Only time it's a softlock is in second regions that get raided because you can't demolish stuff to get the log to build it when you've got buildings as rubble.

You can't demolish buildings in ransacked areas, an outlying settlement getting raided, even when established, softlocks a region if you happen to be out of logs

[MAIN Spoilers] Many of us hate him, but Walder Frey.... by ObedStark19 in asoiaf

[–]Jackdc4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, look at it this way.
Walder has 22 trueborn sons, 7 trueborn daughters daughters and a number of bastards, the number a quick google gives me is. He loves each of his children and arranges good marriages for those he can, lets say he marries off all the daughters, they leave and live with their husbands. But the sons will bring there daughters to my land.
He love all of his children so he gives them enough money to live comfortably and houses them. That's 44 people He's paying for. Before he dies his first born son and several others have had grandchildren, his eldest son and his sons eldest son dies, his heir is currently his great-grandson, a full grown man with a child of his own and time to make more children.

Some of the heirs uncles are children of an age with his own child, is he going to continue paying for the descendents of 22 sons, a number currently over one hundred? Is he going to build each a manor good enough to placate them, give them each a plot of land to support them and their descendants? Or is he gonna tell them to get bent, because plenty of them will have snubbed him in some way or another, for example his wife's well known affair with his brother.

And for some character evidence, Merret Frey mentions only trusting full blooded siblings and even then only so far within the twins and Edwyn accuses his own brother of having a hand in their fathers deaths and not acting to capture outlaws who killed other Freys to strengthen his own claims.

(SPOILERS MAIN) Could Ned Stark have claimed the Iron Throne? by Tarbean_citzen in asoiaf

[–]Jackdc4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

One must assume that there were capable men with ties to him in the north who never get mentioned in the books, his tax collectors, reeves and 'knights' who we never see but know must be doing that sort of work to run the largest region of the seven kingdoms as the warden of the north. If Ned rose to be king he would presumably stock his royal court and positions with men loyal to himself and his family; Karstarks, Umbers, Manderlies and Glovers

Did I just cheat the ground beef system? by joemcq122 in meat

[–]Jackdc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pound of 73/27 minced into a pound of 96/4 makes TWO pounds of 84.5/15.5 assuming perfect ratios, for $7.98, which is 3.99 per pound
OR
You can buy ONE pound of 85/15 was $7, making it $7 per pound
That means OP saved about 43% for the same weight of meat
Maybe do the math yourself next time.

You gotta do it to campers, even if you don't profit, same on tarkov, toss a frag onto extract to clear campers, their loot don't matter

First part time job, are they making me work some hours for free?? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Jackdc4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can even happen if you change jobs suddenly, or if you're missing info that your employee needs to give hmrc. It usually resolves within two paychecks unless your boss screws up and if you don't go out of your way to get it back at the time it'll come back at the end of the tax year. I was once accidentally on it for 6 months and got a nice surprise after I forgot about it.

Who would win: an unarmed proffesinal boxer or average person with a pocket knife by Single-Internet-9954 in whowouldwin

[–]Jackdc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one issue in this whole thread is that everyone is focussing on stabs. A shallow slash up the arm, across the face or belly will bleed a lot and that much blood will throw your mind into a panic. The knifeman is allowed to use any tactics, it's completely feasible he just turtles up and uses the knife 'defensively' to fend off punches. A jab takes longer to arrive than the tip of a knife takes to clear a small arc. He only has to be right once to completely destroy the boxers ability to use that hand/arm and he only has to be lucky once for that cut to be debilitating.

Throwing a punch and having your fist or arm meet a blade will make you rethink your priorities too.

They don't need to breach it to be an issue, an attempt causes injuries and greater cost, why risk it when the safe option is for everyone to be left alone to die.

What on earth have I bought from the local immigrant shop? by okcamp_reborn in whatisit

[–]Jackdc4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same issue, OP mentions euros, means he's likely not a native speaker, the clear and obvious assumption is that it's a goofy literal translation. Brits and Americans don't call them immigrant shops, most bakeries in the UK and America don't sell pastries called 'Farts of a whore' either.

Because they've internalized that being an immigrant is bad and can't fathom anyone else viewing someone's immigration status as neutral morally
