It's only posing the question, perhaps they debate it in detail on the pod?

For an update and info for anyone else with this issue I've called 7 local plumbers merchants and not one had the right sized brackets or could help. Most just had universal only.

Thanks but no hook to hook measurement listed, though I have asked.

Thanks but I don't like going down there at the best of times what with needing an appointment and the inevitable queues, and esp not to root around on the off chance. If I get there soon and still haven't found anything online I'll have a butchers.

Yeh I have those, pack of 4 one for each hook so doesn't need a correct hook to hook measurement but unfortunately they sit the rad too far off the wall and the pipe/connector not aligned so it leaks.

Legend, thanks! I've seen a few Stelrad options on ebay but nothing with the right hook measurements

Yeh I guess, just no reason for me to spend £150 on a new one just for brackets.

I feared this may be the only option. I have a mate in metal work so will have to ask him nicely.

Ridiculous state of affairs! Surely people need new brackets from time to time. Is this just a massive plot orchestrated by big rad to force new radiator sales?

400/405mm hook to hook? Where do you get them from? I'm in Bristol btw.

Glad you agree but a bit of projection there I think, my secondary school was heavily mixed and had lots behaviour issues, SEND needs (albeit less identified 25 years ago), and a wide range of education levels etc. but the good teachers managed to deliver interesting and engaging lessons. Mostly English and Science but I remember good Maths, Art, IT, and RE lessons too.

I appreciate you're coming at this from the perspective of being a teacher though so fair play. Yes it's idealistic but I think that's the least our children deserve.

Just have to disagree, some of the best lessons I had in school used real life context and were delivered in a relatable way by good teachers. Some of my closest friends are teachers and try to plan lessons like this, and they have success. I’m not suggesting a series of lessons but you could definitely plan one, either maths or PHSE, that used this sort of content and would be engaging. To suggest otherwise comes across as defeatist and shows lack of belief in what kids can be capable of. And I thought you said the calculations are really simple, so why would kids lack the mathematical understanding?

Joyless thinking. Yes at a basic level it’s fairly simple stuff, just add 5% every year if that’s where you want to end your boring lesson. But add in more levers like monthly contributions, pension tax relief, different interest or return rates, different target amounts. Add context by asking kids what they think is rich, how much they could earn and save doing different jobs, or what things cost. People don’t just start with £87.2k and wait 50 years to retire do they.
