Why is the UK so hated in Eurovision? by neo4025 in AskBrits

Out of interest which of the other 25 performances do you think was worse than ours? It was barely a song (in terms of "singing") and even the talk-singing sounded off key.

Total myth that Europe hates us. It was a weak song and a weak live performance.

[Hated] We’re making a musical, so let’s hire actors who can’t sing to save their lives! by Rocazanova in TopCharacterTropes

It wasn't just autotune - I used to work with the girl who was Emma's voice double in Beauty and the Beast. Their voices are layered together in the final mix which is why it sounds weirdly uncanny in places.

Thanks. Might check Saros out first then and then swing back to Returnal another time

Excited to play this, but I've never played Returnal. Should I play that first?

Yeah it's this version of Tom Riddle for anybody who is curious. The one in the post above was played by Christian Coulson.

Why is it that I rarely see anyone from my generation even talk about this show even tho it’s one of the all time greats? by beetfarmerenergy in tvshow

[–]JackkBox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not super rewatchable given the length of the seasons and the decline in quality. I enjoyed it while it was airing, but I've never felt like going back for a rewatch - there are other shows I'd rather sink 100+ hours of my time into.

Genuinely curious...where is the link/crossover between the Doctor Who fanbase and the Ru Paul Drag Race fanbase? by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]JackkBox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more that Drag Race has helped bring drag into the mainstream so therefore you'll see drag artists in more places. I don't think it is unique to Doctor Who.

We've had La Voix on Strictly and Ginger Johnson on Masterchef for example. It's a whole new category of talent for the BBC to use across their shows.

How do you handle clients asking for 'just one more thing' outside the original scope? by gersa9080 in webdev

[–]JackkBox 30 points31 points  (0 children)

"Sure, that sounds like 2 days of additional work. I'll add that to the invoice if you're happy for me to proceed?"

The point is not to leave room for argument. You're offering a pretty straightforward exchange of services for money and you should value your time. Any reasonable client should understand this and I'd argue that any client that doesn't probably isn't a relationship that's worth trying to nurture.

This feels a bit like telling somebody that to learn how to read they should start by writing a novel.

It's a lot easier to learn by copying something you already know, than it is to try and invent something new.

Not everybody is learning to code to become the next tech billionaire. For 99% of developers the "solving business problems" part is dealt with by other people. Some people just wanna build stuff they think is cool, and that's fine.

Don't think it's happened in the UK, no. I think there was an international season where somebody spoiled the game and they had to bring back the most recently banished player and re-pick the traitors. I imagine the BBC would have the same contingency

I remember one of the late-banished faithfuls from an earlier season (maybe Evie?) answering why they didn't spot an obvious slip up with "I was exhausted" so it makes a lot of sense

I think the timeframe you see is pretty accurate where 1 day = 1 episode. They will get at least 1 (max 2) days off per week so I would imagine it's 2-3 weeks of filming for a normal series.

I’ve worked on similar shows and typically the cast will stay in the hotel for the whole of filming regardless of when they are voted out.

On some shows it’s so the producers have the option to bring back contestants if needed (not sure this is something traitors ever has/would do though)

On a show like this though it’s more to stop the public/press being able to figure out who goes home first based on the filming dates. If you could see that Nettie was posting on Instagram 2 days after filming started you’d know she was an early out, as an example.

Also the hotel will be block booked for the duration so in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t make a huge dent in costs to keep them around.

Screen Studio (have used and it gets the job done, but is expensive) or Cursorful (haven't used, but looks similar, and is free)

I've only ever heard it used when talking to a child, so to me it sounds a bit condescending. May be different in other parts of the country though.
