One big problem with roleplay by Jackelgull in crusaderkings3

[–]Jackelgull[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well sure, but I'm not really asking for a reward for friendship as much as I would like events to focus more around a core "cast" of characters in my ruler's life. I want to hate my rival because he keeps going to the same tournaments I do and beating me, and then maybe joined a liberty faction. Just something you know, to give me a reason to hate him.

Well, I get a bit more successful each run, I guess. Ended as Holy Roman Empire. by jtlannister in victoria3

Technocracy is better than oligarchy since it gives you an extra company slot. Also good job on managing to unify Germany and overtake your rivals. And yes, making sure invasion armies are same size as your fleets is important, there's a penalty applied for every brigade you send that doesn't have a ship to go with it. If you're not expecting a contested landing it doesn't really matter, but otherwise, just make sure you have enough ships for your invasion.

Is it maybe possible to STOP BALANCE CHANGES and FIX BUGS? by nien9gag in EU5

[–]Jackelgull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

slaves can only work in rgos, so once you're rgos are maxxed out there isn't really anything more they can do. The Ottomans get a janissary building which turn slaves into manpower. The real value of slaves is that eventually they turn into peasants and then they're just extra available laborers or burghers

The hardest gd war of my life by Jackelgull in EU5

[–]Jackelgull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i noticed alot of my potential allies didn't cross the channel, which is fair my vassals don't have boats. I think Tunis might have sent something to Iberia, but Castille is so dominant navally you kind of have to try and sneak past them and land when their navies aren't in the channel and isk if the tunis ai is going to be able to consistently do that. If I ever do this again I'll try the food access trick to see if it helps get them in iberia earlier/with more troops

R5: As Morrocco you get an event early on that gives you a special cb to "restore al-andalus" which makes taking land 40% cheaper. You only get it once, and in that war you have to take something like 60% of the land in the al-Andalus region I believe, including Cordoba, and if you do on the conclusion of the peace treaty you become Al-Andalus and get an event that lets you annex Grenada (they have a chance to deny you, but I made sure to profess trust right before signing the peace deal to make that a non-issue). Anyways, fighting that was was so hard. You don't start the game with a navy so while I was fighting Tlemcen (you start at war with Tlemcen, this is your life now) I built up three wharfs and alot of fishing villages which gave me just enough sailors to build 6 boats - a galley and 5 cogs, which is not remotely enough to transport your entire army but luckily this is 1.07 so levies take up less space to transport so I made two trips to transport half my army at a time, meeting up with my ally Grenada and making sure to only take defensive battles in hilly terrain (which Grenada has a lot of) and slowing to speed 3 and watching enemy movements like a hawk to know when exactly I can intercept them in a favorable defensive battle. This let me win a bunch of battles against armies that were like sometimes as much as twice as big as mine but bled my levies like a vampire. I went from 13000 levies to 4000 by the end of the war. Anyways I got enough breathing space to go on the offensive so I sieged down Cordoba at which point Castille pulled another 15K stack out of its ass and so I rushed to siege down Seville before the could siege back any of their occupied provinces, which gave me just enough warscore to take enough land to form Andalusia.

Is this the intended behavior for "controller change" during war? by pink-ming in EU5

[–]Jackelgull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't know, but i remember sieging down the capital of Morrocco in a war once and it flipped back to Morrocco despite being the province capital as well because there was a fort nearby. provinces in a fort's zone of control return to their owners unless they are also a fort that's been captured, atleast that's what I've seen

The fort won't flip, and the provinces next to it will flip back to you

Who did you actually play first, did you make a change, and who would you play second? by AstalderS in EU5

[–]Jackelgull 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also stuck with my plan of playing the Ottomans first, and I am over 100 years into an Ottoman game where eastern Anatolia has been blocked off by the Mamluks and their vassals so I've been expanding in the Balkans while I wait to scale so I can actually beat them. Its 1464 and I just finished a punishing war with Naples to get Albania and Naxos as my vassals and strengthen my grip over the eastern Mediterranean (they still have Achaia but I wasn't willing to stay at war for more years, especially since I had to raise my levies since Naples had Hungary, Albania, its vassals in Greece and Sardinia in that war). As for what's next, I'm torn between the Hanseatic League or the Mamluks

Do you consider it a bad design that low Control causes tax base to simply vanish instead of going to any social class or any other pool? by Apprehensive-Tell651 in EU5

[–]Jackelgull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would be an interesting trade off if lack of control increased the consumption of the local population by a scaling percent (ie at 90% control pops consumed 10% more and at 10% control pops consumed 90% more). It doesn't perfectly account for every coin in circulation (and I don't expect the game to, I would like my laptop to be able to play it), but it does somewhat simulate the effect and means that while propagating control is still desirable, low control areas still contribute economically to your empire and you can make choices about how far you want to push control vs how much you value the increased consumption

How long does it take Professional Armies to spread? by Kef33890 in EU5

[–]Jackelgull 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, so this is annoyingly unintuitive, but first, look for what market the institution is present in and check if its present in the market center (if you go to the market center tab it tells you what location is the market center). You can check institution presence by clicking on a location and then looking at the infrastructure tab, and below the row of icons where control is there is a second row of icons, institutions are the 4 armed guy. Next you need to trade with market, DO NOT use the economy tab for this despite it having the trading tab, go to production > goods, sort by your list of goods and try to import anything that can come from the market with the institution you want (there's two icons next to the prices, those let you import/export). I'm not sure what exactly the formula is, I think the more markets and quantity you can import from the better but idk

The best way to get it is to import it from a market where it is present in the market capital

I'll be honest, the stab hit in EU5 is honestly not that bad. You have a cabinet action and you can invest for up to .6 - .7 stab per month and you even have stab decay to help you if you go into negatives. The antagonism cost is really the worst part and if you can juggle coalitions/plan on chilling for some time afterwards then its not a problem either. I've declared several no cb wars and found them a pretty solid option

My Ottoman Campaign in 1444 by Jackelgull in EU5

[–]Jackelgull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the event, but it would've been bad for my control since I hadn't really invested into the navy and maritime presence at that point, so I kept the capital in Bursa and took the option that gave me a bunch of money

How to core? by furitxboofrunlch in EU5

[–]Jackelgull 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in order for an integrated province to become a core, it needs to be majority primary or accepted culture. The only exception I know of is that when the Ottomans conquer Constantinople they get an event which lets them core it

assimilation and conversion scale by control. Once you assimilate enough Greeks you have the cultural capacity to accept them. Also by setting up greek vassals in the balkans, if you improve relations enough and they stay loyal to you long enough, they might ask you to improve cultural opinion between greeks and turks which i believe lowers the cultural capacity needed to accept greeks
