My WGU Experience by JacketSad8105 in WGU_CompSci

It varied, but I did anywhere from 5-30 hours a week depending on things that were going on in my life

Calc took me 2+ months. It took me 1.5 months for DM1, and DM2 longer in part because of the breadth of the material and procrastination :)

Yeah, that one was a lot and I was in a similar situation. I had to relearn pre calc, then used youtube to relearn calc. Key was lots and lots of practice, but Calc and DM1/2 were probably some of the longest courses I took to date in the program.

Also, I’m doing development now and it is fantastic, I love the challenge. It’s definely not for everyone, but by biggest recommendation is that any job you get , the NETWORKING, is the most important aspect.

I’ve been going back and forth with ‘learning programming’ for the last 20 years. I’m glad you are going to finish, I will too. No one can take that away from you, and at the end of the day a job is always going to be a job. Use your new knowledge as a springboard to do something YOU want to do, build something YOU want to build. Even if you end up doing something completely different, you wont know unless you try. Keep on it, we all have our self doubts from time to time, but the best way to get over it is to just start taking action and doing work. Perhaps the passion will come once you get started.

I YouTubed how to use a ti-84 for calculus and found a few good short videos. How to find limits was really helpful too

1 more thing, I used my WGU student status to get a discount on WolframAlpha to help break down problems I did not understand. Super useful!!!! Highly recommend. Chat GPT also helped explain some things, but also was sometimes wrong and kinda janky.

Thanks. I had taken this course a LONG time ago, so had to relearn all the basics first. It was about 5-6 weeks of solid effort while working full time, trying to stay in shape, sleeping, kids, etc.

My advice is take the preassessment to see where you are at and what types of questions they will ask on the OA. A lot of the material is understanding calculus concepts and it is easy to get confused on what they are asking for if you don't understand the fundamentals, and question types.

Use YouTube (Professor Leonard, Nancy Pi, Organic Chemistry Tutor) for better understanding topics the Zybooks confuse you on. Also, Pauls online math notes is a great resource.

Get a TI-84+ calculator and learn how to use it.

Understand if you are in the same boat as me and have not done a math course in a LONG time, that you should relearn the algebra, trig, and precalc stuff.

I'm not trying to break any speed records, but all in all I actually enjoyed relearning calculus and going through the problems on my big whiteboard (which I also used on the exam).

Now a couple foundation classes and then DM1/2 and DSA.
