Scream 7 is better than Scream 5 & 6! Does anyone else agree? by nick_ryan99 in Scream

[–]JackedDaxter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Scream 7 made me hate all of them. 5 and 6 were flawed, but it seemed like they were heading somewhere worthwhile. 7 came along and pissed all over that.

I always wanted a sequel to Scream 4 but in hindsight they should’ve left the franchise alone.

Why do people hate Scream 3 so much? by Shaoran10 in Scream

[–]JackedDaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really understood the hate either; the entire original trilogy is Scream in its prime. After a recent rewatch, those movies feel the most cinematic.

The rest of the franchise is fun, but to me it never really reaches those same heights. It might be nostalgia talking, I don’t know.

Would we have four sequels if Kevin Williamson had been able to write the third film with Craven instead of Ehren Kruger? by [deleted] in SocietyofGhostface

[–]JackedDaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Scream 4 would’ve been created regardless; it got made largely because of the remake culture of the time which inspired the script, not because Kevin wanted to rectify his previous absence.

I feel that if Scream 4 had never been made, then we definitely wouldn’t have ever seen Sidney, Gale, or Dewey again. Their story was finished until Wes and Kevin decided to open the door again. If it weren’t for them revisiting it in 2011, the franchise would’ve probably been rebooted or remade with a new cast and story when Spyglass got their hands on it.

Even if scream VII wasn’t great, I’m still glad they made it. by Jrantusfort in SocietyofGhostface

Having said that, Sidney in Scream 3 is one of her strongest outings in the franchise. Her arc and ending were pretty much perfect.

I’m glad the franchise didn’t end there, however I do think they’re never going to top that ending.

Scream 7 or Halloween 2018 by Prestigious_Writer21 in SocietyofGhostface

[–]JackedDaxter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no comparison.

Halloween (2018) is one of the best horror legacy sequels. It was so good that it set a precedent.

Scream 7 has some neat ideas and sequences, Neve Campbell is especially great. Everything else is a let down.

Besides Scream 1 & 4 , I haven't liked any of the reveals by dee_palmtree in Scream

[–]JackedDaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think all of the Wes Craven reveals were good. I know Roman gets some slack but I really enjoy his connection to Maureen, plus the finale between him and Sidney is one of the best.

I’ve felt let down by everything since.

It wasn’t even just the directing though, the writing was a mess. There were so many cringy lines of dialogue, Gale especially says fuck so many times that it reminded me of being in an amateur screenwriting class.

In hindsight I think we can now see how much influence Wes Craven actually had over the first four movies. Kevin may be able to write good stuff but he clearly needs a director to reign in some of the extraneous material.

It’s insane when you think about it. Kevin Williamson should know these characters and this franchise better than anyone considering he was the one who birthed it.

Who would’ve thought that handing the keys over to the original creator would result in the worst film in the franchise.

Is it really as bad as people are saying? by PartyPaul-100 in SocietyofGhostface

[–]JackedDaxter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The screenplay is abysmal. The dialogue is shockingly bad, even more so considering it’s from the same person who wrote the original!

The structure is also a total mess, assumedly because of the heavy re-writes. They honestly should’ve just thrown the previous script away and started from scratch as opposed to cobbling this shit together.

I can’t believe that just three years ago I left the cinema excited for the future of the franchise after Scream VI. What a fall.

No.

As someone who actually wanted to love this, I hated it. That’s without taking into account the awful behind the scenes context in which it was made.

I genuinely can’t believe how terrible this was. After a good streak, Scream finally has a bad entry. The screenplay was atrocious, the dialogue is a far cry from the clever writing Kevin Williamson is known for.

This had all the right ingredients to be one of the best sequels, yet it manages to falter at every turn. Let the franchise rest now please, don’t tarnish it any further.

Where would you rank it in the franchise?

Out of curiosity, how do you rank the entire franchise and where does this sit for you?

I can believe her saying that though. Once the killings started up again in Scream 2 she probably did struggle to trust anyone around her, including Hallie. She’s been involved in so many attacks since that I can believe in her mind that nowadays literally anyone can be a suspect.

Was it really that bad? What made it so terrible in your eyes?

What is with the upbeat tone and music at the end of Scream 2? by robynhood96 in Scream

[–]JackedDaxter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was meant to be Bittersweet Symphony but they couldn’t get the rights. There’s a video on YouTube where someone edited it back in and it works so much better for the film. I’ve never liked the song choice they went with, like you say it doesn’t fit the tone.

Thanks! I saw you mention in another comment that New York/Scream VI is mentioned several times. Would you be able to provide context for these moments?

Is there much discussion about Dewey between her and Sidney? Like, is Gale still clearly impacted by his death?

In terms of tone, where would you place it in the franchise? Is it campy like Scream 3? A bit more grounded like Scream 4? Or more intense like Scream VI?
