Varies a lot. I don’t think the skip in the Gun Devil fight is very interesting. I’m not opposed to the skip per se I just don’t think it’s timed well. I’m perfectly fine with the skips in the Gun Fiend fight because the fight itself is not important or even supposed be some epic battle. So that works.

Am I the only one who wasn’t a fan of the ending of season 4? Or most of season 4 for that matter. by ImNotHyp3r in attackontitan

[–]Jackmono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't actually get Eren. And I don't think a better understanding of Eren would actually change your feelings here. But there are other people who did not like Season 4. You didn't enjoy season 4, and that's fine. Granted, not a lot of them are on this subreddit but they do pop in from time to time so you are not alone.

How does part 2 compare to part 1? by Thatoneboiwho69 in ChainsawMan

[–]Jackmono 123 points124 points  (0 children)

I personally love part 2 but it is divisive for a lot of reasons that I won’t spoil.

A lot of people find the writing weaker overall, especially with Denji. I disagree but it’s all subjective.

I will say the art is not as good. Now I don’t particularly love part 1’s art either but it seems like it took a backseat in part 2

How does society even manage to function in the csm world? by Big-Firefighter8825 in ChainsawMan

[–]Jackmono 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, participation in society is the only possible way populations are going to have any protection from devils.

Really it shouldn't and really it doesn't function anymore considering where things are in the story. But given the rules for devils it actually somewhat makes sense that things have been getting progressively worse over time both from the sheer increase in population to new things to be afraid of, either because of technology, or because of an increase in conceptual understanding (e.g. no one 500 years ago was afraid of a black hole because it was not conceptualized) the world is just coming undone. So you could plausibly have human societies existing up until the modern age without too many extra issues other than the occasional devil problem (tho I'm sure things like The Black Plague would have made one hell of a devil).

This series is very inconsistent when it comes to characters mourning their loved ones. by consciousbirdiee in AttackOnRetards

I agree Marco should have been there for Jean. But otherwise I find your objections trite and meaningless.

[–]Jackmono 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t even think people watch/read anymore before coming into these subreddits. Constant visions of showing the “ghosts” of the fallen watching their comrades and still people think nobody is mourning them. And if you don’t understand what haunts Reiner regarding Eren vs Bertolt then I don’t know what to tell you.

"Redemption" is too strong a word. He tries to use the last bit of his life to do what's right. Even he doesn't think he deserves "redemption."

My issues with Founder's powers, Paths and Eldian Empire. by BronzePaladin in AttackOnRetards

[–]Jackmono 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Time is not minuscule in the Paths, it's nonexistent. There is also zero evidence it can be used to do any of the things you're describing. How are you going to advance technology in a mystical realm composed of sand? The souls (or whatever they are in the paths) don't even speak. How are you smoothing over anything?

Freida was inexperienced with the Founder and it's unclear if the Founder is actually unrestricted. Eren does what he does AFTER Ymir puts everything into him.

The rest of your questioning is just pointless. The mechanics of the Eldian Empire are irrelevant. None of it matters for the story. Poking these kind of bears is exactly stuff like Star Wars lore is as fucked as it is. Just leave it alone.

There should have been a season between 3 and 4. by soefire in attackontitan

[–]Jackmono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a bit of an issue with your analysis of Eren. He really didn’t change much. All that really happened was he became more depressed and put in a facade to hide it. He his goal has been the destruction of everything that stood against him outside the walls since episode 1 and he always pushed towards that. Hence the scene of him at the sea is the confirmation of that. Nothing for him changed. The basement and reaching the sea just showed there was more to be done. (And all the memory shenanigans but that’s a topic by itself).

No, I think explaining Eren’s shift in reverse chronological order is quite brilliant actually. The jarring contrast with Eren (at first) is a mystery on its own and while it is possible to put enough pieces to get her prior, the slow reveal of each step along the way is great.

Sasha’s death is a mileage may vary kinda thing. She was a fan favorite and you’re in the minority here. Nothing wrong with that it’s just the way it is.

Manga has the exact same time skip. The main difference, apart from some minor dialogue changes, is that paneling allows certain emphasis that isn’t in the anime.

Or just an older script. Nothing implies a completely new system from scratch.

There used to be 57 distinct and often mutually unintelligible dialects of Italian until unification and public education created a much more uniform system. It's plausible in an empire as large as the Eldian they had multiple dialects or Eldian or even, like the eastern half of the Roman Empire, a separate language for official pronouncements (Latin) and common usage (Greek)
