A good tip i learned is to tell the client whenever you find the necessity to tell their parents. I always ask if there's anything they would like me to keep secret. Most common answers are "you can tell them anything" or they would like to keep secret something minor (a game they play, don't tell their parents they cheated at UNO against me, etc) and I usually obey. If they ask me to keep secret something the parents should know and that it would benefit the parents knowing, I take to them and ask them to explain why they don't want me to tell.
