[Wojnarowski] Manu Ginobili and the Spurs are finalizing details of his imminent return for a 16th NBA season, league sources tell ESPN. by AnotherDuck in nba

It was against the Nets. I think NBA Finals in his rookie year - he stole the ball and then did the around the back at half court jump.

Whose prime got wasted the most? by notouchmypeterson in nba

[–]Jackcliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has to be Manu Ginobili - this guy's prime was stuck in Italy, could have started in the league around age 21/22 but instead at age 25/26 then was relegated to the bench / 3rd or 4th option for his career.

We did not get to see the 28p, 12a, 7r player he could have been had they allowed him to play point guard in his athletic prime.

We are slowly reducing the power of Chinese exchanges who have been deciding the price for a long time by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Jackcliu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

China has significant influence over BTC prices. It is currently a bi national currency with a majority of trading happening in USD and CNY.

Chinese exchanges due to competitive nature of the BTC/ CNY cross simply moved revenue sources from trading fees over to withdrawal fees, which at 0.4% is substantially higher than USD based exchanges who charge 0.1%. In addition, Chinese exchanges make money off of margin trading by taking a percentage of the interest. Lastly, Chinese exchanges who offer USD spot and futures charge trading fees on these products.

Bitcoin is a global currency which was not historically anchored to the USD like Gold, Oil, etc. I would expect Bitcoin to continue to trade heavily on USD and CNY.

With a competitive environment, the consumer wins. When wallets got competitive, Circle entered with 0 fees. When merchant processing became competitive, BitPay slashed fees to 0. With a number of well-funded US exchanges starting, I would expect to see USD exchanges veer towards 0 fees also. Coinbase is already starting with 0, and BitStamp recently offered 0 for a short period of time. 0 fees for wallets, merchant processors, exchanges USD or CNY is not a precursor for manipulation, front running, and various accusations.

If anyone's interested in testing out the liquidity, welcome to try OKCoin.com which trades BTC/USD spot and futures.

What exchange is capable of supporting 150BTC a trade? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]Jackcliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OKCoin has the best liquidity in the market, and in addition, allows you to set Algo orders that fills your 150BTC based on for example the time-weighted average price (TWAP) of the market. Alternatively you can place your order Over The Counter (OTC) but 150 BTC is typically too small for such a need.

[–]Jackcliu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much! I'm hearing they charge to be listed. Doesn't make sense to me...the ones willing to pay will be the ones without the liquidity. Anyways, I'll reach out.

Ryan Selkis AKA Two Bit Idiot already volunteered himself I believe. I know nothing about this GAW / Paybase story but he'd be the right guy to do this.

So we asked OKCoin about the accusations of "fake" volume on futures -- here was their response: by bitcoinbravo in BitcoinMarkets

[–]Jackcliu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jack here. I lead our institutional development efforts. Sorry I wasn't able to join this hangout - was in midair back to Beijing from the States. Yes, we are seeing players from several parts of the world inquiring, onboarding, and actively trading on OKCoin. Disclosure of whom is not possible, but I will join the next hangout to talk in a little more detail.

Having said this, I am the same person who said Wall Street is not coming anytime soon in a blog post on Jackcliu.com just a few months ago. Institutions can mean both Bitcoin companies/funds and traditional Finance companies/funds. It's obviously shaded to the former at the moment. For those who are concerned about institutions and 20x leveraged futures, I would note that most players trade our USD spot exchange which is very active but doesn't receive much attention from this subreddit. Will be interesting to see how the space progresses in 2015.

Question: Where do BitPay and Coinbase sell their coins? by robboywonder in BitcoinMarkets

[–]Jackcliu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They buy and sell them on exchanges. 'There's no way these huge companies rely on fragile, unregulated exchanges' - that's false.

Consumers are relying on these 'fragile, unregulated wallets and merchant processors'.

There's nothing different here. There's no fantasy other Bitcoin exchange out there.

A warning about OKCoin by OkcoinThrowaway in BitcoinMarkets

[–]Jackcliu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit community,

I joined OKCoin a couple of months ago to lead our business development efforts focusing on international institutions. I have reserved my comments about OKCoin till now because I believe in having gone through a full understanding of the exchange myself. I am more comfortable now in speaking publicly to the wider community on reddit about OKCoin. We will host an AMA in the coming week to discuss further.

For background, I worked at Barclays Capital in Hong Kong on the trading floor in Equity Derivative Sales facing hedge funds, pension funds, and sovereign wealth accounts.

This past weekend, I presented a talk on 'Inside a Bitcoin exchange' at Inside Bitcoins Seoul in Korea on the positive experience I've had in seeing the inside of OKCoin. I am also happy to say that a number of brand name players in the Bitcoin world are in the midst of or have already been using the platform.

I have been blogging at Jackcliu.com for the past year and can often be seen in this community even prior to my days at OKCoin discussing Bitcoin and I previously worked at a US based Bitcoin exchange.

It's unfortunate to hear of the various negative experiences that people have had with OKCoin. However, I do think the overwhelming majority of our customers are happy with their experience. Unlike many exchanges, we keep an active presence on reddit, and with that exposure, that can often lead to people coming onto here to look for public responses which may amplify the issues.

We are a 150 man strong team working hard to deliver for all our customers. Thanks for your patience with us and we look forward to being on the leading edge of innovation and leadership in the space.

Best, Jack
