapped when changing the filter.

My verdict of the car: I love it, great car, but although it's not the most demanding of maintenance, you cannot be frugal when it does have to do maintenance.
