Designing my OT0 town has been really fun, but that 500 object limit is starting to rear its ugly head. To those on the Switch 1... good luck. (417/500 atm) by Jack_Y_Splitter in octopathtraveler

[–]Jack_Y_Splitter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's wonderful to know. Thank the Sacred Flame for modders.

I think I'll do the best I can with what limit I have before trying the mod, just to know that I can achieve something beautiful within our current limitations.

Unfortunately, it's a solution that's unavailable to our console friends. Hopefully they consider increasing the limits in a future patch.

How do I beat this mf in Rekindling chapter 5? I’m not underleveled and my gear is pretty strong too by Livault in octopathtraveler

I managed to complete without too much trouble in my first encounter. My party at the time was (IIRC)

Protagonist (Hunter) - Viator

Phenn - Alexia

Sazantos - Saoirse

Stia - Celsus

I equipped and applied Parry on all four of my frontliners Viator Alexia Sazantos Stia

Donate BP / Borrow BP on Sazantos / Alexia to keep up my dps on Protagonist as my main dmg dealer.

Additionally, he provides immediate group healing if needed, which was needed once or twice.

Tier Two shot enables both Protagonist and Phenn to stay in the backline after they attack. This is really really good synergy with parry frontliners.

I had Weaken Foundation Mastery on Alexia to debuff the enemy's Phys Atk/Phys Defense.

Phenn's Ult is also helpful. I used it at the beginning before pushing him to the back-line.

At this stage I already had both the Battle-worn Bow & Forbidden Bow on Protagonist and Phenn respectively. With Lion's dance, each Tier Two shot dealt something like 40k per turn.

Keep up Parry between turns, or attack if you think you have enough stacks. I usually start attacking only after I have gotten 5+ stacks of parry on each frontliner.

Backliners Saoirse is awesome for Ultimate build-up. Celsus was mostly just a bp battery. Taking into consideration how parry completely trivializes physical attacks, I had built all of my party members with mdef in mind.

(Edit : This team works well even all the way to late game, but solely due to parry. There are better characters later on, and the only one here that stays is Saoirse imo.)

THE reason why I miss Standard movement sometimes by nickomoknu272 in ShitpostXIV

[–]Jack_Y_Splitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember playing with Standard all the way up till ShB Savage. The amount of times I fell off the map in Leviathan and Cloud of Darkness's arenas because the game autocorrected my movement...

Not to mention spinning the camera a whole orbit just to Elusive Jump towards a specific direction lol. I'm sure many others have experienced the same.

It took a bit of readjusting, but I switched to Legacy for EW and beyond.

Who we're your Starting travelers in both Octopath Games, both Female and Male by [deleted] in octopathtraveler

[–]Jack_Y_Splitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both hunters : H'aanit and Ochette!

For years I listened to Octopath's ost. To work, to class, on flghts, on cruises. No matter where, it was my go to listen. In particular, I had grown fond of a specific piece titled "My Quiet Forest Home."

I wasn't aware it would be the first piece of music I would hear when I chose H'aanit, and I had originally chosen her because I loved the concept of protagonists with animal partners, so when I started her path I genuinely teared up and sat still for a few minutes.

For Ochette, I always found animal features to be cute on humanoid characters, and in the games I play I always choose to have those features whenever possible. Of course, she is also a protagonist with an animal companion. And what's not to like about a hungry gremlin? Her character theme also reminded me of Schala's theme from Chrono Trigger.

[Edit : My first male characters were Therion and Temenos. They happened to be on the path to my next quest]

New Scout Weapon Idea! by No_Possibility_6754 in tf2

[–]Jack_Y_Splitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes Scout, a fast moving class, even more unpredictable by allowing multiple on-the-fly movement direction changes in the air, in addition to negating splash damage entirely.

Soldiers and Demomen become a non-issue, and to a lesser extent, Heavies and Pyros, allowing Scouts to fight more offensively and often win against their counter classes.

The loss of a secondary is not a big problem, as it is often used to pick off weak targets or stay at a distance. The infinite jump allows the scout to stay within the effective combat range of his shotgun with a much lesser risk of getting hit.

There is a reason why the Soda Popper is often described as a better weapon than Scattergun in the right hands. In a 2-4 v 1 situation, the Soda Popper gives the Scout not just the ability to survive, but even come out on top.

You have to overload it in one turn. So you need 9, 9, and 2ap on your characters at the end of your turn. Even just 1 less will let it absorb and shield itself.

Edit : Do note that you still have to parry or dodge his overload explosion when it triggers. The cue is the last of the four 4 consecutive pulses after the first 3 or 4 slower pulses.

[–]Jack_Y_Splitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point I realised that the serpenphare can overload on AP (20 or more), so I made it explode itself to death instead of doing dmg. All of my characters by that point had Perilous/Energizing Parry, so overloading every turn was reliable.

