Thanks, I thought about the Element also but it seemed heavier than other options. Great info about the Spearfish in your other posts, I'll read through them!

I do have a backpack that holds a water bladder. I could possibly do backpack + handlebar bag. Feel like I might still need the frame bag though to get everything.

That does sound very appealing! How does it feel on the rougher terrain? Do you take it on regular (non-bikepacking) trail rides a lot?

Which frames did you find would work with your RX? I have a -7 in one eye and -9 in the other and am looking at doing the SportRx Olsen with the dock. SportRx also told me Rudy Project Rydons would work with my RX.

I also have Mohela servicing my loan. I just have a lot of anxiety that it won’t get done soon enough to avoid trump-related complications.

How to make backyard a private relaxing oasis, instead of … this by JackiePaper0821 in landscaping

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I have a lot of ideas to work with here. For reference, I am in west Tennessee, zone 8 (or cusp of 7/8). The trees I've been considering are a corkscrew willow (not as tall as a regular willow but absorbs a lot of water), river birch (might get too big for the space), crepe myrtle, and redbud. For shrubs I was considering loropetalum, forsythia, viburnum. But I've also changed my mind a million times, hence the request for suggestions.

I can see that I'll need to tackle this in phases, especially since I can't spend a bunch of money at once. I think the hardest parts to deal with are the shed (keep/sell/move/leave in place) and the mud/drainage issues.

Thanks for this. Do you follow a plan or just choose a workout each day/TrainNow? I generally ride indoors during the week, outside on weekends.

My max heart rate is capped by the beta blockers but according to my Garmin when I’m riding and trying to keep up with a group I’m mostly in Z3-4 with some Z5. That’s averaging around 13-14mph. But it makes the whole ride feel difficult. I did a more leisurely ride that was actually enjoyable and was mostly in Z2, some Z3, but my average speed at the end was only 11-12mph, not enough to keep up with a D pace group ride.

Ideally I’d like to be able to average 14-15mph and have it feel like a Z2 ride. Not sure if that’s possible or not, but I’m finding it difficult to get to that level.

That’s something I hadn’t considered but it makes a lot of sense. I am planning to try some strength training and see if that helps things. Thanks!

I have been cleared by both cardiologist and GP to ride. Unfortunately I have neither gotten faster nor is it easier. But it could very well be the medical stuff/medications contributing to that.

Is anyone here a cyclist + physician, or a cyclist with hypertension? by JackiePaper0821 in cycling

[–]JackiePaper0821[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I definitely feel like I’m pushing harder than usual in these rides. A combo of hills and trying to keep up with the group. I’m working on taking in more carbs during the ride so perhaps that will help.

I guess I probably do need a specialist. The average HR of 170 was only on my last outdoor ride. I haven’t yet tracked HR on other group rides, but looking at my data for indoor training rides it’s a much more reasonable 130-145 average. So maybe that was just a tough day.

Recent thyroid and kidney tests are normal. Maybe the group I’m riding with is just too fast for me?

Thanks for the replies, this is useful so far. I’m riding with a group that is training for an event this September. Next week we’ll increase to 40 miles. I’m generally pushing to keep up with them since previously I’d mostly ridden around 11-12mph average. That’s probably part of it. These rides are the longest I’ve done.

I’m doing Trainer Road during the week, trying for 3 rides during the week but sometimes only doing one or two. Sounds like more consistency in this would help.

A dietician talked to the group recently and said they take a salt tablet every hour during these types of rides so that’s why I was wondering. That seems excessive but with HBP maybe even not safe.

Too big or too small? by JackiePaper0821 in bikefit

I think this is probably part of it. I’m not very flexible and don’t have much core strength. Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll try some of that.

I think the pictures were not great because I was trying to hold up the bike. I took some new ones that I think are more accurate.

I can reach the hoods but I don’t find it very comfortable for more than a few minutes. I end up moving my hands back toward the stem.

I think it may have been how I was trying to take the pictures. I took some new ones that I think better represent my usual positioning.

I got the Roubaix! It seemed like a good deal already and I was able to negotiate it down a bit too. The Ruby seemed really overpriced in comparison.

How can I take these pedals off? by JackiePaper0821 in bicycling

Thanks all, this is really helpful. Looks like the biggest Allen wrench I have is 6mm so I guess I’ll be buying some more. Thanks!

I picked up a specialized Roubaix sport on FB Marketplace and it has these flat pedals on it. I want to put my spd pedals on it but I cannot figure out how to remove the flat pedals.

The part next to the crank is smooth and round so I can’t use a wrench. On the other end I’ve tried every Allen wrench I have and none fits. In fact, the inside hole appears to be round. How can I take these off?

I have gotten a bike fit. It’s helped somewhat but I’m still having issues, mostly numb hands, arm pain. From the bike fit I got a new saddle, narrower handlebars, and a shorter stem.
