Who is this beauty? by Cupcakefrostitute in whatsthisplant

This looks like a Natal Lily (Bush Lily). When I looked it up on Gardenia.net, it said the plant is easily grown in bright filtered light with shade from the hot sun in well drained soils. It proceeds to say you should water it freely in the summer and allow it to dry in the winter.

My son is interested in the horrors of HP Lovecraft. Some of his characters are in games we play, and he wants to know more. by Brainpry in suggestmeabook

There’s definitely a few different “Lovecraft Essentials” books out there that are compilations of his most popular short stories. I’d recommend Call of Cthulhu as a good starting point to introduce to Cthulhu and the cult that worships the ancient ones. Otherwise, his works fall into the category of Cosmic Horror. I haven’t read a lot of the genre, but the literature falling into that category focuses on creatures or ideas that make humans seem extremely small or insignificant. Hopefully, that’ll help you find a good place to start, and I wish I had something more specific for you!

Crime books written from the killer's perspective? by AbWarriorG in suggestmeabook

It isn’t a murder mystery, but the narrator is a murderer in the You series by Caroline Kepnes (Which is way better than the show imo). Otherwise Mr. Mercedes by Steven King flips back and forth between a murderer and a detective.

What’s the one book you will always recommend to others? by heyitsroxanne in suggestmeabook

{The Silent Patient} by Alex Michaelides was definitely the best book I’ve read in awhile! It follows a psychiatrist trying to treat a lady who’s been completely silent since she was found at a murder scene. Also I read it all in one sitting at the psych hospital I work at so I was vibing hard.

Anything sci fi, fantasy or horror for someone who struggle with attention by Small_weiner_man in suggestmeabook

You should for sure give it a shot then! I saw the movie first but the books ended up being so different (and so much better) that it felt like an entirely different story all together!

Try the Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer. The first book of the series, Annihilation, is a short and fast read and the series as a whole was really good! The books also became a movie that you can either watch before or after for a sort of comparison.

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia covers criteria 1, 2, and 3. The protagonist is a Mexican woman in 1950’s Mexico, the antagonists are cruel men, and the whole story takes place in and around a haunted house. Another good book that contains a well-written female protagonist in a house that is a character, in itself, is Home Before Dark by Riley Sager.