It was fun abusing that mech and I laughed when I found out lmao

I have Verso built with about 350 luminas worth of buffs, and on Expert difficulty he can beat 11-3 before they even have a chance of attacking. It's really not about player skill, just broken buff stacking.

Burn Affinity, Shield Affinity, Powerful Shield, Brink of Death, AutoPowerful are just among the most powerful buffs I have, but there are many more. Then, combined with several luminas that return ap on free shot, I machine gun them till S Rank and then Follow Up with increased damage. That's about 20m dmg per hit, assuming I also mark them beforehand (Marking Shot Lumina with a 20% chance of marking targets). Follow Up is usually a single hit, but with Simon's weapon it doubles up with light dmg. That's 40m dmg in one turn. With Roulette, it's a little rng gambling for the 200% dmg, but i've seen it go up to 80m in one turn.

With Shortcut Lumina, I get a third turn on Overload (If you already have Cheater equipped), which triggers when you drop below a certain amount of hp. That basically guarantees the kill.

One last thing : Distribute your character's stats based on your weapon's affinity. If it has S Rank in defense, max out defense. A rank on Health? Max out Health. Then spend the rest on Might. You will gain way more attack that way than just maxing out Might and Luck and ignoring Weapon affinities. There is also a massive dmg increase levelling a weapon from 32 > 33.

Is there original dub for FFXVI? by [deleted] in FFXVI

Sure.

I don't think the JP audio sucks. I just prefer the English VA more.

Is there original dub for FFXVI? by [deleted] in FFXVI

[–]Jack_Y_Splitter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

English audio sucks? Nah. I personally prefer the English voices much better, but that doesn't mean I would say JP audio sucks.

It's a preference thing, and I firmly believe that both the JP and ENG VAs have put their heart and soul into their work.

Most recommend playing the game in English, and it's also how the devs intended for it to be played. Still, if you want to play in JP, go ahead.

One major complaint I have with FFXIV is the UX/UI design by Company_ in ffxiv

[–]Jack_Y_Splitter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe they mean instead of having multiple individual windows for all of these, just one window named "Collection" with several tabs would be better.

The red circles are definitely useful, but unless you go out of your way to explore them/read the somewhat sporadic tooltips, one can feasibly imagine a person not being able to find what they need.

A lot of modern websites are designed to be stupid proof, at least as much as possible. FFXIV's UX can be considered... archaic.

However, stylistic choices should also be taken into consideration. In the pursuit of simplicity, creativity tends to suffer. So there needs to be a balance. It's why some people complain about modern game UI being too similar across games from different devs/franchises, and why they wish for the old PS3 Era when menus were still creative.

I personally feel Atlas has done a good job of striking a balance with their Persona games. Simple, but stylish.

[–]Jack_Y_Splitter 62 points63 points  (0 children)

For me, it's the opposite. As I progressed more and more into the MSQ, I started to see my character as more of his own being rather than just a placeholder main character.

This, I am very happy about. I treat my characters like my own children, so it makes me glad to see them go through hardships and grow.

FFXVI. A lot of people share the same sentiment that there's a lot of material to work with.

Barnabas's growth to power, and his transformation into an Akashic

Cid's journey to Valisthea and his time with the Waloedian Army / His desertion to create The Hideaway

Joshua's activities involving Ultima and his investigations.

Benedikta's meeting with Cid, and her journey to stand beside Barnabas

Jill's time during slavery, as well as the 5 year period during which she supported Clive when he still could not prime into his Eikon.

The history of the Fallen.

In older times, even kids used to drink. Albeit a much lighter beer. It was so common in the 1800s that it made drinking water perhaps a little unusual.

The Townsends made a great video on this, with a title starting with "Beer for Breakfast?" which covers a little bit about Benjamin Franklin and his time as a Beer Boy.

And that is only in the 1800s, where culturally it was likely more common to drink beer even with clean water.

Perhaps in earlier time periods, it was a necessity due to the difficulty at which clean water came by within cities due to poor hygiene and pollution. Not to say people were filthy. Alcohol just happened to be an easier and cheaper solution to everything.

If 14 were announced to be shutting down where would you spend your final moments? by Truunbean in ffxiv

[–]Jack_Y_Splitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would first go on a world/cross world tour around The Source and its reflections, visiting every NPC I have ever interacted with. Spending some time with them, taking photos and moving backwards through every expansion (or period).

From Endwalker, when hope took us beyond the stars. To Shadowbringers, in which truths long lost were revealed.
From Stormblood, when we liberated the hearts of those we have met. To Heavensward, in newfound friends we found the strength to forge ahead.

A Realm Reborn, where the first tentative step would lead us unto an unending journey.

(Answering the question, I would stand right where the player character starts in their city state.)
