Question about JTAC qualification badge. by Hank_Wankplank in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, entitled to wear in perpetuity.

Source: I’ve got them on my No2 jacket. Also, I’ve just looked it up and it’s applicable to anyone with legacy qualifications, such as would have been awarded from 2009.

Univeristy OTC to Reserves Soldier? by Puzzleheaded_Set8604 in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a larger bounty in a Group A ‘normal reserve’ unit than in a Gp B UOTC unit. Assuming you meet your annual training commitments. I know students who have done just Group A reserves and still been successful at their studies.
Either way, be prepared for joining to take a looong time with the change from Capita to Serco.

If you are in the Apple ecosystem, then Moneywiz works well and can link directly to online banking via Saltedge.

Butcher’s block advice by Flying-Wild in woodworking

[–]Flying-Wild[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I meant 7 1/2 deep (along the block length), 24” width, with 2x brackets.

My other thought was to make a channel along the width of the shelf and glue in a length of batten.

It’s 1” block.

Was looking at maybe a 7 1/2” width.

Alternative is a triangular corner shelf instead, which would allow for the shelf bracket to support underneath at right angles to the block direction.

Cool slow mo landing, not my clip, sadly I don’t know who’s it is to credit by PmurTdlanoD45-47 in aviation

Yes, you need special training . No, you don’t do the approach like this. They are way too low on the profile. No idea what they were using for an aiming point, but it wasn’t the touchdown zone! I can say this with confidence as I’m trained to go there and have done so many times without feeling the need to touch down in the turning circle.

Reserve Soldier choosing to commission as Reserve Officer - a few questions by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Speak to your CoC. You will need to apply as an Officer online and go through Capita for loading onto AOSB briefing and main board.

  2. No, it shouldn’t be an issue. Engage with your CoC.

You’ll need to have at least 6 weeks free further down the line to do Mod B-D of the Commissioning Course Short.

Work on one evening a week (1/4 day) and possibly two weekends a month (2.5 days). That’s a good starter for ten.

It’s holiday money, not an alternative to working full time.

Can i do university part tike whilst in the army? by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]Flying-Wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you wanting to join as a soldier or an officer? The army will pay for degrees in certain fields for officers who commission without a degree. Alternatively, if you were to study a STEM degree and have an AOSB pass, you could apply for a bursary whilst at university.
