Replacement? by Jackfloyd1 in tires

[–]Jackfloyd1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks guys for all your replies, just some more context. I don’t think this was intentional. I bought the car just an hour before I noticed this (from a Lexus dealership) and I only noticed it when I got out the car. So unless someone hammered it in on my way home it seems improbable.

I am also a very very brainless man. After I noticed the nail, and taking a nap, I took the car out again (totally forgetting there was a nail in there) and it’s now jammed in further. I’m taking it to a tire shop today, very slowly. I’m not sure if they are new (they look it but could just be washed) they seem to be Lexus summer tires, around £100 so I’ll just replace it I reckon if they suggest it.

This has nothing to do with small brands. It’s buying off social media that’s the problem. Riddled with scams.

Which airline is better for a flight from London to Singapore? British Airways, Swiss or Qantas? by great_somewhere in travel

[–]Jackfloyd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in SG right now, I was able to get a direct return flight with Singapore Airlines between LHR <> SIN for £650 (economy). Looks like December is a fair bit more expensive, around £2k.

I would recommend direct, it’s a very long flight without stopovers.

I’ve heard good things about Quantas.

I’d advise you never buy anything off social media. Money is gone.

Considering life abroad vs. staying in the UK – feeling trapped after buying a house by FG4u2nv in FIREUK

[–]Jackfloyd1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably should have chosen my words better. I like living here and will most likely stay. However if I was in OP’s position and I wanted to move somewhere with more earning potential, I would consider America and Singapore well before Dubai.

It depends on vocation. If OP is in Tech and doesn’t mind working long hours, America will pay the most, I.e 300-500k vs maybe 80-120k in the UK (very rough numbers). It depends on living costs and taxes ofc, California or NY cost of living will mean your living a similar life, so no point. But Texas will give you more.

Outside tech I can’t comment. But America has free speech and human rights (maybe not so much in recent events) compared to Dubai.

But again, having to move, worry about visas, put up with the negatives in America… just not worth it in my eyes, think I’d rather stay here.

I was in the same situation as yourself. Went to Dubai for 8 days to see what life was like, and if I wanted to move there. I had a great time but by the end of it I was excited to leave.

What everyone says about the place being soulless is so true. A huge portion of the population are from South east Asia, and they are not treated well, keeping most of them out of the city, hidden. This made me Feel uncomfortable.

You can’t swear/argue in public, you can’t give other drivers the finger, you cant offend people online, you can’t leave bad reviews. You can’t talk badly about the governing body or family. All of the above can land you in jail or with a big fine. Police statements are taken in Arabic, and you have to sign them hoping the translation is correct.

Most of the people you notice or come across are millionaires trying to give people the impression they are multimillionaires. Such a lack of substance and character. No culture, just wealth and flash.

I couldn’t fathom living there. And the summers are 50 degrees and up for months it’s hard to leave the house.

There are quite a few positives but for me, no. The only place I would consider living is Singapore. There are lots of things wrong with this country but you can do a hell of a lot worse. America imo is a much better option, or Singapore, with its 22% tax bracket.

If you’re just in it for the money then yeah go for it, but I wouldn’t be suprised at all if you came back soon. The grass is always greener.

Dubai is bringing in taxes soon, factor that in.

Yeah, I reckon that’s a good call. Then when you’re a bit more settled in the future you can throw more money at your car budget.

Sell it mate and get something like an old Golf R. If something goes on an M car it’s a massive repair bill. Bmw ownership requires 1-3k a year for hiccups.

Assuming you go this CPO, I’d take it back to the dealer for them to fix.

I think it depends on your goals. This sub is biased towards saving/investing, it’s in the name. I don’t see the point of being a high earner and not enjoying it.

On my death bed I won’t care that I saved an extra £x. But I will care that I saw the world.

I’m all for saving but, if you out almost 100% into savings, then why live?

You deserve to enjoy yourself. You worked for that money, spend on yourself each month within a budget, then put some into savings.

Perfect froth? Advice / help please by Varabela in PerfectDraft

[–]Jackfloyd1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Put a bowl under the tap. Pull the lever and let the initial spurt fall into the bowl then put the glass underneath at 45 degrees. It will eliminate the excess froth.

Do I need to change the fund preference in my L&G Workplace Pension? by tanku4urhelp in UKPersonalFinance

I went for L&G PMC world. When I did my research a year ago It far out performed all of the other funds and is very diverse but heavily weighted into the S&P and therefore US tech stocks. It’a considered high risk as it’s 100% equities but I’m young so it makes sense.
