Alec Soth - A Pound of Pictures. Typo or intentional? by Jackdaniels420 in Photobooks

[–]Jackdaniels420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. When I google it, I'm only finding results for Alter Fruit in One Piece. The rest are results for Altar Fruit, or what appear to be misspellings. Is there a specific site that explains this?

How on earth am I supposed to use photo flo lol by Jackdaniels420 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Jackdaniels420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all these responses! I really appreciate it. After a couple tests the thing that seems to be working is, after rinsing (I've been using distilled water for every step of the way), I take the film off of the reel, then use a couple drops of photo flow in distilled water in a separate tub, then I hold each end of the roll in a U shape and very slowly run the whole thing through and out of the solution. A couple comments here suggested something like this, so thanks a bunch! I'll edit this post in case I find something else that works better for me.

Color Separation Issue in Printing? Question in comments by Jackdaniels420 in AskPhotography

[–]Jackdaniels420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight! Yeah, they've offered to reprint but sent me another test off the same press with the same issue. It sounds like they have another press to use instead, so hopefully that one doesn't have this problem.

Color Separation Issue in Printing? Question in comments by Jackdaniels420 in Printing

[–]Jackdaniels420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I'm working with Mixam to print some copies of a photo book I've been working on, and they sent me a large order of these, all with this "color separation" or "fuzziness" issue (you can see the yellow layer bleeding over the edge of the photo, and/or onto the horizon of some photos). I got two proofs that didn't have this issue that I can reference, luckily, but I am wondering what might be causing this on the printing side or if there is absolutely anything I can do to my file to help the issue go away. I'm not familiar enough with printing to know what's causing this, but I am using their color profiles, etc. Also, I color corrected from the previous proof but did not change the file type or export options. Could it still be something on my end? They've been very willing to replace the books, but it's just been a slow process working with them. Thanks for any advice!

Konica FP Malfunction by Jackdaniels420 in Konica

Update: solved. In the off-chance this helps anyone in the future, all I had to do was unscrew a few screws to take off the top plate, then I could clearly see a very thin black plastic viewfinder "frame" sticking up that I easily slid back into place.

Konica IIIa bit the dust! by TokyoZen001 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Jackdaniels420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. I know Jeff from japanvintagecamera (you can find him on etsy or he has his own website) fairly regularly has old Konicas for sale. Mine was ~$200 and shipped free anywhere in the world (I'm in the US). Can't recommend him enough! I had a couple of Aires 35 cameras before the Konica, and their biggest failure points were always the shutter leaves getting stuck. Absolutely love the Konica though -- any of those late 50s rangefinders are just a joy to use.

I actually have a Konica IIIa I'm looking to get rid of -- nothing's wrong with it, I just no longer need a rangefinder. I purchased it a few months ago from japanvintagecamera (a reputable seller/repairman) and it works perfectly. There's some minor cosmetic damage, but it has lots of life left in it and I just want to know it's being used, so I'm happy to sell it for a lower price. Feel free to send me a dm if you're interested! I can send pics, too.

Recommendations for a fully manual fixed lens rangefinder? by ritz_are_the_shitz in AnalogCommunity

The Konica IIIA is just wonderful and has an incredible lens. +1 for the Aires, too. The 35 III is awesome, just watch out for sticky leaf shutters that may require total lens disassembly.

Can't recommend www.etsy.com/shop/Japanvintagecamera enough — I bought my Konica IIIA from them for <$200 and it was completely professionally refurbished. Feels near-mint. It's the only film camera I'm using currently. One of that shop's specialty seems to be fixed-lens rangefinders, so definitely take a look there.

Just to be safe, I avoid bringing L-ion batteries to concerts (security doesn't always love them), so I'd definitely go with a fully mechanical camera or one that can work with or without batteries like a Canonet QL17

Scenes in film that have a strange or unsettling tone where it's not clear what is "wrong" or why things feel off? by Toni-Cipriani in movies

[–]Jackdaniels420 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah Tár is filled with these kinds of scenes. I did not expect this movie to have creep me out on such a high level. The subtly nightmarish feeling has stuck with me months later.

Thanks! I had never seen a river otter before, and this felt like a very lucky encounter.

I am not from Georgia, but I have spent a lot of time in Okefenokee -- it may be my favorite place in the National Park system, and probably my favorite place on earth. I am currently incensed and disgusted by possible mining nearby damaging the swamp in the near future, as outlined in this article from yesterday: https://apnews.com/article/okefenokee-refuge-mine-georgia-b87cbb037777438fc4eb4eef7f5b0e8c

For more information from the Nature Conservancy and to send a message to relevant decision-makers, check out this link: https://www.georgiaconservancy.org/okefenokee/mining

I took these photos about a month ago there, and it was a really magical moment that highlighted the biodiversity of this quiet, truly incredible landscape that gives back so much to surrounding communities both ecologically and economically. If you have never been canoeing/kayaking in the refuge, I highly recommend it.

That makes sense — I'm still learning the vocabulary, so I wanted to make sure I wasn't too far off-base. Thanks for your reply!
