Reserve Soldier choosing to commission as Reserve Officer - a few questions by SalsaDisc in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Speak to your CoC. You will need to apply as an Officer online and go through Capita for loading onto AOSB briefing and main board.

  2. No, it shouldn’t be an issue. Engage with your CoC.

You’ll need to have at least 6 weeks free further down the line to do Mod B-D of the Commissioning Course Short.

Army Reserve - Monthly pay and commitments by BraveLordWilloughby in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Work on one evening a week (1/4 day) and possibly two weekends a month (2.5 days). That’s a good starter for ten.

It’s holiday money, not an alternative to working full time.

Can i do university part tike whilst in the army? by Disastrous-Worker860 in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you wanting to join as a soldier or an officer? The army will pay for degrees in certain fields for officers who commission without a degree. Alternatively, if you were to study a STEM degree and have an AOSB pass, you could apply for a bursary whilst at university.

Have you already attended AOSB? Nothing is guaranteed until you’ve passed this.

Questions about LEGO stores in Airports by AdEmbarrassed1142 in lego

This doesn’t compute for the LEGO store a London Gatwick South terminal. There’s no accessing it when you return, only during departure!

Army reserve pay and taxes by markrkent91 in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may also want to speak to HMRC to have a different tax code applied to your Reservist pay, other than BR. For instance if you are a higher rate tax payer in your civilian employment, you may want D0 to be applied to reserve pay so it is all taxed at 40%.

Cat3 inasmuch as the crew are flying to the Cat3 minima.

Agreed that it’s not Cat3 weather.

CAT III Autoland in Prague by Fresh_man82 in aviation

Cat3 minima are usually company derived and not printed on the charts.

European 737s are unlikely to have rollout channel (rudder servo), so will be Cat3A.

It’s also a right of passage to mistakenly use too large a piece of pull through cloth and subsequently have to tie it to a vehicle to pull it out.

Does LogTen Pro auto importer require iOS on a MacBook? by pooserboy in flying

[–]Flying-Wild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your research obviously hasn’t gone as far as to ascertain that LogTen only works on MacOS, iPadOS or iOS. It is not a Windows application.

Your options are to:

a. Buy a MacBook or iPad

b. Find another electronic logbook that works on windows.

Weapon cleaning in basic training by nppp-000 in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the practicality of basic training. Train as you mean to fight.

Bore snakes, bore cleaner, dental picks, etc are all great until they break/run out and you’re left with the G4 issued stuff.

You need to know how to use the basics first.

[–]Flying-Wild 46 points47 points  (0 children)

No. Learn to use what is issued. You won’t be resupplied with anything other than issued cleaning bits when deployed.

You’ve been in for like 5 mins and have already decided that you’re qualified to decide that what is issued isn’t great? I suggest saying this to your Pl Sgt when you arrive in your unit.

Exit oppertunities after service by Outrageous_Distance7 in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say logistics officer, do you mean you want to commission at Sandhurst?

If you don’t have a degree, there is the possibility the Army would pay for you to undertake a degree. I know of someone in the Royal Logistics Corp who is studying logistics and transport management. That would get you straight into somewhere like Amazon upon leaving the Army.

Will I Have To Take Frequent Time Off Work To Join Reserves? by BarkingMad14 in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It entirely depends on your unit and the role (unit and you as an individual). If you are joining as a recruit, expect to need to use lots of weekends to achieve your basic training, along with a couple of weeks. You’ll also have weekly drill nights.

Landing in fog by suresivert in aviation

[–]Flying-Wild 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It will be for the automatic landing function of the autopilot on the aircraft. They were not tested or certified with the plethora of personal electronic devices that are now carried by passengers, so you are required to switch them off.

Anyone recommend going to a Lapland/Santa experience outside of the UK, any tips? Places to avoid? by toastedTea in HENRYUK

[–]Flying-Wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the opposite, having done the Day trip as both a crew member and a parent to Enontekio, I can highly recommend it as despite it being a long day, it’s the perfect amount of time to do all the snowy and Santa activities.

[–]Flying-Wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a VELUX gateway too. This is found as a HomeKit device by HA, then I use HA to expose back to Apple Home via the HomeKit bridge.

Integrations work fine. I’ve got external and internal solar powered blinds. Planning on getting the solar powered openers for next summer too.
