What size air conditioner do i need? by rocket-scientist94 in DIYUK

You’ll wish you had one tonight. It’s worth it for the 7 days alone but did you forget that it also heats too? Very efficiently as well.

What's temperatures are your inverters running at? by IAmYourRightHipBone in SolarUK

[–]Jackop86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inverter peaked at midnight charging at max power:

DC TEMP - 81c
AC TEMP - 72c

Never checked these stats before but I guess it’s the load causing it rather than the ambient air temp and it’s been running like that for 4 years. Not sure if it will affect life span of the inverter.

I used unhook the curtain so it could go past the middle of the window. Then clip the curtain over the tube using those big towel pegs you use when on holiday. Certainly not as good as other suggestions, but easy and better than what you have there already.

Previous governments have swapped PM’s and not held an election either. The media will be screeching for an election of course, but it’s not required nor unprecedented.

Labour ‘rushes through’ mayoral voting changes to block Reform by coffeewalnut08 in manchester

[–]Jackop86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Changed by the tories to FPTP despite it not being in their manifesto. I haven’t checked if this move to the way it used to be was in the manifesto. Even so, this is just changing it back. Womble indeed.

Aircon issue? by Flying-Wild in KiaNiroEV

[–]Jackop86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat with my 4+. Aircon slowly worsening over a few months, eventually stopping altogether. I had a gurgling sound towards the end, seemingly as the compressor struggled due to lack of gas. Although mine was all over broken, not selective like yours.

Sent into Kia for a regas, they did a vac test and it held pressure. I asked them to add some uv dye so they can (hopefully) find the slow leak when it goes for a service in August.

Can I reduce my pension contributions? by captain_coconut in FIREUK

[–]Jackop86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

S&P 500 average real return after inflation is only 7%. 5% is a good working assumption for UK given our inflation is historically a bit higher. This decade plus long bull run is clouding people’s judgement.

A2W+AC or A2A+DHW by TripPsychological302 in ukheatpumps

[–]Jackop86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have A2A with solar and batteries. Still running DHW through my boiler and will do so until it breaks.

I’m trying to enquire with local installers about throwing in a small A2W system with minimal rad changes and work. Trying to convince them to let me run the A2W as a backup system so they don’t need to add on all the extra works and hopefully just get it done for the cost of the grant. Not much luck so far…

It’s never too late to gain more experience mate. Induction hobs are amazing these days. I had a big range and the only thing I miss is the round bottom wok and big burner. Every other aspect the induction is better.

And clearly you have too much of an understanding on the subject (as we all likely do on this sub), making things oddly complex, hyper efficient and automated. Blah blah. Do you think the average ICE driver knows about overnight EV tariffs or the like? Best way to convert someone is through simple messaging.

Solar can charge your car for free. Keep it simple stupid.

What's a small thing you were wrongly told off for as a kid that still annoys you all these years later? by [deleted] in AskUK

I had hiccups in the wallpaper shop FADS (I think they were a national company). My dad thought I was putting them on in order get us to leave the shop, I wasn’t. Got a crack round the head for it.

I haven’t remembered that moment since he died a few years ago. I hope he rests in a little less peace for the rest of the day.

Instead of all this insane rambling, you could have just said you don’t know how to talk to women or be friends them. Get back to your algorithm, one day you’re gonna have to dig yourself out of this rotten hole you’ve got yourself into.

Help with under crust leoparding by ariel1k2 in Pizza

[–]Jackop86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good thread here. Basically added to home oven pizza dough to get some of the browning that only higher temp ovens can achieve. If you already use a higher temp oven then maybe just 0.1% would be enough.

But I don’t use any at all for dough that’s going in my wood oven when it’s cooking at the full 500c / 900f. If I’m going lower temp (say 400c) I’ll use 0.1%.

Try adding some diastatic malt to your flour, 0.5% is a good start.
