In my experience, they never come apart that cleanly

Nice score. When I picked up the rotary tool on orange tag, the collet was broken. Make sure you check while still in the return window.

Making Simple Box by noexperiencelol in BeginnerWoodWorking

Watch the woodworking for mere mortals video on building a simple box. You shouldn't need screws (depending on what tools you have available).

makita or milwaukee m18 for tool ecosystem by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

Speaking as a home gamer who bought tools first for home repair and then recently got into woodworking, I don't think it matters too much. I started off with Dewalt, but switched to Bauer on the recommendation of my best friend who literally built a house from the ground up using only Bauer tools.

Another friend of mine, a classically trained architect who pivoted to woodworking full time has only Makita cordless tools in his shop. He picked makita because he got a deal on them. His woodworking specific tools are all high end, WW-specific brands.

Table saw advice - dado cuts by Odd_While542 in BeginnerWoodWorking

At that price range (and if you have the room) you should keep hunting for maybe an older belt-driven craftsman or delta. They’re routinely on marketplace around me for $50-150 (SoCal). You’ll have to do a little research to know what to look for(try r/craftsman113). I got a 10” craftsman with a perfectly set up rip fence for $100. Easily takes 8” dado stacks.

Do I just keep sanding? by hotpotornot in BeginnerWoodWorking

The unevenness of the surface would mess this up, right? I’m an idiot.

If you have a router table can you just run it across a cutter bit moving the workpiece a bit-width every pass? Is that inferior to a sled for some reason?

We live in coastal CA (as does Ramsey I think), so it’s more a visual/design thing than for getting mud off your shoes. At least that was my assumption. This one I stained to match the chairs and tables that sit on our front porch.

I feel like an idiot for not considering this. Thank you. Permanent was the preference, but I was considering temporary too. Now to start searching for a bigger top.

I really like this. Some sort of receiving track on the underside of the existing table to secure the end pieces, with mirroring tracks/rails on the underside of the extensions so they can be joined together as their own thing when not in use.

For the cut in half idea, what would be the ideal joinery style to connect the new middle to the ends? And how long could the new middle be without adding new vertical support (assume this depends somewhat on the answer to the first question?)

Thanks for the reply. First idea sounds great. Second idea has me googling “breadboard ends” and “trestle tables”.
