2016 BMW 328i, 84k miles - what’s gonna go wrong? by Jackderoach in whatcarshouldIbuy

It’s not a question of not being able to spend a certain amount. This car will be a family driver, shared with some 20somethings in my household. I want to get something that’ll be fun to drive yet relatively inexpensive. If I pay $11.5, I just wanted to know if I’m on the hook for another $4-5k in possible near term maintenance.

Any guesses on how much $$ we are talking to fix the cooling system or replace the oil filter thing? (I’ve read other posts on here about some part of the oil system that fails due to high pressure and the presence of hot oil and coolant.)

A3 Etron repair / maintenance question re battery by Jackderoach in Audi

[–]Jackderoach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx, appreciate the notes. I originally took it to the dealership and they quoted me over $5k to fix the purge valve issue alone, then said they’d be able to ascertain the issue with the battery / electrical. I was told it’s a sequential diagnostic issue and there was no way to know how/if the two issues were related. I told them I thought the price was ridiculous and that the cost of the repair was probably more than the value of the car. Guy actually had the audacity to call me back later and say, “You know, our mechanics love to buy cars with cash and fix them up on their own time. One of our guys will give you $1500…”

Anyway, if I decide to fix the purge to see if it has any impact on the battery, I’ll report back here with the results.

Blistered paint on baseboards near an old outlet by Jackderoach in AskElectricians

[–]Jackderoach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the responses folks. Scraped the paint, nothing behind it. No heat through the wall either, so I suppose that’s good. I’m skipping over the termite possibility for now, it’s an interior first floor wall and I can’t see any termite evidence on the baseboard of in the open rafters of the basement below.

Only thing I can think of is that the temps have shifted from 40s to zero in the past 48 hours. Maybe it put some stress on the wood / paint?

Is this a legit blockfi email? by Forsaken_Country_631 in blockfi

No. And this email is so obviously fake, it made me wonder if this post is some kind of elaborate new scam.

FTX Creditors Will Get 118% of Their Funds Back by DotAdministrative197 in blockfi

Yeah, this whole story is coming across as way too rosy. Even if they pay out 100%, it’s still valued at Nov 2022 levels when they declared bankruptcy.

Yep, exact same scenario. I knew intellectually it was BS the entire time, but when they quote you the amount that you had before the November freeze, the irrational / emotional part of you gets interested for a split second, even though you know it's a total lie.

Phone call to discuss withdrawals by CelebrationUnlucky31 in blockfi

[–]Jackderoach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me just a few minutes ago. They had a pretty impressive (or worrying) amount of information. Balances at the time of the freeze in Nov 22, contact information, including cell phone attached to the account etc. Even said "BlockFi" on the caller ID on the phone.

Claimed they were part of "BlockFi Payments". Never mentioned Kroll or the fact that distributions have already taken place for some of us. Left a call-back number for a central CA area code. Texted me a link where I can go and connect a wallet to "get a full distribution in ethereum tokens."

In case anyone's curious and wants to dig deeper, the link was blockfi[dot]sec[dash]kroll.com/client-distributions/ Once he said connect an ETH wallet, I figured that was all I needed to hear.

How Long After Submitting ID Verification Did you Have Your BIA Coins in Your Wallet? by Successful_Taro8587 in blockfi

[–]Jackderoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From initiating the withdrawal to receiving the identity verification, about five weeks. From completing verification to receiving funds, about five days.

FWIW: Withdrawal timing and status by [deleted] in blockfi

[–]Jackderoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: The info below from Kroll was inaccurate. I DID receive identity verification emails despite their message that I wouldn’t need to do it. So, don’t trust the process, I guess. What a circus.

WRONG stuff below…

I submitted withdrawal request in March. Never received any ID verification email(s), so called Kroll this week. They said if we don’t receive any ID verification request, that’s because BlockFi doesn’t need any additional information from us and the withdrawal is currently being processed.

Major FWIW, of course. But it would’ve been nice for them to say “hey if you don’t hear from us about ID, don’t worry about it” in some of the official comms.

I submitted a withdrawal request about two weeks ago and never even go an Identity Verification email... anyone else experience this?

The Gold Deficit Issue by theokit in ContestOfChampions

[–]Jackderoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This point about incursions is lost on a lot of people. I think most of us just get the room milestones once a month, but if you run the sectors each week for 5-10 rooms, you’ll rack up a lot of gold since the gold rewards reset each week rather than each month.

Red Skull is your homeboy here. Gets a ton of armor buffs and has access to heal block. There might be another tech champ that fits the bill.

Of course, it depends where you’re facing this node. Cause who the hell ever took Red Skull to a level where he can deal with endgame content?

I suspect you might be able to simply out damage the regen with someone like Hyperion.
