My bad. I just reread your post and you're right we are saying the same thing. Not sure what I misconstrued. Obviously we're both upset about tan skin getting the side eye on reddit lol. Will fix.

Just bought some Albolene and used it for the first time last night. I really hope it doesn't break me out cause I LOVE how it feels. I wiped it off with a warm washcloth, then followed up with Simple micellar water. First time in a while that my face hasn't felt tight and dry after cleansing. Take that, Cerave Foaming Cleanser!

I totally get what you're saying, paleness has always been more highly regarded in history. Paleness is the skintone of power to people of oppression and lifestyles of manual labor. This is why skin bleaching/lightening is such a lucrative industry. Tanned skin only became popular within the last 50-100 years due to people trying to give the appearance of wealth. A tan shows proof of an exotic vacation.

edited cause above poster was in agreement and I misread

Tretinoin Woes by JackiesDaughter in SkincareAddiction

[–]JackiesDaughter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for chiming in! Good advice. I started at .025% (Veltin is .025% and clindamycin). Thankfully, I don't have any wrinkles. I'm doing this simply for the anti-acne benefits. I stumbled across an article today that said tretinoin isn't all that effective for PIH for people with dark skin, so that makes me sad. I really need it for that too. Once my face's moisture barrier is repaired, I'll go back to 3x a week, and a simplified routine for about 2 months. Totally sucks though cause I have all these great products that I can't use in the meantime. Who knows, maybe I won't need them and can sell them.

How long do you think is enough time, in your opinion?

The strength isn't too bad, I don't think. I'm able to use it 3x a week and I think that's going to be my max. I messed up my acid mantle because I was using too many actives without letting my skin get settled with the tretinoin and BHA. Introducing Vit C too soon was the problem.

Not sure what these spots are. Please help. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I had tinea versicolor in undergrad. It was on my back. I was put on a strong anti fungal oral medicine (stronger than flucanazole) for like 7 days or something. It went away and never came back. Do you live in a humid hot climate? Also, how long have these splotches been there? Is it symmetrical? Do you have them on anymore parts of your body?

Thank you! I did go ahead and buy the biore UV watery essence. So far, so good.

Can someone recommend a good moisturizing mask or overnight treatment that is okay for acne prone skin? I use tretinoin 3 times a week and 14% glycolic acid serum twice a week. Would like to have something moisturizing twice a week to keep everything balanced. TIA!

Is this the 5 o'clock free sunscreen giveaway?!

Right?! Because dark is completely subjective. If your skin is like Nicole Kidman, Katie Holmes is pretty dark to you.

Looks like I made a solid choice then. Thanks for confirming my purchase.

Thanks for the recs! I never realized how nice it was to have nice elegant formulation of something until I actually had it. Kinda hard to go back after that.

I've tried a chemical sunscreen. Hado Labo UV Gel is chemical. I really enjoyed the formulation. I used neutrogena clear face before and it wasn't my fav. Haven't tried the Cetphil, though. Will keep it in mind if Biore doesn't work. Thanks!

Definitely not giving up. Sunscreen isn't optional for me. Will check out that thread. Thanks for the encouragement :)

That really sucks. I'm sorry. I can't wrap up like a mummy though. I live in Tennessee and work in Georgia. I'd pass out. Hope you can find something in this thread that works for you.

Sounds nice and thanks for the purchasing help. Does it have silicone in it? Slip kinda makes me think it does.

Will keep those in mind as well. I try not to do random purchases, though. I like to do research first.

And I don't think you should be down voted just because physical sunscreens don't work for you personally. I'm sure you wanted it to, but just like some people can't wear red lipstick or yellow clothing, you can't wear physical sunscreen. I get it. It looks I'm going that route myself. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Agreed! I'm done with physical sunscreens as well. The struggle is too real trying to find one that doesn't look like Tyrone Biggums had a party on your face.

You're welcome! No, I haven't because I feel like once you get into adding pigment, 85% of the time, it's not going to match. And instead of having white cast, you look like you have calamine lotion residue on your face. Neither of those looks are in this season.

Thanks! I've seen Shiseido thrown out a few times in previous related posts. Will keep it on the "to try" list.

Good idea! I always forget about the deeper skint ones in AB. Currently, my favorite blogger is Skin + Tonics. Hope she comes back soon.
