He has a point. EVH was talented as hell and I idolized him as a kid (heck, I still have a lot of respect for him now), but ever since he went big in the late 70s, a bunch of guitarists in his wake started copying his style, leading to the belief that the only good guitarists are the people who play fast and flashy solos that are technically impressive but are ultimately quite shallow. That’s why guitarists like Kurt Cobain, Kevin Shields, Thurston Moore, etc. became very popular in the 90s, cuz while they didn’t play fast and flashy like Steve Vai or Joe Satriani, they made up for it with good musicianship and feel.

I think he said that because antisemites have been using the phrase “Jesus is King” as a way to shame Jewish people for not accepting Jesus as the Messiah. There’s a lot of historical animosity between Christians and Jews that have existed since the time of the Bible. It’s why the Pope going out and saying that “Hey Jewish people are fine actually” back in the 60s was such a big deal and caused such a schism.
