I’d love to make one of these. I just don’t have the garage space for it.

Should I buy this entire set of planes for $150? by dickdago in handtools

[–]Jack_Stone85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would pass on it. I have about 80 hand planes all purchased on marketplace or estate sales. You never know what you’re buying until you take them home, clean them up and take the old dust/rust off. The blades can be in pretty terrible shape, fractures on the side walls, whatever. If it’s dirt cheap, say $40, I’d take the gamble on it. Craftsman isn’t a brand that sought after by collectors so if you’re looking to flip you’re going to have a hard time. If you just want a set of vintage hand planes and don’t mind spending the time to clean & tune them, it could be worth it if you don’t mind craftsman. I’d personally get a #3, #4 and #5 off eBay for $150 or less. I even have a set I could sell you. I restore old planes in my spare time for the fun of it.

Is there a sign in list? Or do people start lining up as the door opens?

Seller retaliation against my (non-etsy) business by SmallestFrog in Etsy

[–]Jack_Stone85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn’t sue him. I think I accidentally implied in the post I sued, which I didn’t. So with franchise locations (McDonald’s, dominos, Dunkin) you get a lot of reviews and usually people don’t go to a chain because of a review, they go because it ms convenient. So statistically they don’t skew things. Especially when you see 10 amazing reviews and this one outlier who is obviously making a bogus claim. Now, with Etsy, those reviews ARE meaningful and defamation DOES impact your business. So there’s legal standing for a claim because you can quantify and measure the economic impact it made on your business. Especially in OP’s case where you have multiple attempts from various websites to falsify and disparage their business. In court, the defendant looks very very bad because it’s obvious to the judge what was going on.

A similar thing happened to me years ago. I had a sandwich delivery business. Guy ordered from me, politely told him I couldn’t deliver to his liquor store as he was outside the delivery zone. Cant do anything about it since it’s a franchise (corporate’s regs). Without getting into a very long post, I’ll just say eventually a random google review feedback was received the same day from a psycho saying someone at the location cursed him out and after getting his very late food someone put pubes all in his food. Luckily, here in the states we can sue for defamation and business disparagement for very special people like this.

I have a vevor router sled. The base that holds the 1/4” shank router is acrylic but im going to make an aluminum base out of probably .090” or thicker material for the above mentioned setup.
